| A soft answer turneth away wrath; But a grievous word stirreth up anger. | La risposta dolce calma il furore, ma la parola dura eccita l’ira. |
| The tongue of the wise uttereth knowledge aright; But the mouth of fools poureth out folly. | La lingua dei savi è ricca di scienza, ma la bocca degli stolti sgorga follia. |
| The eyes of Jehovah are in every place, Keeping watch upon the evil and the good. | Gli occhi dell’Eterno sono in ogni luogo, osservando i cattivi ed i buoni. |
| A gentle tongue is a tree of life; But perverseness therein is a breaking of the spirit. | La lingua che calma, è un albero di vita, ma la lingua perversa strazia lo spirito. |
| A fool despiseth his father's correction; But he that regardeth reproof getteth prudence. | L’insensato disdegna l’istruzione di suo padre, ma chi tien conto della riprensione diviene accorto. |
| In the house of the righteous is much treasure; But in the revenues of the wicked is trouble. | Nella casa del giusto v’è grande abbondanza, ma nell’entrate dell’empio c’è turbolenza. |
| The lips of the wise disperse knowledge; But the heart of the foolish [doeth] not so. | Le labbra dei savi spargono scienza, ma non così il cuore degli stolti. |
| The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to Jehovah; But the prayer of the upright is his delight. | Il sacrifizio degli empi è in abominio all’Eterno, ma la preghiera degli uomini retti gli è grata. |
| The way of the wicked is an abomination to Jehovah; But he loveth him that followeth after righteousness. | La via dell’empio è in abominio all’Eterno, ma egli ama chi segue la giustizia. |
| There is grievous correction for him that forsaketh the way; [And] he that hateth reproof shall die. | Una dura correzione aspetta chi lascia la diritta via; chi odia la riprensione morrà. |
| Sheol and Abaddon are before Jehovah: How much more then the hearts of the children of men! | Il soggiorno de’ morti e l’abisso stanno dinanzi all’Eterno; quanto più i cuori de’ figliuoli degli uomini! |
| A scoffer loveth not to be reproved; He will not go unto the wise. | Il beffardo non ama che altri lo riprenda; egli non va dai savi. |
| A glad heart maketh a cheerful countenance; But by sorrow of heart the spirit is broken. | Il cuore allegro rende ilare il volto, ma quando il cuore è triste, lo spirito è abbattuto. |
| The heart of him that hath understanding seeketh knowledge; But the mouth of fools feedeth on folly. | Il cuor dell’uomo intelligente cerca la scienza, ma la bocca degli stolti si pasce di follia. |
| All the days of the afflicted are evil; But he that is of a cheerful heart [hath] a continual feast. | Tutt’i giorni dell’afflitto sono cattivi, ma il cuor contento è un convito perenne. |
| Better is little, with the fear of Jehovah, Than great treasure and trouble therewith. | Meglio poco col timor dell’Eterno, che gran tesoro con turbolenza. |
| Better is a dinner of herbs, where love is, Than a stalled ox and hatred therewith. | Meglio un piatto d’erbe, dov’è l’amore, che un bove ingrassato, dov’è l’odio. |
| A wrathful man stirreth up contention; But he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife. | L’uomo iracondo fa nascere contese, ma chi è lento all’ira acqueta le liti. |
| The way of the sluggard is as a hedge of thorns; But the path of the upright is made a highway. | La via del pigro è come una siepe di spine, ma il sentiero degli uomini retti è piano. |
| A wise son maketh a glad father; But a foolish man despiseth his mother. | Il figliuol savio rallegra il padre, ma l’uomo stolto disprezza sua madre. |
| Folly is joy to him that is void of wisdom; But a man of understanding maketh straight his going. | La follia è una gioia per chi è privo di senno, ma l’uomo prudente cammina retto per la sua via. |
| Where there is no counsel, purposes are disappointed; But in the multitude of counsellors they are established. | I disegni falliscono, dove mancano i consigli; ma riescono, dove son molti i consiglieri. |
| A man hath joy in the answer of his mouth; And a word in due season, how good is it! | Uno prova allegrezza quando risponde bene; e com’è buona una parola detta a tempo! |
| To the wise the way of life [goeth] upward, That he may depart from Sheol beneath. | Per l’uomo sagace la via della vita mena in alto e gli fa evitare il soggiorno de’ morti, in basso. |
| Jehovah will root up the house of the proud; But he will establish the border of the widow. | L’Eterno spianta la casa dei superbi, ma rende stabili i confini della vedova. |
| Evil devices are an abomination to Jehovah; But pleasant words [are] pure. | I pensieri malvagi sono in abominio all’Eterno, ma le parole benevole son pure agli occhi suoi. |
| He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; But he that hateth bribes shall live. | Chi è avido di lucro conturba la sua casa, ma chi odia i regali vivrà. |
| The heart of the righteous studieth to answer; But the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things. | Il cuor del giusto medita la sua risposta, ma la bocca degli empi sgorga cose malvage. |
| Jehovah is far from the wicked; But he heareth the prayer of the righteous. | L’Eterno è lungi dagli empi, ma ascolta la preghiera dei giusti. |
| The light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart; [And] good tidings make the bones fat. | Uno sguardo lucente rallegra il cuore; una buona notizia impingua l’ossa. |
| The ear that hearkeneth to the reproof of life Shall abide among the wise. | L’orecchio attento alla riprensione che mena a vita, dimorerà fra i savi. |
| He that refuseth correction despiseth his own soul; But he that hearkeneth to reproof getteth understanding. | Chi rigetta l’istruzione disprezza l’anima sua, ma chi dà retta alla riprensione acquista senno. |
| The fear of Jehovah is the instruction of wisdom; And before honor [goeth] humility. | Il timor dell’Eterno è scuola di sapienza; e l’umiltà precede la gloria. |
