| For it is my desire to give you news of the great fight I am making for you and for those at Laodicea, and for all who have not seen my face in the flesh; | Je veux, en effet, que vous sachiez combien est grand le combat que je soutiens pour vous, et pour ceux qui sont à Laodicée, et pour tous ceux qui n`ont pas vu mon visage en la chair, |
| So that their hearts may be comforted, and that being joined together in love, they may come to the full wealth of the certain knowledge of the secret of God, even Christ, | afin qu`ils aient le coeur rempli de consolation, qu`ils soient unis dans la charité, et enrichis d`une pleine intelligence pour connaître le mystère de Dieu, savoir Christ, |
| In whom are all the secret stores of wisdom and knowledge. | mystère dans lequel sont cachés tous les trésors de la sagesse et de la science. |
| I say this so that you may not be turned away by any deceit of words. | Je dis cela afin que personne ne vous trompe par des discours séduisants. |
| For though I am not present in the flesh, still I am with you in the spirit, seeing with joy your order, and your unchanging faith in Christ. | Car, si je suis absent de corps, je suis avec vous en esprit, voyant avec joie le bon ordre qui règne parmi vous, et la fermeté de votre foi en Christ. |
| As, then, you took Christ Jesus the Lord, so go on in him, | Ainsi donc, comme vous avez reçu le Seigneur Jésus Christ, marchez en lui, |
| Rooted and based together in him, strong in the faith which the teaching gave you, giving praise to God at all times. | étant enracinés et fondés en lui, et affermis par la foi, d`après les instructions qui vous ont été données, et abondez en actions de grâces. |
| Take care that no one takes you away by force, through man's wisdom and deceit, going after the beliefs of men and the theories of the world, and not after Christ: | Prenez garde que personne ne fasse de vous sa proie par la philosophie et par une vaine tromperie, s`appuyant sur la tradition des hommes, sur les rudiments du monde, et non sur Christ. |
| For in him all the wealth of God's being has a living form, | Car en lui habite corporellement toute la plénitude de la divinité. |
| And you are complete in him, who is the head of all rule and authority: | Vous avez tout pleinement en lui, qui est le chef de toute domination et de toute autorité. |
| In whom you had a circumcision not made with hands, in the putting off of the body of the flesh, in the circumcision of Christ; | Et c`est en lui que vous avez été circoncis d`une circoncision que la main n`a pas faite, mais de la circoncision de Christ, qui consiste dans le dépouillement du corps de la chair: |
| Having been put to death with him in baptism, by which you came to life again with him, through faith in the working of God, who made him come back from the dead. | ayant été ensevelis avec lui par le baptême, vous êtes aussi ressuscités en lui et avec lui, par la foi en la puissance de Dieu, qui l`a ressuscité des morts. |
| And you, being dead through your sins and the evil condition of your flesh, to you, I say, he gave life together with him, and forgiveness of all our sins; | Vous qui étiez morts par vos offenses et par l`incirconcision de votre chair, il vous a rendus à la vie avec lui, en nous faisant grâce pour toutes nos offenses; |
| Having put an end to the handwriting of the law which was against us, taking it out of the way by nailing it to his cross; | il a effacé l`acte dont les ordonnances nous condamnaient et qui subsistait contre nous, et il l`a détruit en le clouant à la croix; |
| Having made himself free from the rule of authorities and powers, he put them openly to shame, glorying over them in it. | il a dépouillé les dominations et les autorités, et les a livrées publiquement en spectacle, en triomphant d`elles par la croix. |
| For this reason let no man be your judge in any question of food or drink or feast days or new moons or Sabbaths: | Que personne donc ne vous juge au sujet du manger ou du boire, ou au sujet d`une fête, d`une nouvelle lune, ou des sabbats: |
| For these are an image of the things which are to come; but the body is Christ's. | c`était l`ombre des choses à venir, mais le corps est en Christ. |
| Let no man take your reward from you by consciously making little of himself and giving worship to angels; having his thoughts fixed on the things which he has seen, being foolishly lifted up in his natural mind, | Qu`aucun homme, sous une apparence d`humilité et par un culte des anges, ne vous ravisse à son gré le prix de la course, tandis qu`il s`abandonne à ses visions et qu`il est enflé d`un vain orgueil par ses pensées charnelles, |
| And not joined to the Head, from whom all the body, being given strength and kept together through its joins and bands, has its growth with the increase of God. | sans s`attacher au chef, dont tout le corps, assisté et solidement assemblé par des jointures et des liens, tire l`accroissement que Dieu donne. |
| If you were made free, by your death with Christ, from the rules of the world, why do you put yourselves under the authority of orders | Si vous êtes morts avec Christ aux rudiments du monde, pourquoi, comme si vous viviez dans le monde, vous impose-t-on ces préceptes: |
| Which say there may be no touching, tasting, or taking in your hands, | Ne prends pas! ne goûte pas! ne touche pas! |
| (Rules which are all to come to an end with their use) after the orders and teaching of men? | préceptes qui tous deviennent pernicieux par l`abus, et qui ne sont fondés que sur les ordonnances et les doctrines des hommes? |
| These things seem to have a sort of wisdom in self-ordered worship and making little of oneself, and being cruel to the body, not honouring it by giving it its natural use. | Ils ont, à la vérité, une apparence de sagesse, en ce qu`ils indiquent un culte volontaire, de l`humilité, et le mépris du corps, mais ils sont sans aucun mérite et contribuent à la satisfaction de la chair. |
