| Then again the word of the Lord came to me, saying, | La parole de l`Éternel me fut adressée, en ces mots: |
| You are not to take a wife for yourself or have sons or daughters in this place. | Tu ne prendras point de femme, Et tu n`auras dans ce lieu ni fils ni filles. |
| For this is what the Lord has said about the sons and daughters who come to birth in this place, and about their mothers who have given them birth, and about their fathers who have given life to them in this land: | Car ainsi parle l`Éternel sur les fils et les filles Qui naîtront en ce lieu, Sur leurs mères qui les auront enfantés, Et sur leurs pères qui les auront engendrés dans ce pays: |
| Death from evil diseases will overtake them; there will be no weeping for them and their bodies will not be put to rest; they will be like waste on the face of the earth: the sword and need of food will put an end to them; their dead bodies will be meat for the birds of heaven and for the beasts of the earth. | Ils mourront consumés par la maladie; On ne leur donnera ni larmes ni sépulture; Ils seront comme du fumier sur la terre; Ils périront par l`épée et par la famine; Et leurs cadavres serviront de pâture Aux oiseaux du ciel et aux bêtes de la terre. |
| For this is what the Lord has said: Do not go into the house of sorrow, do not go to make weeping or songs of grief for them: for I have taken away my peace from this people, says the Lord, even mercy and pity. | Car ainsi parle l`Éternel: N`entre pas dans une maison de deuil, N`y va pas pleurer, te lamenter avec eux; Car j`ai retiré à ce peuple ma paix, dit l`Éternel, Ma bonté et ma miséricorde. |
| Death will overtake great as well as small in the land: their bodies will not be put in a resting-place, and no one will be weeping for them or wounding themselves or cutting off their hair for them: | Grands et petits mourront dans ce pays; On ne leur donnera point de sépulture; On ne les pleurera point, On ne se fera point d`incision, Et l`on ne se rasera pas pour eux. |
| No one will make a feast for them in sorrow, to give them comfort for the dead, or put to their lips the cup of comfort on account of their father or their mother. | On ne rompra pas le pain dans le deuil Pour consoler quelqu`un au sujet d`un mort, Et l`on n`offrira pas la coupe de consolation Pour un père ou pour une mère. |
| And you are not to go into the house of feasting, or be seated with them to take food or drink. | N`entre pas non plus dans une maison de festin, Pour t`asseoir avec eux, Pour manger et pour boire. |
| For the Lord of armies, the God of Israel, has said, See, before your eyes and in your days I will put an end in this place to the laughing voices and the voice of joy; to the voice of the newly-married man and the voice of the bride. | Car ainsi parle l`Éternel des armées, le Dieu d`Israël: Voici, je ferai cesser dans ce lieu, sous vos yeux et de vos jours, Les cris de réjouissance et les cris d`allégresse, Les chants du fiancé et les chants de la fiancée. |
| And it will be, that when you say all these words to the people, then they will say to you, Why has the Lord done all this evil against us? what is our wrongdoing and what is our sin which we have done against the Lord our God? | Lorsque tu annonceras à ce peuple toutes ces choses, Ils te diront: Pourquoi l`Éternel nous menace-t-il de tous ces grands malheurs? Quelle est notre iniquité? Quel péché avons-nous commis contre l`Éternel, notre Dieu? |
| Then you will say to them, Because your fathers have given me up, says the Lord, and have gone after other gods and become their servants and their worshippers, and have given me up and have not kept my law; | Alors tu leur répondras: Vos pères m`ont abandonné, dit l`Éternel, Ils sont allés après d`autres dieux, Ils les ont servis et se sont prosternés devant eux; Ils m`ont abandonné, et n`ont point observé ma loi. |
| And you have done worse evil than your fathers; for see, every one of you is guided by the pride of his evil heart, so as not to give ear to me: | Et vous, vous avez fait le mal plus encore que vos pères; Et voici, vous suivez chacun les penchants de votre mauvais coeur, Pour ne point m`écouter. |
| For this reason I will send you away out of this land into a land which is strange to you, to you and to your fathers; there you will be the servants of other gods day and night, and you will have no mercy from me. | Je vous transporterai de ce pays Dans un pays que vous n`avez point connu, Ni vous, ni vos pères; Et là, vous servirez les autres dieux jour et nuit, Car je ne vous accorderai point de grâce. |
| For this cause, see, the days are coming, says the Lord, when it will no longer be said, By the living Lord, who took the children of Israel up out of the land of Egypt. | C`est pourquoi voici, les jours viennent, dit l`Éternel, Où l`on ne dira plus: L`Éternel est vivant, Lui qui a fait monter du pays d`Égypte les enfants d`Israël! |
| But, By the living Lord, who took the children of Israel up out of the land of the north, and from all the countries where he had sent them: and I will take them back again to their land which I gave to their fathers. | Mais on dira: L`Éternel est vivant, Lui qui a fait monter les enfants d`Israël du pays du septentrion Et de tous les pays où il les avait chassés! Je les ramènerai dans leur pays, Que j`avais donné à leurs pères. |
| See, I will send for great numbers of fishermen, says the Lord, and they will take them like fish in a net; and after that, I will send for numbers of bowmen, and they will go after them, driving them from every mountain and from every hill, and out of the holes of the rocks. | Voici, j`envoie une multitude de pêcheurs, dit l`Éternel, et ils les pêcheront; Et après cela j`enverrai une multitude de chasseurs, et ils les chasseront De toutes les montagnes et de toutes les collines, Et des fentes des rochers. |
| For my eyes are on all their ways: there is no cover for them from my face, and their evil-doing is not kept secret from my eyes. | Car mes yeux sont attentifs à toutes leurs voies, Elles ne sont point cachées devant ma face, Et leur iniquité ne se dérobe point à mes regards. |
| And I will give them the reward of their evil-doing and their sin twice over; because they have made my land unclean, and have made my heritage full of the bodies of their unholy and disgusting things. | Je leur donnerai d`abord le double salaire de leur iniquité et de leur péché, Parce qu`ils ont profané mon pays, Parce qu`ils ont rempli mon héritage Des cadavres de leurs idoles et de leurs abominations. |
| O Lord, my strength and my strong tower, my safe place in the day of trouble, the nations will come to you from the ends of the earth, and say, The heritage of our fathers is nothing but deceit, even false things in which there is no profit. | Éternel, ma force et mon appui, mon refuge au jour de la détresse! Les nations viendront à toi des extrémités de la terre, Et elles diront: Nos pères n`ont hérité que le mensonge, De vaines idoles, qui ne servent à rien. |
| Will a man make for himself gods which are no gods? | L`homme peut-il se faire des dieux, Qui ne sont pas des dieux? - |
| For this reason, truly, I will make them see, this once I will give them knowledge of my hand and my power; and they will be certain that my name is the Lord. | C`est pourquoi voici, je leur fais connaître, cette fois, Je leur fais connaître ma puissance et ma force; Et ils sauront que mon nom est l`Éternel. |
