| Now if you give ear to the voice of the Lord your God, and keep with care all these orders which I have given you today, then the Lord your God will put you high over all the nations of the earth: | Si tu obéis à la voix de l`Éternel, ton Dieu, en observant et en mettant en pratique tous ses commandements que je te prescris aujourd`hui, l`Éternel, ton Dieu, te donnera la supériorité sur toutes les nations de la terre. |
| And all these blessings will come on you and overtake you, if your ears are open to the voice of the Lord your God. | Voici toutes les bénédictions qui se répandront sur toi et qui seront ton partage, lorsque tu obéiras à la voix de l`Éternel, ton Dieu: |
| A blessing will be on you in the town, and a blessing in the field. | Tu seras béni dans la ville, et tu seras béni dans les champs. |
| A blessing will be on the fruit of your body, and on the fruit of your land, on the fruit of your cattle, the increase of your herd, and the young of your flock. | Le fruit de tes entrailles, le fruit de ton sol, le fruit de tes troupeaux, les portées de ton gros et de ton menu bétail, toutes ces choses seront bénies. |
| A blessing will be on your basket and on your bread-basin. | Ta corbeille et ta huche seront bénies. |
| A blessing will be on your coming in and on your going out. | Tu seras béni à ton arrivée, et tu seras béni à ton départ. |
| By the power of the Lord, those who take arms against you will be overcome before you: they will come out against you one way, and will go in flight from you seven ways. | L`Éternel te donnera la victoire sur tes ennemis qui s`élèveront contre toi; ils sortiront contre toi par un seul chemin, et ils s`enfuiront devant toi par sept chemins. |
| The Lord will send his blessing on your store-houses and on everything to which you put your hand: his blessing will be on you in the land which the Lord your God is giving you. | L`Éternel ordonnera à la bénédiction d`être avec toi dans tes greniers et dans toutes tes entreprises. Il te bénira dans le pays que l`Éternel, ton Dieu, te donne. |
| The Lord will keep you as a people holy to himself, as he has said to you in his oath, if you keep the orders of the Lord your God and go on walking in his ways. | Tu seras pour l`Éternel un peuple saint, comme il te l`a juré, lorsque tu observeras les commandements de l`Éternel, ton Dieu, et que tu marcheras dans ses voies. |
| And all the peoples of the earth will see that the name of the Lord is on you, and they will go in fear of you. | Tous les peuples verront que tu es appelé du nom de l`Éternel, et ils te craindront. |
| And the Lord will make you fertile in every good thing, in the fruit of your body, and the fruit of your cattle, and the fruit of your fields, in the land which the Lord, by his oath to your fathers, said he would give you. | L`Éternel te comblera de biens, en multipliant le fruit de tes entrailles, le fruit de tes troupeaux et le fruit de ton sol, dans le pays que l`Éternel a juré à tes pères de te donner. |
| Opening his store-house in heaven, the Lord will send rain on your land at the right time, blessing all the work of your hands: other nations will make use of your wealth, and you will have no need of theirs. | L`Éternel t`ouvrira son bon trésor, le ciel, pour envoyer à ton pays la pluie en son temps et pour bénir tout le travail de tes mains; tu prêteras à beaucoup de nations, et tu n`emprunteras point. |
| The Lord will make you the head and not the tail; and you will ever have the highest place, if you give ear to the orders of the Lord your God which I give you today, to keep and to do them; | L`Éternel fera de toi la tête et non la queue, tu seras toujours en haut et tu ne seras jamais en bas, lorsque tu obéiras aux commandements de l`Éternel, ton Dieu, que je te prescris aujourd`hui, lorsque tu les observeras et les mettras en pratique, |
| Not turning away from any of the orders which I give you today, to the right hand or to the left, or going after any other gods to give them worship. | et que tu ne te détourneras ni à droite ni à gauche de tous les commandements que je vous donne aujourd`hui, pour aller après d`autres dieux et pour les servir. |
| But if you do not give ear to the voice of the Lord your God, and take care to do all his orders and his laws which I give you today, then all these curses will come on you and overtake you: | Mais si tu n`obéis point à la voix de l`Éternel, ton Dieu, si tu n`observes pas et ne mets pas en pratique tous ses commandements et toutes ses lois que je te prescris aujourd`hui, voici toutes les malédictions qui viendront sur toi et qui seront ton partage: |
| You will be cursed in the town and cursed in the field. | Tu seras maudit dans la ville, et tu seras maudit dans les champs. |
| A curse will be on your basket and on your bread-basin. | Ta corbeille et ta huche seront maudites. |
| A curse will be on the fruit of your body, and on the fruit of your land, on the increase of your cattle, and the young of your flock. | Le fruit de tes entrailles, le fruit de ton sol, les portées de ton gros et de ton menu bétail, toutes ces choses seront maudites. |
| You will be cursed when you come in and cursed when you go out. | Tu seras maudit à ton arrivée, et tu seras maudit à ton départ. |
| The Lord will send on you cursing and trouble and punishment in everything to which you put your hand, till sudden destruction overtakes you; because of your evil ways in which you have been false to me. | L`Éternel enverra contre toi la malédiction, le trouble et la menace, au milieu de toutes les entreprises que tu feras, jusqu`à ce que tu sois détruit, jusqu`à ce que tu périsses promptement, à cause de la méchanceté de tes actions, qui t`aura porté à m`abandonner. |
| The Lord will send disease after disease on you, till you have been cut off by death from the land to which you are going. | L`Éternel attachera à toi la peste, jusqu`à ce qu`elle te consume dans le pays dont tu vas entrer en possession. |
| The Lord will send wasting disease, and burning pain, and flaming heat against you, keeping back the rain till your land is waste and dead; so will it be till your destruction is complete. | L`Éternel te frappera de consomption, de fièvre, d`inflammation, de chaleur brûlante, de dessèchement, de jaunisse et de gangrène, qui te poursuivront jusqu`à ce que tu périsses. |
| And the heaven over your heads will be brass, and the earth under you hard as iron. | Le ciel sur ta tête sera d`airain, et la terre sous toi sera de fer. |
| The Lord will make the rain of your land powder and dust, sending it down on you from heaven till your destruction is complete. | L`Éternel enverra pour pluie à ton pays de la poussière et de la poudre; il en descendra du ciel sur toi jusqu`à ce que tu sois détruit. |
| The Lord will let you be overcome by your haters: you will go out against them one way, and you will go in flight before them seven ways: you will be the cause of fear among all the kingdoms of the earth. | L`Éternel te fera battre par tes ennemis; tu sortiras contre eux par un seul chemin, et tu t`enfuiras devant eux par sept chemins; et tu seras un objet d`effroi pour tous les royaumes de la terre. |
| Your bodies will be meat for all the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth; there will be no one to send them away. | Ton cadavre sera la pâture de tous les oiseaux du ciel et des bêtes de la terre; et il n`y aura personne pour les troubler. |
| The Lord will send on you the disease of Egypt, and other sorts of skin diseases which nothing will make well. | L`Éternel te frappera de l`ulcère d`Égypte, d`hémorroïdes, de gale et de teigne, dont tu ne pourras guérir. |
| He will make your minds diseased, and your eyes blind, and your hearts wasted with fear: | L`Éternel te frappera de délire, d`aveuglement, d`égarement d`esprit, |
| You will go feeling your way when the sun is high, like a blind man for whom all is dark, and nothing will go well for you: you will be crushed and made poor for ever, and you will have no saviour. | et tu tâtonneras en plein midi comme l`aveugle dans l`obscurité, tu n`auras point de succès dans tes entreprises, et tu seras tous les jours opprimé, dépouillé, et il n`y aura personne pour venir à ton secours. |
| You will take a wife, but another man will have the use of her: the house which your hands have made will never be your resting-place: you will make a vine-garden, and never take the fruit of it. | Tu auras une fiancée, et un autre homme couchera avec elle; tu bâtiras une maison, et tu ne l`habiteras pas; tu planteras une vigne, et tu n`en jouiras pas. |
| Your ox will be put to death before your eyes, but its flesh will not be your food: your ass will be violently taken away before your face, and will not be given back to you: your sheep will be given to your haters, and there will be no saviour for you. | Ton boeuf sera égorgé sous tes yeux, et tu n`en mangeras pas; ton âne sera enlevé devant toi, et on ne te le rendra pas; tes brebis seront données à tes ennemis, et il n`y aura personne pour venir à ton secours. |
| Your sons and your daughters will be given to another people, and your eyes will be wasted away with looking and weeping for them all the day: and you will have no power to do anything. | Tes fils et tes filles seront livrés à un autre peuple, tes yeux le verront et languiront tout le jour après eux, et ta main sera sans force. |
| The fruit of your land and all the work of your hands will be food for a nation which is strange to you and to your fathers; you will only be crushed down and kept under for ever: | Un peuple que tu n`auras point connu mangera le fruit de ton sol et tout le produit de ton travail, et tu seras tous les jours opprimé et écrasé. |
| So that the things which your eyes have to see will send you out of your minds. | Le spectacle que tu auras sous les yeux te jettera dans le délire. |
| The Lord will send a skin disease, attacking your knees and your legs, bursting out from your feet to the top of your head, so that nothing will make you well. | L`Éternel te frappera aux genoux et aux cuisses d`un ulcère malin dont tu ne pourras guérir, il te frappera depuis la plante du pied jusqu`au sommet de la tête. |
| And you, and the king whom you have put over you, will the Lord take away to a nation strange to you and to your fathers; there you will be servants to other gods of wood and stone. | L`Éternel te fera marcher, toi et ton roi que tu auras établi sur toi, vers une nation que tu n`auras point connue, ni toi ni tes pères. Et là, tu serviras d`autres dieux, du bois et de la pierre. |
| And you will become a wonder and a name of shame among all the nations where the Lord will take you. | Et tu seras un sujet d`étonnement, de sarcasme et de raillerie, parmi tous les peuples chez qui l`Éternel te mènera. |
| You will take much seed out into the field, and get little in; for the locust will get it. | Tu transporteras sur ton champ beaucoup de semence; et tu feras une faible récolte, car les sauterelles la dévoreront. |
| You will put in vines and take care of them, but you will get no wine or grapes from them; for they will be food for worms. | Tu planteras des vignes et tu les cultiveras; et tu ne boiras pas de vin et tu ne feras pas de récolte, car les vers la mangeront. |
| Your land will be full of olive-trees, but there will be no oil for the comfort of your body; for your olive-tree will give no fruit. | Tu auras des oliviers dans toute l`étendue de ton pays; et tu ne t`oindras pas d`huile, car tes olives tomberont. |
| You will have sons and daughters, but they will not be yours; for they will go away prisoners into a strange land. | Tu engendreras des fils et des filles; et ils ne seront pas à toi, car ils iront en captivité. |
| All your trees and the fruit of your land will be the locust's. | Les insectes prendront possession de tous tes arbres et du fruit de ton sol. |
| The man from a strange land who is living among you will be lifted up higher and higher over you, while you go down lower and lower. | L`étranger qui sera au milieu de toi s`élèvera toujours plus au-dessus de toi, et toi, tu descendras toujours plus bas; |
| He will let you have his wealth at interest, and will have no need of yours: he will be the head and you the tail. | il te prêtera, et tu ne lui prêteras pas; il sera la tête, et tu seras la queue. |
| And all these curses will come after you and overtake you, till your destruction is complete; because you did not give ear to the voice of the Lord your God, or keep his laws and his orders which he gave you: | Toutes ces malédictions viendront sur toi, elles te poursuivront et seront ton partage jusqu`à ce que tu sois détruit, parce que tu n`auras pas obéi à la voix de l`Éternel, ton Dieu, parce que tu n`auras pas observé ses commandements et ses lois qu`il te prescrit. |
| These things will come on you and on your seed, to be a sign and a wonder for ever; | Elles seront à jamais pour toi et pour tes descendants comme des signes et des prodiges. |
| Because you did not give honour to the Lord your God, worshipping him gladly, with joy in your hearts on account of all your wealth of good things; | Pour n`avoir pas, au milieu de l`abondance de toutes choses, servi l`Éternel, ton Dieu, avec joie et de bon coeur, |
| For this cause you will become servants to those whom the Lord your God will send against you, without food and drink and clothing, and in need of all things: and he will put a yoke of iron on your neck till he has put an end to you. | tu serviras, au milieu de la faim, de la soif, de la nudité et de la disette de toutes choses, tes ennemis que l`Éternel enverra contre toi. Il mettra un joug de fer sur ton cou, jusqu`à ce qu`il t`ait détruit. |
| The Lord will send a nation against you from the farthest ends of the earth, coming with the flight of an eagle; a nation whose language is strange to you; | L`Éternel fera partir de loin, des extrémités de la terre, une nation qui fondra sur toi d`un vol d`aigle, une nation dont tu n`entendras point la langue, |
| A hard-faced nation, who will have no respect for the old or mercy for the young: | une nation au visage farouche, et qui n`aura ni respect pour le vieillard ni pitié pour l`enfant. |
| He will take the fruit of your cattle and of your land till death puts an end to you: he will let you have nothing of your grain or wine or oil or any of the increase of your cattle or the young of your flock, till he has made your destruction complete. | Elle mangera le fruit de tes troupeaux et le fruit de ton sol, jusqu`à ce que tu sois détruit; elle ne te laissera ni blé, ni moût, ni huile, ni portées de ton gros et de ton menu bétail, jusqu`à ce qu`elle t`ait fait périr. |
| Your towns will be shut in by his armies, till your high walls, in which you put your faith, have come down: his armies will be round your towns, through all your land which the Lord your God has given you. | Elle t`assiégera dans toutes tes portes, jusqu`à ce que tes murailles tombent, ces hautes et fortes murailles sur lesquelles tu auras placé ta confiance dans toute l`étendue de ton pays; elle t`assiégera dans toutes tes portes, dans tout le pays que l`Éternel, ton Dieu, te donne. |
| And your food will be the fruit of your body, the flesh of the sons and daughters which the Lord your God has given you; because of your bitter need and the cruel grip of your haters. | Au milieu de l`angoisse et de la détresse où te réduira ton ennemi, tu mangeras le fruit de tes entrailles, la chair de tes fils et de tes filles que l`Éternel, ton Dieu, t`aura donnés. |
| That man among you who is soft and used to comfort will be hard and cruel to his brother, and to his dear wife, and to of those his children who are still living; | L`homme d`entre vous le plus délicat et le plus habitué à la mollesse aura un oeil sans pitié pour son frère, pour la femme qui repose sur son sein, pour ceux de ses enfants qu`il a épargnés; |
| And will not give to any of them the flesh of his children which will be his food because he has no other; in the cruel grip of your haters on all your towns. | il ne donnera à aucun d`eux de la chair de ses enfants dont il fait sa nourriture, parce qu`il ne lui reste plus rien au milieu de l`angoisse et de la détresse où te réduira ton ennemi dans toutes tes portes. |
| The most soft and delicate of your women, who would not so much as put her foot on the earth, so delicate is she, will be hard-hearted to her husband and to her son and to her daughter; | La femme d`entre vous la plus délicate et la plus habituée à la mollesse et par délicatesse n`essayait pas de poser à terre la plante de son pied, aura un oeil sans pitié pour le mari qui repose sur son sein, pour son fils et pour sa fille; |
| And to her baby newly come to birth, and to the children of her body; for having no other food, she will make a meal of them secretly, because of her bitter need and the cruel grip of your haters on all your towns. | elle ne leur donnera rien de l`arrière-faix sorti d`entre ses pieds et des enfants qu`elle mettra au monde, car, manquant de tout, elle en fera secrètement sa nourriture au milieu de l`angoisse et de la détresse où te réduira ton ennemi dans tes portes. |
| If you will not take care to do all the words of this law, recorded in this book, honouring that name of glory and of fear, THE LORD YOUR GOD; | Si tu n`observes pas et ne mets pas en pratique toutes les paroles de cette loi, écrites dans ce livre, si tu ne crains pas ce nom glorieux et redoutable de l`Éternel, ton Dieu, |
| Then the Lord your God will make your punishment, and the punishment of your seed, a thing to be wondered at; great punishments and cruel diseases stretching on through long years. | l`Éternel te frappera miraculeusement, toi et ta postérité, par des plaies grandes et de longue durée, par des maladies graves et opiniâtres. |
| He will send on you again all the diseases of Egypt, which were a cause of fear to you, and they will take you in their grip. | Il amènera sur toi toutes les maladies d`Égypte, devant lesquelles tu tremblais; et elles s`attacheront à toi. |
| And all the diseases and the pains not recorded in the book of this law will the Lord send on you till your destruction is complete. | Et même, l`Éternel fera venir sur toi, jusqu`à ce que tu sois détruit, toutes sortes de maladies et de plaies qui ne sont point mentionnées dans le livre de cette loi. |
| And you will become a very small band, though your numbers were like the stars of heaven; because you did not give ear to the voice of the Lord your God. | Après avoir été aussi nombreux que les étoiles du ciel, vous ne resterez qu`un petit nombre, parce que tu n`auras point obéi à la voix de l`Éternel, ton Dieu. |
| And as the Lord took delight in doing you good and increasing you, so the Lord will take pleasure in cutting you off and causing your destruction, and you will be uprooted from the land which you are about to take as your heritage. | De même que l`Éternel prenait plaisir à vous faire du bien et à vous multiplier, de même l`Éternel prendra plaisir à vous faire périr et à vous détruire; et vous serez arrachés du pays dont tu vas entrer en possession. |
| And the Lord will send you wandering among all peoples, from one end of the earth to the other: there you will be servants to other gods, of wood and stone, gods of which you and your fathers had no knowledge. | L`Éternel te dispersera parmi tous les peuples, d`une extrémité de la terre à l`autre; et là, tu serviras d`autres dieux que n`ont connus ni toi, ni tes pères, du bois et de la pierre. |
| And even among these nations there will be no peace for you, and no rest for your feet: but the Lord will give you there a shaking heart and wasting eyes and weariness of soul: | Parmi ces nations, tu ne seras pas tranquille, et tu n`auras pas un lieu de repos pour la plante de tes pieds. L`Éternel rendra ton coeur agité, tes yeux languissants, ton âme souffrante. |
| Your very life will be hanging in doubt before you, and day and night will be dark with fears, and nothing in life will be certain: | Ta vie sera comme en suspens devant toi, tu trembleras la nuit et le jour, tu douteras de ton existence. |
| In the morning you will say, If only it was evening! And at evening you will say, If only morning would come! Because of the fear in your hearts and the things which your eyes will see. | Dans l`effroi qui remplira ton coeur et en présence de ce que tes yeux verront, tu diras le matin: Puisse le soir être là! et tu diras le soir: Puisse le matin être là! |
| And the Lord will take you back to Egypt again in ships, by the way of which I said to you, You will never see it again: there you will be offering yourselves as men-servants and women-servants to your haters for a price, and no man will take you. | Et l`Éternel te ramènera sur des navires en Égypte, et tu feras ce chemin dont je t`avais dit: Tu ne le reverras plus! Là, vous vous offrirez en vente à vos ennemis, comme esclaves et comme servantes; et il n`y aura personne pour vous acheter. |
