|
And after six days Jesus takes with him Peter, and James, and John, his brother, and makes them go up with him into a high mountain by themselves. | And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into a high mountain apart: |
And he was changed in form before them; and his face was shining like the sun, and his clothing became white as light. | and he was transfigured before them; and his face did shine as the sun, and his garments became white as the light. |
And Moses and Elijah came before their eyes, talking with him. | And behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elijah talking with him. |
And Peter made answer and said to Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if you will let me, I will make here three tents, one for you, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah. | And Peter answered, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, I will make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah. |
While he was still talking, a bright cloud came over them: and a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my dearly loved Son, with whom I am well pleased; give ear to him. | While he was yet speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold, a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him. |
And at these words the disciples went down on their faces in great fear. | And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid. |
And Jesus came and put his hand on them and said, Get up and have no fear. | And Jesus came and touched them and said, Arise, and be not afraid. |
And lifting up their eyes, they saw no one, but Jesus only. | And lifting up their eyes, they saw no one, save Jesus only. |
And when they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus gave them orders, saying, Let no man have word of what you have seen, till the Son of man has come again from the dead. | And as they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen from the dead. |
And his disciples, questioning him, said, Why then do the scribes say that Elijah has to come first? | And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elijah must first come? |
And in answer he said, Elijah truly has to come and put all things right: | And he answered and said, Elijah indeed cometh, and shall restore all things: |
But I say to you that Elijah has come, and they had no knowledge of him, but did to him whatever they were pleased to do; the same will the Son of man undergo at their hands. | but I say into you, that Elijah is come already, and they knew him not, but did unto him whatsoever they would. Even so shall the Son of man also suffer of them. |
Then the disciples saw that he was talking to them of John the Baptist. | Then understood the disciples that he spake unto them of John the Baptist. |
And when they came to the people, a man went down on his knees to him, saying, | And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a man, kneeling to him, saying, |
Lord have mercy on my son: for he is off his head, and is in great pain; and frequently he goes falling into the fire, and frequently into the water. | Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is epileptic, and suffereth grievously; for oft-times he falleth into the fire, and off-times into the water. |
And I took him to your disciples, and they were not able to make him well. | And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him. |
And Jesus, answering, said, O false and foolish generation, how long will I be with you? how long will I put up with you? let him come here to me. | And Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I bear with you? bring him hither to me. |
And Jesus gave orders to the unclean spirit, and it went out of him: and the boy was made well from that hour. | And Jesus rebuked him; and the demon went out of him: and the boy was cured from that hour. |
Then the disciples came to Jesus privately, and said, Why were we not able to send it out? | Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast it out? |
And he says to them, Because of your little faith: for truly I say to you, If you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, Be moved from this place to that; and it will be moved; and nothing will be impossible to you. | And he saith unto them, Because of your little faith: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. |
[] | [But this kind goeth not out save by prayer and fasting.] |
And while they were going about in Galilee, Jesus said to them, The Son of man will be given up into the hands of men; | And while they abode in Galilee, Jesus said unto them, The Son of man shall be delivered up into the hands of men; |
And they will put him to death, and the third day he will come again from the dead. And they were very sad. | and they shall kill him, and the third day he shall be raised up. And they were exceeding sorry. |
And when they had come to Capernaum, those who took the Temple tax came to Peter and said, Does not your master make payment of the Temple tax? | And when they were come to Capernaum, they that received the half-shekel came to Peter, and said, Doth not your teacher pay the half-shekel? |
He says, Yes. And when he came into the house, Jesus said to him, What is your opinion, Simon? from whom do the kings of the earth get payment or tax? from their sons or from other people? | He saith, Yea. And when he came into the house, Jesus spake first to him, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? the kings of the earth, from whom do they receive toll or tribute? from their sons, or from strangers? |
And when he said, From other people, Jesus said to him, Then are the sons free. | And when he said, From strangers, Jesus said unto him, Therefore the sons are free. |
But, so that we may not be a cause of trouble to them, go to the sea, and let down a hook, and take the first fish which comes up; and in his mouth you will see a bit of money: take that, and give it to them for me and you. | But, lest we cause them to stumble, go thou to the sea, and cast a hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a shekel: that take, and give unto them for me and thee. |
