| Now Pashhur, the son of Immer the priest, who was chief officer in the house of Jehovah, heard Jeremiah prophesying these things. | Pha-su-rơ, con trai của thầy tế lễ Y-mê, làm quản đốc nhà Đức Giê-hô-va, có nghe Giê-rê-mi nói tiên tri những việc nầy. |
| Then Pashhur smote Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that were in the upper gate of Benjamin, which was in the house of Jehovah. | Pha-su-rơ bèn đánh đòn đấng tiên tri Giê-rê-mi, cùm lại ở cửa trên Bên-gia-min, thuộc về nhà Đức Giê-hô-va. |
| And it came to pass on the morrow, that Pashhur brought forth Jeremiah out of the stocks. Then said Jeremiah unto him, Jehovah hath not called thy name Pashhur, but Magor-missabib. | Bữa sau, Pha-su-rơ thả Giê-rê-mi ra khỏi cùm. Giê-rê-mi nói với người rằng: Đức Giê-hô-va không xưng ngươi là Pha-su-rơ đâu, mà xưng là Ma-go-Mít-sa-bíp. |
| For thus saith Jehovah, Behold, I will make thee a terror to thyself, and to all thy friends; and they shall fall by the sword of their enemies, and thine eyes shall behold it; and I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall carry them captive to Babylon, and shall slay them with the sword. | Vì Đức Giê-hô-va phán như vầy: Nầy, ta sẽ phó ngươi làm sự kinh hãi cho chính mình và hết thảy bạn hữu mình nữa; chúng nó sẽ chết bởi gươm của kẻ thù mình, chính mắt ngươi sẽ ngó thấy. Ta cũng sẽ phó cả dân sự Giu-đa trong tay vua Ba-by-lôn, người sẽ đem chúng nó sang Ba-by-lôn làm phu tù, và lấy gươm giết đi. |
| Moreover I will give all the riches of this city, and all the gains thereof, and all the precious things thereof, yea, all the treasures of the kings of Judah will I give into the hand of their enemies; and they shall make them a prey, and take them, and carry them to Babylon. | Ta lại sẽ phó mọi của cải thành nầy, cùng lợi đã làm ra, vật quí hiện có; thật, ta sẽ phó đồ châu báu của các vua Giu-đa trong tay kẻ thù nghịch, chúng nó sẽ lấy làm của cướp mà đem về Ba-by-lôn. |
| And thou, Pashhur, and all that dwell in thy house shall go into captivity; and thou shalt come to Babylon, and there thou shalt die, and there shalt thou be buried, thou, and all thy friends, to whom thou hast prophesied falsely. | Hỡi Pha-su-rơ, chính mình ngươi cùng những kẻ ở trong nhà ngươi, thảy đều đi làm phu tù. Ngươi sẽ đến Ba-by-lôn, chết và chôn tại đó, luôn cả bạn hữu ngươi nữa, tức những kẻ mà ngươi đã nói tiên tri giả dối cho. |
| O Jehovah, thou hast persuaded me, and I was persuaded; thou art stronger than I, and hast prevailed: I am become a laughing-stock all the day, every one mocketh me. | Hỡi Đức Giê-hô-va, Ngài đã khuyên dỗ tôi, và tôi đã chịu khuyên dỗ; Ngài mạnh hơn tôi và đã được thắng. Trọn ngày tôi cứ làm trò cười, và ai cũng nhạo báng tôi. |
| For as often as I speak, I cry out; I cry, Violence and destruction! because the word of Jehovah is made a reproach unto me, and a derision, all the day. | Mỗi lần tôi nói thì cất tiếng kỳ lạ; tôi kêu rằng: Bạo ngược và hủy diệt! Vì lời của Đức Giê-hô-va làm cho tôi cả ngày bị sỉ nhục chê cười. |
| And if I say, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name, then there is in my heart as it were a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I am weary with forbearing, and I cannot [contain]. | Nếu tôi nói: Tôi sẽ chẳng nói đến Ngài nữa; tôi sẽ chẳng nhơn danh Ngài mà nói nữa, thì trong lòng tôi như lửa đốt cháy, bọc kín trong xương tôi, và tôi mệt mỏi vì nín lặng, không chịu được nữa. |
| For I have heard the defaming of many, terror on every side. Denounce, and we will denounce him, [say] all my familiar friends, they that watch for my fall; peradventure he will be persuaded, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him. | Tôi có nghe những lời chế nhạo của nhiều người, kinh hãi mọi bề. Những bạn hữu thiết nghĩa của tôi trông cho tôi vấp ngã, đều nói rằng: Hãy cáo nó, và chúng ta cũng sẽ cáo nó; có lẽ nó sẽ chịu khuyên dỗ, thì chúng ta sẽ thắng nó, và trả thù nó. |
| But Jehovah is with me as a mighty one [and] a terrible: therefore my persecutors shall stumble, and they shall not prevail; they shall be utterly put to shame, because they have not dealt wisely, even with an everlasting dishonor which shall never be forgotten. | Nhưng Đức Giê-hô-va ở với tôi như một tay anh hùng đáng khiếp; nên những kẻ bắt bớ tôi sẽ vấp ngã, sẽ chẳng thắng hơn. Vì họ ăn ở chẳng khôn, thì sẽ chịu sỉ nhục rất lớn, tức là sự hổ nhuốc đời đời chẳng hề quên được. |
| But, O Jehovah of hosts, that triest the righteous, that seest the heart and the mind, let me see thy vengeance on them; for unto thee have I revealed my cause. | Nhưng, hỡi Đức Giê-hô-va vạn quân! Ngài là Đấng thử người công bình, xem thấu trong lòng trong trí, xin cho tôi thấy Ngài báo thù họ, vì tôi đã đem việc mình tỏ cùng Ngài. |
| Sing unto Jehovah, praise ye Jehovah; for he hath delivered the soul of the needy from the hand of evil-doers. | Hãy hát cho Đức Giê-hô-va, hãy ngợi khen Đức Giê-hô-va! Vì Ngài đã giải cứu linh hồn kẻ nghèo nàn ra khỏi tay những kẻ ác. |
| Cursed be the day wherein I was born: let not the day wherein my mother bare me be blessed. | Đáng rủa cho cái ngày mà tôi đã sinh! Nguyền cho cái ngày mà mẹ tôi đẻ tôi ra đừng được phước! |
| Cursed be the man who brought tidings to my father, saying, A man-child is born unto thee; making him very glad. | Đáng rủa thay là người đem tin cho cha tôi rằng: Ngươi đã sanh con trai! làm cho cha tôi đầy sự vui mừng. |
| And let that man be as the cities which Jehovah overthrew, and repented not: and let him hear a cry in the morning, and shouting at noontime; | Nguyền cho người đó cũng như các thành mà Đức Giê-hô-va đã phá đổ chẳng phàn nàn! Nguyền cho nó vừa lúc ban mai nghe kêu la, đến trưa nghe kêu lớn tiếng; |
| because he slew me not from the womb; and so my mother would have been my grave, and her womb always great. | vì đã chẳng giết tôi từ trong lòng mẹ; thì mẹ tôi đã làm mồ mả tôi, và thai lớn luôn luôn. |
| Wherefore came I forth out of the womb to see labor and sorrow, that my days should be consumed with shame? | Sao tôi đã ra khỏi thai để chịu cực khổ lo buồn, cả đời mang sỉ nhục? |
