| And the Lord said to Moses, Go in to Pharaoh: for I have made his heart and the hearts of his servants hard, so that I may let my signs be seen among them: | L`Éternel dit à Moïse: Va vers Pharaon, car j`ai endurci son coeur et le coeur de ses serviteurs, pour faire éclater mes signes au milieu d`eux. |
| And so that you may be able to give to your son and to your son's son the story of my wonders in Egypt, and the signs which I have done among them; so that you may see that I am the Lord. | C`est aussi pour que tu racontes à ton fils et au fils de ton fils comment j`ai traité les Égyptiens, et quels signes j`ai fait éclater au milieu d`eux. Et vous saurez que je suis l`Éternel. |
| Then Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh, and said to him, This is what the Lord, the God of the Hebrews, says: How long will you be lifted up in your pride before me? let my people go so that they may give me worship. | Moïse et Aaron allèrent vers Pharaon, et lui dirent: Ainsi parle l`Éternel, le Dieu des Hébreux: Jusqu`à quand refuseras-tu de t`humilier devant moi? Laisse aller mon peuple, afin qu`il me serve. |
| For if you will not let my people go, tomorrow I will send locusts into your land: | Si tu refuses de laisser aller mon peuple, voici, je ferai venir demain des sauterelles dans toute l`étendue de ton pays. |
| And the face of the earth will be covered with them, so that you will not be able to see the earth: and they will be the destruction of everything which up to now has not been damaged, everything which was not crushed by the ice-storm, and every tree still living in your fields. | Elles couvriront la surface de la terre, et l`on ne pourra plus voir la terre; elles dévoreront le reste de ce qui est échappé, ce que vous a laissé la grêle, elles dévoreront tous les arbres qui croissent dans vos champs; |
| And your houses will be full of them, and the houses of your servants and of all the Egyptians; it will be worse than anything your fathers have seen or their fathers, from the day when they were living on the earth till this day. And so he went out from Pharaoh. | elles rempliront tes maisons, les maisons de tous tes serviteurs et les maisons de tous les Égyptiens. Tes pères et les pères de tes pères n`auront rien vu de pareil depuis qu`ils existent sur la terre jusqu`à ce jour. Moïse se retira, et sortit de chez Pharaon. |
| And Pharaoh's servants said to him, How long is this man to be the cause of evil to us? let the men go so that they may give worship to the Lord their God: are you not awake to Egypt's danger? | Les serviteurs de Pharaon lui dirent: Jusqu`à quand cet homme sera-t-il pour nous un piège? Laisse aller ces gens, et qu`ils servent l`Éternel, leur Dieu. Ne vois-tu pas encore que l`Égypte périt? |
| Then Moses and Aaron came in again before Pharaoh: and he said to them, Go and give worship to the Lord your God: but which of you are going? | On fit revenir vers Pharaon Moïse et Aaron: Allez, leur dit-il, servez l`Éternel, votre Dieu. Qui sont ceux qui iront? |
| And Moses said, We will go with our young and our old, with our sons and our daughters, with our flocks and our herds; for we are to keep a feast to the Lord. | Moïse répondit: Nous irons avec nos enfants et nos vieillards, avec nos fils et nos filles, avec nos brebis et nos boeufs; car c`est pour nous une fête en l`honneur de l`Éternel. |
| And he said to them, May the Lord be with you, if I will let you and your little ones go! take care, for your purpose clearly is evil. | Pharaon leur dit: Que l`Éternel soit avec vous, tout comme je vais vous laisser aller, vous et vos enfants! Prenez garde, car le malheur est devant vous! |
| Not so; but let your males go and give worship to the Lord, as your desire is. This he said, driving them out from before him. | Non, non: allez, vous les hommes, et servez l`Éternel, car c`est là ce que vous avez demandé. Et on les chassa de la présence de Pharaon. |
| And the Lord said to Moses, Let your hand be stretched out over the land of Egypt so that the locusts may come up on the land for the destruction of every green plant in the land, even everything untouched by the ice-storm. | L`Éternel dit à Moïse: Étends ta main sur le pays d`Égypte, et que les sauterelles montent sur le pays d`Égypte; qu`elles dévorent toute l`herbe de la terre, tout ce que la grêle a laissé. |
| And Moses' rod was stretched out over the land of Egypt, and the Lord sent an east wind over the land all that day and all the night; and in the morning the locusts came up with the east wind. | Moïse étendit sa verge sur le pays d`Égypte; et l`Éternel fit souffler un vent d`orient sur le pays toute cette journée et toute la nuit. Quand ce fut le matin, le vent d`orient avait apporté les sauterelles. |
| And the locusts went up over all the land of Egypt, resting on every part of the land, in very great numbers; such an army of locusts had never been seen before, and never will be again. | Les sauterelles montèrent sur le pays d`Égypte, et se posèrent dans toute l`étendue de l`Égypte; elles étaient en si grande quantité qu`il n`y avait jamais eu et qu`il n`y aura jamais rien de semblable. |
| For all the face of the earth was covered with them, so that the land was black; and every green plant and all the fruit of the trees which was untouched by the ice-storm they took for food: not one green thing, no plant or tree, was to be seen in all the land of Egypt. | Elles couvrirent la surface de toute la terre, et la terre fut dans l`obscurité; elles dévorèrent toute l`herbe de la terre et tout le fruit des arbres, tout ce que la grêle avait laissé; et il ne resta aucune verdure aux arbres ni à l`herbe des champs, dans tout le pays d`Égypte. |
| Then Pharaoh quickly sent for Moses and Aaron, and said, I have done evil against the Lord your God and against you. | Aussitôt Pharaon appela Moïse et Aaron, et dit: J`ai péché contre l`Éternel, votre Dieu, et contre vous. |
| Let me now have forgiveness for my sin this time only, and make prayer to the Lord your God that he will take away from me this death only. | Mais pardonne mon péché pour cette fois seulement; et priez l`Éternel, votre Dieu, afin qu`il éloigne de moi encore cette plaie mortelle. |
| So he went out from Pharaoh and made prayer to the Lord. | Moïse sortit de chez Pharaon, et il pria l`Éternel. |
| And the Lord sent a very strong west wind, which took up the locusts, driving them into the Red Sea; not one locust was to be seen in any part of Egypt. | L`Éternel fit souffler un vent d`occident très fort, qui emporta les sauterelles, et les précipita dans la mer Rouge; il ne resta pas une seule sauterelle dans toute l`étendue de l`Égypte. |
| But the Lord made Pharaoh's heart hard, and he did not let the children of Israel go. | L`Éternel endurcit le coeur de Pharaon, et Pharaon ne laissa point aller les enfants d`Israël. |
| And the Lord said to Moses, Let your hand be stretched out to heaven, and all the land of Egypt will be dark, so that men will be feeling their way about in the dark. | L`Éternel dit à Moïse: Étends ta main vers le ciel, et qu`il y ait des ténèbres sur le pays d`Égypte, et que l`on puisse les toucher. |
| And when Moses' hand was stretched out, dark night came over all the land of Egypt for three days; | Moïse étendit sa main vers le ciel; et il y eut d`épaisses ténèbres dans tout le pays d`Égypte, pendant trois jours. |
| They were not able to see one another, and no one got up from his place for three days: but where the children of Israel were living it was light. | On ne se voyait pas les uns les autres, et personne ne se leva de sa place pendant trois jours. Mais il y avait de la lumière dans les lieux où habitaient tous les enfants d`Israël. |
| Then Pharaoh sent for Moses, and said, Go and give worship to the Lord; only let your flocks and your herds be kept here: your little ones may go with you. | Pharaon appela Moïse, et dit: Allez, servez l`Éternel. Il n`y aura que vos brebis et vos boeufs qui resteront, et vos enfants pourront aller avec vous. |
| But Moses said, You will have to let us take burned offerings to put before the Lord our God. | Moïse répondit: Tu mettras toi-même entre nos mains de quoi faire les sacrifices et les holocaustes que nous offrirons à l`Éternel, notre Dieu. |
| So our cattle will have to go with us, not one may be kept back; for they are needed for the worship of the Lord our God; we have no knowledge what offering we have to give till we come to the place. | Nos troupeaux iront avec nous, et il ne restera pas un ongle; car c`est là que nous prendrons pour servir l`Éternel, notre Dieu; et jusqu`à ce que nous soyons arrivés, nous ne savons pas ce que nous choisirons pour offrir à l`Éternel. |
| But the Lord made Pharaoh's heart hard, and he would not let them go. | L`Éternel endurcit le coeur de Pharaon, et Pharaon ne voulut point les laisser aller. |
| And Pharaoh said to him, Go away from me, take care that you come not again before me; for the day when you see my face again will be your last. | Pharaon dit à Moïse: Sors de chez moi! Garde-toi de paraître encore en ma présence, car le jour où tu paraîtras en ma présence, tu mourras. |
| And Moses said, You say truly; I will not see your face again. | Tu l`as dit! répliqua Moïse, je ne paraîtrai plus en ta présence. |
