Psalms 83

A song. A Psalm of Asaph. O God, keep not thou silence: Hold not thy peace, and be not still, O God. | A Song. A Psalm. Of Asaph.O God, do not keep quiet: let your lips be open and take no rest, O God. |
For, lo, thine enemies make a tumult; And they that hate thee have lifted up the head. | For see! those who make war on you are out of control; your haters are lifting up their heads. |
Thy take crafty counsel against thy people, And consult together against thy hidden ones. | They have made wise designs against your people, talking together against those whom you keep in a secret place. |
They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; That the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance. | They have said, Come, let us put an end to them as a nation; so that the name of Israel may go out of man's memory. |
For they have consulted together with one consent; Against thee do they make a covenant: | For they have all come to an agreement; they are all joined together against you: |
The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites; Moab, and the Hagarenes; | The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites; Moab and the Hagarites; |
Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre: | Gebal and Ammon and Amalek; the Philistines and the people of Tyre; |
Assyria also is joined with them; They have helped the children of Lot. Selah | Assur is joined with them; they have become the support of the children of Lot. (Selah.) |
Do thou unto them as unto Midian, As to Sisera, as to Jabin, at the river Kishon; | Do to them what you did to the Midianites; what you did to Sisera and Jabin, at the stream of Kishon: |
Who perished at Endor, Who became as dung for the earth. | Who came to destruction at En-dor; their bodies became dust and waste. |
Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb; Yea, all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna; | Make their chiefs like Oreb and Zeeb; and all their rulers like Zebah and Zalmunna: |
Who said, Let us take to ourselves in possession The habitations of God. | Who have said, Let us take for our heritage the resting-place of God. |
O my God, make them like the whirling dust; As stubble before the wind. | O my God, make them like the rolling dust; like dry stems before the wind. |
As the fire that burneth the forest, And as the flame that setteth the mountains on fire, | As fire burning a wood, and as a flame causing fire on the mountains, |
So pursue them with thy tempest, And terrify them with thy storm. | So go after them with your strong wind, and let them be full of fear because of your storm. |
Fill their faces with confusion, That they may seek thy name, O Jehovah. | Let their faces be full of shame; so that they may give honour to your name, O Lord. |
Let them be put to shame and dismayed for ever; Yea, let them be confounded and perish; | Let them be overcome and troubled for ever; let them be put to shame and come to destruction; |
That they may know that thou alone, whose name is Jehovah, Art the Most High over all the earth. | So that men may see that you only, whose name is Yahweh, are Most High over all the earth. |
