The evil man goes running away when no man is after him, but the upright are without fear, like the lion. | Le méchant prend la fuite sans qu`on le poursuive, Le juste a de l`assurance comme un jeune lion. |
Because of the sin of the land, its troubles are increased; but by a man of wisdom and knowledge they will be put out like a fire. | Quand un pays est en révolte, les chefs sont nombreux; Mais avec un homme qui a de l`intelligence et de la science, Le règne se prolonge. |
A man of wealth who is cruel to the poor is like a violent rain causing destruction of food. | Un homme pauvre qui opprime les misérables Est une pluie violente qui fait manquer le pain. |
Those who have no respect for the law give praise to the evil-doer; but such as keep the law are against him. | Ceux qui abandonnent la loi louent le méchant, Mais ceux qui observent la loi s`irritent contre lui. |
Evil men have no knowledge of what is right; but those who go after the Lord have knowledge of all things. | Les hommes livrés au mal ne comprennent pas ce qui est juste, Mais ceux qui cherchent l`Éternel comprennent tout. |
Better is the poor man whose ways are upright, than the man of wealth whose ways are not straight. | Mieux vaut le pauvre qui marche dans son intégrité, Que celui qui a des voies tortueuses et qui est riche. |
He who keeps the law is a wise son, but he who keeps company with feasters puts shame on his father. | Celui qui observe la loi est un fils intelligent, Mais celui qui fréquente les débauchés fait honte à son père. |
He who makes his wealth greater by taking interest, only gets it together for him who has pity on the poor. | Celui qui augmente ses biens par l`intérêt et l`usure Les amasse pour celui qui a pitié des pauvres. |
As for the man whose ear is turned away from hearing the law, even his prayer is disgusting. | Si quelqu`un détourne l`oreille pour ne pas écouter la loi, Sa prière même est une abomination. |
Anyone causing the upright to go wandering in an evil way, will himself go down into the hole he has made; but the upright will have good things for their heritage. | Celui qui égare les hommes droits dans la mauvaise voie Tombe dans la fosse qu`il a creusée; Mais les hommes intègres héritent le bonheur. |
The man of wealth seems to himself to be wise, but the poor man who has sense has a low opinion of him. | L`homme riche se croit sage; Mais le pauvre qui est intelligent le sonde. |
When the upright do well, there is great glory; but when evil-doers are lifted up, men do not let themselves be seen. | Quand les justes triomphent, c`est une grande gloire; Quand les méchants s`élèvent, chacun se cache. |
He who keeps his sins secret will not do well; but one who is open about them, and gives them up, will get mercy. | Celui qui cache ses transgressions ne prospère point, Mais celui qui les avoue et les délaisse obtient miséricorde. |
Happy is the man in whom is the fear of the Lord at all times; but he whose heart is hard will come into trouble. | Heureux l`homme qui est continuellement dans la crainte! Mais celui qui endurcit son coeur tombe dans le malheur. |
Like a loud-voiced lion and a wandering bear, is an evil ruler over a poor people. | Comme un lion rugissant et un ours affamé, Ainsi est le méchant qui domine sur un peuple pauvre. |
The prince who has no sense is a cruel ruler; but he who has no desire to get profit for himself will have long life. | Un prince sans intelligence multiplie les actes d`oppression, Mais celui qui est ennemi de la cupidité prolonge ses jours. |
One who has been the cause of a man's death will go in flight to the underworld: let no man give him help. | Un homme chargé du sang d`un autre Fuit jusqu`à la fosse: qu`on ne l`arrête pas! |
He whose ways are upright will be safe, but sudden will be the fall of him whose ways are twisted. | Celui qui marche dans l`intégrité trouve le salut, Mais celui qui suit deux voies tortueuses tombe dans l`une d`elles. |
By ploughing his land a man will have bread in full measure; but he who goes after good-for-nothing persons will be poor enough. | Celui qui cultive son champ est rassasié de pain, Mais celui qui poursuit des choses vaines est rassasié de pauvreté. |
A man of good faith will have great blessing, but one attempting to get wealth quickly will not go free from punishment. | Un homme fidèle est comblé de bénédictions, Mais celui qui a hâte de s`enrichir ne reste pas impuni. |
It is not good to have respect for a man's position: for a man will do wrong for a bit of bread. | Il n`est pas bon d`avoir égard aux personnes, Et pour un morceau de pain un homme se livre au péché. |
He who is ever desiring wealth goes running after money, and does not see that need will come on him. | Un homme envieux a hâte de s`enrichir, Et il ne sait pas que la disette viendra sur lui. |
He who says words of protest to a man will later have more approval than one who says smooth words with his tongue. | Celui qui reprend les autres trouve ensuite plus de faveur Que celui dont la langue est flatteuse. |
He who takes from his father or his mother what is theirs by right, and says, It is no sin; is the same as a taker of life. | Celui qui vole son père et sa mère, Et qui dit: Ce n`est pas un péché! Est le compagnon du destructeur. |
He who is ever desiring profit is a cause of fighting; but he who puts his faith in the Lord will be made fat. | L`orgueilleux excite les querelles, Mais celui qui se confie en l`Éternel est rassasié. |
He whose faith is in himself is foolish; but everyone walking wisely will be kept safe. | Celui qui a confiance dans son propre coeur est un insensé, Mais celui qui marche dans la sagesse sera sauvé. |
He who gives to the poor will never be in need, but great curses will be on him who gives no attention to them. | Celui qui donne au pauvre n`éprouve pas la disette, Mais celui qui ferme les yeux est chargé de malédictions. |
When evil-doers are lifted up, men take cover; but when destruction overtakes them, the upright are increased. | Quand les méchants s`élèvent, chacun se cache; Et quand ils périssent, les justes se multiplient. |
