| Und es begab sich, da Jesus alle diese Reden vollendet hatte, sprach er zu seinen Jüngern: | And when Jesus had come to the end of all these words, he said to his disciples, |
| Ihr wisset, daß nach zwei Tagen Ostern wird; und des Menschen Sohn wird überantwortet werden, daß er gekreuzigt werde. | After two days is the Passover, and the Son of man will be given up to the death of the cross. |
| Da versammelten sich die Hohenpriester und Schriftgelehrten und die Ältesten im Volk in den Palast des Hohenpriesters, der da hieß Kaiphas, | Then the chief priests and the rulers of the people came together in the house of the high priest, who was named Caiaphas. |
| und hielten Rat, wie sie Jesus mit List griffen und töteten. | And they made designs together to take Jesus by some trick, and put him to death. |
| Sie sprachen aber: Ja nicht auf das Fest, auf daß nicht ein Aufruhr werde im Volk! | But they said, Not while the feast is going on, for fear of trouble among the people. |
| Da nun Jesus war zu Bethanien im Hause Simons, des Aussätzigen, | Now when Jesus was in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, |
| da trat zu ihm ein Weib, das hatte ein Glas mit köstlichem Wasser und goß es auf sein Haupt, da er zu Tische saß. | There came to him a woman having a bottle of perfume of great price, and she put the perfume on his head when he was seated at table. |
| Da das seine Jünger sahen, wurden sie unwillig und sprachen: Wozu diese Vergeudung? | But when the disciples saw it they were angry, saying, To what purpose is this waste? |
| Dieses Wasser hätte mögen teuer verkauft und den Armen gegeben werden. | For we might have got much money for this and given it to the poor. |
| Da das Jesus merkte, sprach er zu ihnen: Was bekümmert ihr das Weib? Sie hat ein gutes Werk an mir getan. | But Jesus, seeing it, said to them, Why are you troubling the woman? she has done a kind act to me. |
| Ihr habt allezeit Arme bei euch; mich aber habt ihr nicht allezeit. | For the poor you have ever with you, but me you have not for ever. |
| Daß sie dies Wasser hat auf meinen Leib gegossen, hat sie getan, daß sie mich zum Grabe bereite. | For in putting this perfume on my body, she did it to make me ready for my last resting-place. |
| Wahrlich ich sage euch: Wo dies Evangelium gepredigt wird in der ganzen Welt, da wird man auch sagen zu ihrem Gedächtnis, was sie getan hat. | Truly I say to you, Wherever this good news goes out in all the world, what this woman has done will be talked of in memory of her. |
| Da ging hin der Zwölf einer, mit Namen Judas Ischariot, zu den Hohenpriestern | Then one of the twelve, who was named Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests and said, |
| und sprach: Was wollt ihr mir geben? Ich will ihn euch verraten. Und sie boten ihm dreißig Silberlinge. | What will you give me, if I give him up to you? And the price was fixed at thirty bits of silver. |
| Und von dem an suchte er Gelegenheit, daß er ihn verriete. | And from that time he was watching for a chance to give him into their hands. |
| Aber am ersten Tag der süßen Brote traten die Jünger zu Jesus und sprachen zu ihm: Wo willst du, daß wir dir bereiten das Osterlamm zu essen? | Now on the first day of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying, Where are we to make ready for you to take the Passover meal? |
| Er sprach: Gehet hin in die Stadt zu einem und sprecht der Meister läßt dir sagen: Meine Zeit ist nahe; ich will bei dir Ostern halten mit meinen Jüngern. | And he said to them, Go into the town to such a man, and say to him, The Master says, My time is near: I will keep the Passover at your house with my disciples. |
| Und die Jünger taten wie ihnen Jesus befohlen hatte, und bereiteten das Osterlamm. | And the disciples did as Jesus had said to them; and they made ready the Passover. |
| Und am Abend setzte er sich zu Tische mit den Zwölfen. | Now when evening was come, he was seated at table with the twelve disciples; |
| Und da sie aßen, sprach er: Wahrlich ich sage euch: Einer unter euch wird mich verraten. | And while they were taking food, he said, Truly I say to you that one of you will be false to me. |
| Und sie wurden sehr betrübt und hoben an, ein jeglicher unter ihnen, und sagten zu ihm: HERR, bin ich's? | And they were very said, and said to him, one by one, Is it I, Lord? |
| Er antwortete und sprach: Der mit der Hand mit mir in die Schüssel tauchte, der wird mich verraten. | And he made answer and said, He who puts his hand into the plate with me, the same will be false to me. |
| Des Menschen Sohn geht zwar dahin, wie von ihm geschrieben steht; doch weh dem Menschen, durch welchen des Menschen Sohn verraten wird! Es wäre ihm besser, daß er nie geboren wäre. | The Son of man goes, even as the Writings say of him: but a curse is on that man through whom the Son of man is given up; it would have been well for that man if he had never come into the world. |
| Da antwortete Judas, der ihn verriet, und sprach: Bin ich's Rabbi? Er sprach zu ihm: Du sagst es. | And Judas, who was false to him, made answer and said, Is it I, Master? He says to him, Yes. |
| Da sie aber aßen, nahm Jesus das Brot, dankte und brach's und gab's den Jüngern und sprach: Nehmet, esset; das ist mein Leib. | And when they were taking food, Jesus took bread and, after blessing it, he gave the broken bread to the disciples and said, Take it; this is my body. |
| Und er nahm den Kelch und dankte, gab ihnen den und sprach: Trinket alle daraus; | And he took a cup and, having given praise, he gave it to them, saying, |
| das ist mein Blut des neuen Testaments, welches vergossen wird für viele zur Vergebung der Sünden. | Take of it, all of you, for this is my blood of the testament, which is given for men for the forgiveness of sins. |
| Ich sage euch: Ich werde von nun an nicht mehr von diesen Gewächs des Weinstocks trinken bis an den Tag, da ich's neu trinken werde mit euch in meines Vaters Reich. | But I say to you that from now I will not take of this fruit of the vine, till that day when I take it new with you in my Father's kingdom. |
| Und da sie den Lobgesang gesprochen hatte, gingen sie hinaus an den Ölberg. | And after a song of praise to God, they went out to the Mountain of Olives. |
| Da sprach Jesus zu ihnen: In dieser Nacht werdet ihr euch alle ärgern an mir. Denn es steht geschrieben: "Ich werde den Hirten schlagen, und die Schafe der Herde werden sich zerstreuen." | Then said Jesus to them, All of you will be turned away from me this night: for it is said in the Writings, I will put to death the keeper of the sheep, and the sheep of the flock will be put to flight. |
| Wenn ich aber auferstehe, will ich vor euch hingehen nach Galiläa. | But after I am come back from the dead, I will go before you into Galilee. |
| Petrus aber antwortete und sprach zu ihm: Wenn sich auch alle an dir ärgerten, so will ich doch mich nimmermehr ärgern. | But Peter made answer and said to him, Though all may be turned away from you, I will never be turned away. |
| Jesus sprach zu ihm: Wahrlich ich sage dir: In dieser Nacht, ehe der Hahn kräht, wirst du mich dreimal verleugnen. | Jesus said to him, Truly I say to you that this night, before the hour of the cock's cry, you will say three times that you have no knowledge of me. |
| Petrus sprach zu ihm: Und wenn ich mit dir sterben müßte, so will ich dich nicht verleugnen. Desgleichen sagten auch alle Jünger. | Peter says to him, Even if I am put to death with you, I will not be false to you. So said all the disciples. |
| Da kam Jesus mit ihnen zu einem Hofe, der hieß Gethsemane, und sprach zu seinen Jüngern: Setzet euch hier, bis daß ich dorthin gehe und bete. | Then comes Jesus with them to a place named Gethsemane, and says to his disciples, Be seated here, while I go over there for prayer. |
| Und nahm zu sich Petrus und die zwei Söhne des Zebedäus und fing an zu trauern und zu zagen. | And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and became sad and very troubled. |
| Da sprach Jesus zu ihnen: Meine Seele ist betrübt bis an den Tod; bleibet hier und wachet mit mir! | Then says he to them, My soul is very sad, even to death: keep watch with me here. |
| Und ging hin ein wenig, fiel nieder auf sein Angesicht und betete und sprach: Mein Vater, ist's möglich, so gehe dieser Kelch von mir; doch nicht, wie ich will, sondern wie du willst! | And he went forward a little, and falling down on his face in prayer, he said, O my Father, if it is possible, let this cup go from me; but let not my pleasure, but yours be done. |
| Und er kam zu seinen Jüngern und fand sie schlafend und sprach zu Petrus: Könnet ihr denn nicht eine Stunde mit mir wachen? | And he comes to the disciples, and sees that they are sleeping, and says to Peter, What, were you not able to keep watch with me one hour? |
| Wachet und betet, daß ihr nicht in Anfechtung fallet! Der Geist ist willig; aber das Fleisch ist schwach. | Keep watch with prayer, so that you may not be put to the test: the spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is feeble. |
| Zum andernmal ging er wieder hin, betete und sprach: Mein Vater, ist's nicht möglich, daß dieser Kelch von mir gehe, ich trinke ihn denn, so geschehe dein Wille! | Again, a second time he went away, and said in prayer, O my Father, if this may not go from me without my taking it, let your pleasure be done. |
| Und er kam und fand sie abermals schlafend, und ihre Augen waren voll Schlafs. | And he came again and saw them sleeping, for their eyes were tired. |
| Und er ließ sie und ging abermals hin und betete zum drittenmal und redete dieselben Worte. | And he went away from them again, and a third time said the same prayer. |
| Da kam er zu seinen Jüngern und sprach zu ihnen: Ach wollt ihr nur schlafen und ruhen? Siehe, die Stunde ist hier, daß des Menschen Sohn in der Sünder Hände überantwortet wird. | Then he comes to the disciples; and says to them, Go on sleeping now, and take your rest: for the hour is come, and the Son of man is given into the hands of evil men. |
| Stehet auf, laßt uns gehen! Siehe, er ist da, der mich verrät! | Up, let us be going: see, he who gives me up is near. |
| Und als er noch redete, siehe, da kam Judas, der Zwölf einer, und mit ihm eine große Schar, mit Schwertern und mit Stangen, von den Hohenpriestern und Ältesten des Volks. | And while he was still talking, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a band armed with swords and sticks, from the chief priests and those in authority over the people. |
| Und der Verräter hatte ihnen ein Zeichen gegeben und gesagt: Welchen ich küssen werde, der ist's; den greifet. | Now the false one had given them a sign saying, The one to whom I give a kiss, that is he: take him. |
| Und alsbald trat er zu Jesus und sprach: Gegrüßet seist du, Rabbi! und küßte ihn. | And straight away he came to Jesus and said, Master! and gave him a kiss. |
| Jesus aber sprach zu ihm: Mein Freund, warum bist du gekommen? Da traten sie hinzu und legten die Hände an Jesus und griffen ihn. | And Jesus said to him, Friend, do that for which you have come. Then they came and put hands on Jesus, and took him. |
| Und siehe, einer aus denen, die mit Jesus waren, reckte die Hand aus und zog sein Schwert aus und schlug des Hohenpriesters Knecht und hieb ihm ein Ohr ab. | And one of those who were with Jesus put out his hand, and took out his sword and gave the servant of the high priest a blow, cutting off his ear. |
| Da sprach Jesus zu ihm; Stecke dein Schwert an seinen Ort! denn wer das Schwert nimmt, der soll durchs Schwert umkommen. | Then says Jesus to him, Put up your sword again into its place: for all those who take the sword will come to death by the sword. |
| Oder meinst du, daß ich nicht könnte meinen Vater bitten, daß er mir zuschickte mehr denn zwölf Legionen Engel? | Does it not seem possible to you that if I make request to my Father he will even now send me an army of angels? |
| Wie würde aber die Schrift erfüllet? Es muß also gehen. | But how then would the Writings come true, which say that so it has to be? |
| Zu der Stunde sprach Jesus zu den Scharen: Ihr seid ausgegangen wie zu einem Mörder, mit Schwertern und Stangen, mich zu fangen. Bin ich doch täglich gesessen bei euch und habe gelehrt im Tempel, und ihr habt mich nicht gegriffen. | In that hour Jesus said to the people, Have you come out as against a thief with swords and sticks to take me? I was teaching every day in the Temple and you took me not. |
| Aber das ist alles geschehen, daß erfüllet würden die Schriften der Propheten. Da verließen ihn die Jünger und flohen. | But all this has taken place so that the writings of the prophets might come true. Then all his disciples went from him in flight. |
| Die aber Jesus gegriffen hatten, führten ihn zu dem Hohenpriester Kaiphas, dahin die Schriftgelehrten und Ältesten sich versammelt hatten. | And those who had made Jesus prisoner took him away to the house of Caiaphas, the high priest, where the scribes and those in authority over the people had come together. |
| Petrus aber folgte ihm nach von ferne bis in den Palast des Hohenpriesters und ging hinein und setzte sich zu den Knechten, auf daß er sähe, wo es hinaus wollte. | But Peter went after him at a distance, to the house of the high priest, and went in and took his seat with the servants, to see the end. |
| Die Hohenpriester aber und die Ältesten und der ganze Rat suchten falsch Zeugnis gegen Jesus, auf daß sie ihn töteten, | Now the chief priests and all the Sanhedrin were looking for false witness against Jesus, so that they might put him to death; |
| und fanden keins. Und wiewohl viel falsche Zeugen herzutraten, fanden sie doch keins. Zuletzt traten herzu zwei falsche Zeugen | And they were not able to get it, though a number of false witnesses came. |
| und sprachen: Er hat gesagt: Ich kann den Tempel Gottes abbrechen und in drei Tagen ihn bauen. | But later there came two who said, This man said, I am able to give the Temple of God to destruction, and to put it up again in three days. |
| Und der Hohepriester stand auf und sprach zu ihm: Antwortest du nichts zu dem, was diese wider dich zeugen? | And the high priest got up and said to him, Have you no answer? what is it which these say against you? |
| Aber Jesus schwieg still. Und der Hohepriester antwortete und sprach zu ihm: Ich beschwöre dich bei dem lebendigen Gott, daß du uns sagest, ob du seist Christus, der Sohn Gottes. | But Jesus said not a word. And the high priest said to him, I put you on oath, by the living God, that you will say to us if you are the Christ, the Son of God. |
| Jesus sprach zu ihm: Du sagst es. Doch ich sage euch: Von nun an wird's geschehen, daß ihr werdet sehen des Menschen Sohn sitzen zur Rechten der Kraft und kommen in den Wolken des Himmels. | Jesus says to him, You say so: but I say to you, From now you will see the Son of man seated at the right hand of power, and coming on the clouds of heaven. |
| Da zerriß der Hohepriester seine Kleider und sprach: Er hat Gott gelästert! Was bedürfen wir weiteres Zeugnis? Siehe, jetzt habt ihr seine Gotteslästerung gehört. | Then the high priest, violently parting his robes, said, He has said evil against God: what more need have we of witnesses? for now his words against God have come to your ears: |
| Was dünkt euch? Sie antworteten und sprachen: Er ist des Todes schuldig! | What is your opinion? They made answer and said, It is right for him to be put to death. |
| Da spieen sie aus in sein Angesicht und schlugen ihn mit Fäusten. Etliche aber schlugen ihn ins Angesicht | Then they put shame on him, and were cruel to him: and some gave him blows, saying, |
| und sprachen: Weissage uns, Christe, wer ist's, der dich schlug? | Be a prophet, O Christ, and say who gave you a blow! |
| Petrus aber saß draußen im Hof; und es trat zu ihm eine Magd und sprach: Und du warst auch mit dem Jesus aus Galiläa. | Now Peter was seated in the open square outside the house: and a servant-girl came to him, saying, You were with Jesus the Galilaean. |
| Er leugnete aber vor ihnen allen und sprach: Ich weiß nicht, was du sagst. | But he said before them all that it was false, saying, I have no knowledge of what you say. |
| Als er aber zur Tür hinausging, sah ihn eine andere und sprach zu denen, die da waren: Dieser war auch mit dem Jesus von Nazareth. | And when he had gone out into the doorway, another saw him and says to those who were there, This man was with Jesus the Nazarene. |
| Und er leugnete abermals und schwur dazu: Ich kenne den Menschen nicht. | And again he said with an oath, I have no knowledge of the man. |
| Und über eine kleine Weile traten die hinzu, die dastanden, und sprachen zu Petrus: Wahrlich du bist auch einer von denen; denn deine Sprache verrät dich. | And after a little time those who were near came and said to Peter, Truly you are one of them; because your talk is witness against you. |
| Da hob er an sich zu verfluchen und zu schwören: Ich kenne diesen Menschen nicht. Uns alsbald krähte der Hahn. | Then with curses and oaths he said, I have no knowledge of the man. And straight away there came the cry of a cock. |
| Da dachte Petrus an die Worte Jesu, da er zu ihm sagte: "Ehe der Hahn krähen wird, wirst du mich dreimal verleugnen", und ging hinaus und weinte bitterlich. | And the word of Jesus came back to Peter, when he said, Before the hour of the cock's cry, you will say three times that you have no knowledge of me. And he went out, weeping bitterly. |
