Galatians 5
|
Christ has truly made us free: then keep your free condition and let no man put a yoke on you again. | For freedom did Christ set us free: stand fast therefore, and be not entangled again in a yoke of bondage. |
See, I Paul say to you, that if you undergo circumcision, Christ will be of no use to you. | Behold, I Paul say unto you, that, if ye receive circumcision, Christ will profit you nothing. |
Yes, I give witness again to every man who undergoes circumcision, that he will have to keep all the law. | Yea, I testify again to every man that receiveth circumcision, that he is a debtor to do the whole law. |
You are cut off from Christ, you who would have righteousness by the law; you are turned away from grace. | Ye are severed from Christ, ye would be justified by the law; ye are fallen away from grace. |
For we through the Spirit by faith are waiting for the hope of righteousness. | For we through the Spirit by faith wait for the hope of righteousness. |
Because in Christ Jesus, having circumcision or not having circumcision are equally of no profit; but only faith working through love. | For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth anything, nor uncircumcision; but faith working through love. |
You were going on well; who was the cause of your not giving ear to what is true? | Ye were running well; who hindered you that ye should not obey the truth? |
This ready belief did not come from him who had made you his. | This persuasion [came] not of him that calleth you. |
A little leaven makes a change in all the mass. | A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump. |
I am certain about you in the Lord, that you will be of no other mind; but he who is troubling you will have his punishment, whoever he is. | I have confidence to you-ward in the Lord, that ye will be none otherwise minded: but he that troubleth you shall bear his judgment, whosoever he be. |
But I, brothers, if I am still preaching circumcision, why am I still attacked? then has the shame of the cross been taken away. | But I, brethren, if I still preach circumcision, why am I still persecuted? then hath the stumbling-block of the cross been done away. |
My desire is that they who give you trouble might even be cut off themselves. | I would that they that unsettle you would even go beyond circumcision. |
Because you, brothers, were marked out to be free; only do not make use of your free condition to give the flesh its chance, but through love be servants one to another. | For ye, brethren, were called for freedom; only [use] not your freedom for an occasion to the flesh, but through love be servants one to another. |
For all the law is made complete in one word, even in this, Have love for your neighbour as for yourself. | For the whole law is fulfilled in one word, [even] in this: Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. |
But if you are given to fighting with one another, take care that you are not the cause of destruction one to another. | But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another. |
But I say, Go on in the Spirit, and you will not come under the rule of the evil desires of the flesh. | But I say, walk by the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. |
For the flesh has desires against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; because these are opposite the one to the other; so that you may not do the things which you have a mind to do. | For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are contrary the one to the other; that ye may not do the things that ye would. |
But if you are guided by the Spirit, you are not under the law. | But if ye are led by the Spirit, ye are not under the law. |
Now the works of the flesh are clear, which are these: evil desire, unclean things, wrong use of the senses, | Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are [these]: fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, |
Worship of images, use of strange powers, hates, fighting, desire for what another has, angry feelings, attempts to get the better of others, divisions, false teachings, | idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousies, wraths, factions, divisions, parties, |
Envy, uncontrolled drinking and feasting, and such things: of which I give you word clearly, even as I did in the past, that they who do such things will have no part in the kingdom of God. | envyings, drunkenness, revellings, and such like; of which I forewarn you, even as I did forewarn you, that they who practise such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. |
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, a quiet mind, kind acts, well-doing, faith, | But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, |
Gentle behaviour, control over desires: against such there is no law. | meekness, self-control; against such there is no law. |
And those who are Christ's have put to death on the cross the flesh with its passions and its evil desires. | And they that are of Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with the passions and the lusts thereof. |
If we are living by the Spirit, by the Spirit let us be guided. | If we live by the Spirit, by the Spirit let us also walk. |
Let us not be full of self-glory, making one another angry, having envy of one another. | Let us not become vainglorious, provoking one another, envying one another. |
