| And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these words, he said unto his disciples, | Und es begab sich, da Jesus alle diese Reden vollendet hatte, sprach er zu seinen Jüngern: |
| Ye know that after two days the passover cometh, and the Son of man is delivered up to be crucified. | Ihr wisset, daß nach zwei Tagen Ostern wird; und des Menschen Sohn wird überantwortet werden, daß er gekreuzigt werde. |
| Then were gathered together the chief priests, and the elders of the people, unto the court of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas; | Da versammelten sich die Hohenpriester und Schriftgelehrten und die Ältesten im Volk in den Palast des Hohenpriesters, der da hieß Kaiphas, |
| and they took counsel together that they might take Jesus by subtlety, and kill him. | und hielten Rat, wie sie Jesus mit List griffen und töteten. |
| But they said, Not during the feast, lest a tumult arise among people. | Sie sprachen aber: Ja nicht auf das Fest, auf daß nicht ein Aufruhr werde im Volk! |
| Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, | Da nun Jesus war zu Bethanien im Hause Simons, des Aussätzigen, |
| there came unto him a woman having an alabaster cruse of exceeding precious ointment, and she poured it upon his head, as he sat at meat. | da trat zu ihm ein Weib, das hatte ein Glas mit köstlichem Wasser und goß es auf sein Haupt, da er zu Tische saß. |
| But when the disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste? | Da das seine Jünger sahen, wurden sie unwillig und sprachen: Wozu diese Vergeudung? |
| For this [ointment] might have been sold for much, and given to the poor. | Dieses Wasser hätte mögen teuer verkauft und den Armen gegeben werden. |
| But Jesus perceiving it said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me. | Da das Jesus merkte, sprach er zu ihnen: Was bekümmert ihr das Weib? Sie hat ein gutes Werk an mir getan. |
| For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always. | Ihr habt allezeit Arme bei euch; mich aber habt ihr nicht allezeit. |
| For in that she poured this ointment upon my body, she did it to prepare me for burial. | Daß sie dies Wasser hat auf meinen Leib gegossen, hat sie getan, daß sie mich zum Grabe bereite. |
| Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, that also which this woman hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her. | Wahrlich ich sage euch: Wo dies Evangelium gepredigt wird in der ganzen Welt, da wird man auch sagen zu ihrem Gedächtnis, was sie getan hat. |
| Then one of the twelve, who was called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests, | Da ging hin der Zwölf einer, mit Namen Judas Ischariot, zu den Hohenpriestern |
| and said, What are ye willing to give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they weighed unto him thirty pieces of silver. | und sprach: Was wollt ihr mir geben? Ich will ihn euch verraten. Und sie boten ihm dreißig Silberlinge. |
| And from that time he sought opportunity to deliver him [unto them.] | Und von dem an suchte er Gelegenheit, daß er ihn verriete. |
| Now on the first [day] of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying, Where wilt thou that we make ready for thee to eat the passover? | Aber am ersten Tag der süßen Brote traten die Jünger zu Jesus und sprachen zu ihm: Wo willst du, daß wir dir bereiten das Osterlamm zu essen? |
| And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Teacher saith, My time is at hand; I keep the passover at thy house with my disciples. | Er sprach: Gehet hin in die Stadt zu einem und sprecht der Meister läßt dir sagen: Meine Zeit ist nahe; ich will bei dir Ostern halten mit meinen Jüngern. |
| And the disciples did as Jesus appointed them; and they made ready the passover. | Und die Jünger taten wie ihnen Jesus befohlen hatte, und bereiteten das Osterlamm. |
| Now when even was come, he was sitting at meat with the twelve disciples; | Und am Abend setzte er sich zu Tische mit den Zwölfen. |
| and as they were eating, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me. | Und da sie aßen, sprach er: Wahrlich ich sage euch: Einer unter euch wird mich verraten. |
| And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began to say unto him every one, Is it I, Lord? | Und sie wurden sehr betrübt und hoben an, ein jeglicher unter ihnen, und sagten zu ihm: HERR, bin ich's? |
| And he answered and said, He that dipped his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me. | Er antwortete und sprach: Der mit der Hand mit mir in die Schüssel tauchte, der wird mich verraten. |
| The Son of man goeth, even as it is written of him: but woe unto that man through whom the Son of man is betrayed! good were it for that man if he had not been born. | Des Menschen Sohn geht zwar dahin, wie von ihm geschrieben steht; doch weh dem Menschen, durch welchen des Menschen Sohn verraten wird! Es wäre ihm besser, daß er nie geboren wäre. |
| And Judas, who betrayed him, answered and said, Is it I, Rabbi? He saith unto him, Thou hast said. | Da antwortete Judas, der ihn verriet, und sprach: Bin ich's Rabbi? Er sprach zu ihm: Du sagst es. |
| And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and brake it; and he gave to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. | Da sie aber aßen, nahm Jesus das Brot, dankte und brach's und gab's den Jüngern und sprach: Nehmet, esset; das ist mein Leib. |
| And he took a cup, and gave thanks, and gave to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; | Und er nahm den Kelch und dankte, gab ihnen den und sprach: Trinket alle daraus; |
| for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many unto remission of sins. | das ist mein Blut des neuen Testaments, welches vergossen wird für viele zur Vergebung der Sünden. |
| But I say unto you, I shall not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom. | Ich sage euch: Ich werde von nun an nicht mehr von diesen Gewächs des Weinstocks trinken bis an den Tag, da ich's neu trinken werde mit euch in meines Vaters Reich. |
| And when they had sung a hymn, they went out unto the mount of Olives. | Und da sie den Lobgesang gesprochen hatte, gingen sie hinaus an den Ölberg. |
| Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended in me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad. | Da sprach Jesus zu ihnen: In dieser Nacht werdet ihr euch alle ärgern an mir. Denn es steht geschrieben: "Ich werde den Hirten schlagen, und die Schafe der Herde werden sich zerstreuen." |
| But after I am raised up, I will go before you into Galilee. | Wenn ich aber auferstehe, will ich vor euch hingehen nach Galiläa. |
| But Peter answered and said unto him, If all shall be offended in thee, I will never be offended. | Petrus aber antwortete und sprach zu ihm: Wenn sich auch alle an dir ärgerten, so will ich doch mich nimmermehr ärgern. |
| Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, that this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. | Jesus sprach zu ihm: Wahrlich ich sage dir: In dieser Nacht, ehe der Hahn kräht, wirst du mich dreimal verleugnen. |
| Peter saith unto him, Even if I must die with thee, [yet] will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples. | Petrus sprach zu ihm: Und wenn ich mit dir sterben müßte, so will ich dich nicht verleugnen. Desgleichen sagten auch alle Jünger. |
| Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto his disciples, Sit ye here, while I go yonder and pray. | Da kam Jesus mit ihnen zu einem Hofe, der hieß Gethsemane, und sprach zu seinen Jüngern: Setzet euch hier, bis daß ich dorthin gehe und bete. |
| And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and sore troubled. | Und nahm zu sich Petrus und die zwei Söhne des Zebedäus und fing an zu trauern und zu zagen. |
| Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: abide ye here, and watch with me. | Da sprach Jesus zu ihnen: Meine Seele ist betrübt bis an den Tod; bleibet hier und wachet mit mir! |
| And he went forward a little, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass away from me: nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt. | Und ging hin ein wenig, fiel nieder auf sein Angesicht und betete und sprach: Mein Vater, ist's möglich, so gehe dieser Kelch von mir; doch nicht, wie ich will, sondern wie du willst! |
| And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour? | Und er kam zu seinen Jüngern und fand sie schlafend und sprach zu Petrus: Könnet ihr denn nicht eine Stunde mit mir wachen? |
| Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. | Wachet und betet, daß ihr nicht in Anfechtung fallet! Der Geist ist willig; aber das Fleisch ist schwach. |
| Again a second time he went away, and prayed, saying, My Father, if this cannot pass away, except I drink it, thy will be done. | Zum andernmal ging er wieder hin, betete und sprach: Mein Vater, ist's nicht möglich, daß dieser Kelch von mir gehe, ich trinke ihn denn, so geschehe dein Wille! |
| And he came again and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy. | Und er kam und fand sie abermals schlafend, und ihre Augen waren voll Schlafs. |
| And he left them again, and went away, and prayed a third time, saying again the same words. | Und er ließ sie und ging abermals hin und betete zum drittenmal und redete dieselben Worte. |
| Then cometh he to the disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. | Da kam er zu seinen Jüngern und sprach zu ihnen: Ach wollt ihr nur schlafen und ruhen? Siehe, die Stunde ist hier, daß des Menschen Sohn in der Sünder Hände überantwortet wird. |
| Arise, let us be going: behold, he is at hand that betrayeth me. | Stehet auf, laßt uns gehen! Siehe, er ist da, der mich verrät! |
| And while he yet spake, lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priest and elders of the people. | Und als er noch redete, siehe, da kam Judas, der Zwölf einer, und mit ihm eine große Schar, mit Schwertern und mit Stangen, von den Hohenpriestern und Ältesten des Volks. |
| Now he that betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that is he: take him. | Und der Verräter hatte ihnen ein Zeichen gegeben und gesagt: Welchen ich küssen werde, der ist's; den greifet. |
| And straightway he came to Jesus, and said, Hail, Rabbi; and kissed him. | Und alsbald trat er zu Jesus und sprach: Gegrüßet seist du, Rabbi! und küßte ihn. |
| And Jesus said unto him, Friend, [do] that for which thou art come. Then they came and laid hands on Jesus, and took him. | Jesus aber sprach zu ihm: Mein Freund, warum bist du gekommen? Da traten sie hinzu und legten die Hände an Jesus und griffen ihn. |
| And behold, one of them that were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and smote the servant of the high priest, and struck off his ear. | Und siehe, einer aus denen, die mit Jesus waren, reckte die Hand aus und zog sein Schwert aus und schlug des Hohenpriesters Knecht und hieb ihm ein Ohr ab. |
| Then saith Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into its place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword. | Da sprach Jesus zu ihm; Stecke dein Schwert an seinen Ort! denn wer das Schwert nimmt, der soll durchs Schwert umkommen. |
| Or thinkest thou that I cannot beseech my Father, and he shall even now send me more than twelve legions of angels? | Oder meinst du, daß ich nicht könnte meinen Vater bitten, daß er mir zuschickte mehr denn zwölf Legionen Engel? |
| How then should the scriptures be fulfilled that thus it must be? | Wie würde aber die Schrift erfüllet? Es muß also gehen. |
| In that hour said Jesus to the multitudes, Are ye come out as against a robber with swords and staves to seize me? I sat daily in the temple teaching, and ye took me not. | Zu der Stunde sprach Jesus zu den Scharen: Ihr seid ausgegangen wie zu einem Mörder, mit Schwertern und Stangen, mich zu fangen. Bin ich doch täglich gesessen bei euch und habe gelehrt im Tempel, und ihr habt mich nicht gegriffen. |
| But all this is come to pass, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples left him, and fled. | Aber das ist alles geschehen, daß erfüllet würden die Schriften der Propheten. Da verließen ihn die Jünger und flohen. |
| And they that had taken Jesus led him away to [the house of] Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were gathered together. | Die aber Jesus gegriffen hatten, führten ihn zu dem Hohenpriester Kaiphas, dahin die Schriftgelehrten und Ältesten sich versammelt hatten. |
| But Peter followed him afar off, unto the court of the high priest, and entered in, and sat with the officers, to see the end. | Petrus aber folgte ihm nach von ferne bis in den Palast des Hohenpriesters und ging hinein und setzte sich zu den Knechten, auf daß er sähe, wo es hinaus wollte. |
| Now the chief priests and the whole council sought false witness against Jesus, that they might put him to death; | Die Hohenpriester aber und die Ältesten und der ganze Rat suchten falsch Zeugnis gegen Jesus, auf daß sie ihn töteten, |
| and they found it not, though many false witnesses came. But afterward came two, | und fanden keins. Und wiewohl viel falsche Zeugen herzutraten, fanden sie doch keins. Zuletzt traten herzu zwei falsche Zeugen |
| and said, This man said, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days. | und sprachen: Er hat gesagt: Ich kann den Tempel Gottes abbrechen und in drei Tagen ihn bauen. |
| And the high priest stood up, and said unto him, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee? | Und der Hohepriester stand auf und sprach zu ihm: Antwortest du nichts zu dem, was diese wider dich zeugen? |
| But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou art the Christ, the Son of God. | Aber Jesus schwieg still. Und der Hohepriester antwortete und sprach zu ihm: Ich beschwöre dich bei dem lebendigen Gott, daß du uns sagest, ob du seist Christus, der Sohn Gottes. |
| Jesus said unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Henceforth ye shall see the Son of man sitting at the right hand of Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven. | Jesus sprach zu ihm: Du sagst es. Doch ich sage euch: Von nun an wird's geschehen, daß ihr werdet sehen des Menschen Sohn sitzen zur Rechten der Kraft und kommen in den Wolken des Himmels. |
| Then the high priest rent his garments, saying, He hath spoken blasphemy: what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard the blasphemy: | Da zerriß der Hohepriester seine Kleider und sprach: Er hat Gott gelästert! Was bedürfen wir weiteres Zeugnis? Siehe, jetzt habt ihr seine Gotteslästerung gehört. |
| what think ye? They answered and said, He is worthy of death. | Was dünkt euch? Sie antworteten und sprachen: Er ist des Todes schuldig! |
| Then did they spit in his face and buffet him: and some smote him with the palms of their hands, | Da spieen sie aus in sein Angesicht und schlugen ihn mit Fäusten. Etliche aber schlugen ihn ins Angesicht |
| saying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ: who is he that struck thee? | und sprachen: Weissage uns, Christe, wer ist's, der dich schlug? |
| Now Peter was sitting without in the court: and a maid came unto him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus the Galilaean. | Petrus aber saß draußen im Hof; und es trat zu ihm eine Magd und sprach: Und du warst auch mit dem Jesus aus Galiläa. |
| But he denied before them all, saying, I know not what thou sayest. | Er leugnete aber vor ihnen allen und sprach: Ich weiß nicht, was du sagst. |
| And when he was gone out into the porch, another [maid] saw him, and saith unto them that were there, This man also was with Jesus of Nazareth. | Als er aber zur Tür hinausging, sah ihn eine andere und sprach zu denen, die da waren: Dieser war auch mit dem Jesus von Nazareth. |
| And again he denied with an oath, I know not the man. | Und er leugnete abermals und schwur dazu: Ich kenne den Menschen nicht. |
| And after a little while they that stood by came and said to Peter, Of a truth thou also art [one] of them; for thy speech maketh thee known. | Und über eine kleine Weile traten die hinzu, die dastanden, und sprachen zu Petrus: Wahrlich du bist auch einer von denen; denn deine Sprache verrät dich. |
| Then began he to curse and to swear, I know not the man. And straightway the cock crew. | Da hob er an sich zu verfluchen und zu schwören: Ich kenne diesen Menschen nicht. Uns alsbald krähte der Hahn. |
| And Peter remembered the word which Jesus had said, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly. | Da dachte Petrus an die Worte Jesu, da er zu ihm sagte: "Ehe der Hahn krähen wird, wirst du mich dreimal verleugnen", und ging hinaus und weinte bitterlich. |
