| Ephraim's food is the wind, and he goes after the east wind: deceit and destruction are increasing day by day; they make an agreement with Assyria, and take oil into Egypt. | Éphraïm se repaît de vent, et poursuit le vent d`orient; Chaque jour il multiplie le mensonge et la violence; Il fait alliance avec l`Assyrie, Et on porte de l`huile en Égypte. |
| The Lord has a cause against Judah, and will give punishment to Jacob for his ways; he will give him the reward of his acts. | L`Éternel est aussi en contestation avec Juda, Et il punira Jacob pour sa conduite, Il lui rendra selon ses oeuvres. |
| In the body of his mother he took his brother by the foot, and in his strength he was fighting with God; | Dans le sein maternel Jacob saisit son frère par le talon, Et dans sa vigueur, il lutta avec Dieu. |
| He had a fight with the angel and overcame him; he made request for grace to him with weeping; he came face to face with him in Beth-el and there his words came to him; | Il lutta avec l`ange, et il fut vainqueur, Il pleura, et lui adressa des supplications. Jacob l`avait trouvé à Béthel, Et c`est là que Dieu nous a parlé. |
| Even the Lord, the God of armies; the Lord is his name. | L`Éternel est le Dieu des armées; Son nom est l`Éternel. |
| So then, come back to your God; keep mercy and right, and be waiting at all times on your God. | Et toi, reviens à ton Dieu, Garde la piété et la justice, Et espère toujours en ton Dieu. |
| As for Canaan, the scales of deceit are in his hands; he takes pleasure in twisted ways. | Éphraïm est un marchand qui a dans sa main des balances fausses, Il aime à tromper. |
| And Ephraim said, Now I have got wealth and much property; in all my works no sin may be seen in me. | Et Éphraïm dit: A la vérité, je me suis enrichi, J`ai acquis de la fortune; Mais c`est entièrement le produit de mon travail; On ne trouvera chez moi aucune iniquité, rien qui soit un crime. |
| But I am the Lord your God from the land of Egypt; I will give you tents for your living-places again as in the days of the holy meeting. | Et moi, je suis l`Éternel, ton Dieu, dès le pays d`Égypte; Je te ferai encore habiter sous des tentes, comme aux jours de fêtes. |
| My word came to the ears of the prophets and I gave them visions in great number, and by the mouths of the prophets I made use of comparisons. | J`ai parlé aux prophètes, J`ai multiplié les visions, Et par les prophètes j`ai proposé des paraboles. |
| In Gilead there is evil. They are quite without value; in Gilgal they make offerings of oxen; truly their altars are like masses of stones in the hollows of a ploughed field. | Si Galaad n`est que néant, ils seront certainement anéantis. Ils sacrifient des boeufs dans Guilgal: Aussi leurs autels seront comme des monceaux de pierres Sur les sillons des champs. |
| And Jacob went in flight into the field of Aram, and Israel became a servant for a wife, and for a wife he kept sheep. | Jacob s`enfuit au pays d`Aram, Israël servit pour une femme, Et pour une femme il garda les troupeaux. |
| And by a prophet the Lord made Israel come up out of Egypt, and by a prophet he was kept safe. | Par un prophète l`Éternel fit monter Israël hors d`Égypte, Et par un prophète Israël fut gardé. |
| I have been bitterly moved to wrath by Ephraim; so that his blood will be on him, and the Lord will make his shame come back on him. | Éphraïm a irrité l`Éternel amèrement: Son Seigneur rejettera sur lui le sang qu`il a répandu, Il fera retomber sur lui la honte qui lui appartient. |
