| And the word of the Lord came to me, saying, | Und des HERRN Wort geschah zu mir und sprach: |
| Son of man, let your face be turned to Jerusalem, let your words be dropped in the direction of her holy place, and be a prophet against the land of Israel; | Du Menschenkind, richte dein Angesicht wider Jerusalem und predige wider die Heiligtümer und weissage wider das Land Israel |
| And say to the land of Israel, These are the words of the Lord: See, I am against you, and I will take my sword out of its cover, cutting off from you the upright and the evil. | und sprich zum Lande Israel: So spricht der HERR HERR: Siehe, ich will an dich; ich will mein Schwert aus der Scheide ziehen und will in dir ausrotten beide, Gerechte und Ungerechte. |
| Because I am going to have the upright and the evil cut off from you, for this cause my sword will go out from its cover against all flesh from the south to the north: | Weil ich denn in dir Gerechte und Ungerechte ausrotte, so wird mein Schwert aus der Scheide fahren über alles Fleisch, von Mittag her bis gen Mitternacht. |
| And all flesh will see that I the Lord have taken my sword out of its cover: and it will never go back. | Und soll alles Fleisch erfahren, daß ich, der HERR, mein Schwert habe aus der Scheide gezogen; und es soll nicht wieder eingesteckt werden. |
| Make sounds of grief, son of man; with body bent and a bitter heart make sounds of grief before their eyes. | Und du, Menschenkind, sollst seufzen, bis dir die Lenden weh tun, ja, bitterlich sollst du seufzen, daß sie es sehen. |
| And when they say to you, Why are you making sounds of grief? then say, Because of the news, for it is coming: and every heart will become soft, and all hands will be feeble, and every spirit will be burning low, and all knees will be turned to water: see, it is coming and it will be done, says the Lord. | Und wenn sie zu dir sagen werden: Warum seufzest du? sollst du sagen: Um des Geschreis willen, das da kommt, vor welchem alle Herzen verzagen, und alle Hände sinken, aller Mut fallen und alle Kniee so ungewiß stehen werden wie Wasser. Siehe, es kommt und wird geschehen, spricht der HERR HERR. |
| And the word of the Lord came to me, saying, | Und des HERRN Wort geschah zu mir und sprach: |
| Son of man, say as a prophet, These are the words of the Lord: Say, A sword, a sword which has been made sharp and polished: | Du Menschenkind, weissage und sprich: So spricht der HERR: Sprich: Das Schwert, ja, das Schwert ist geschärft und gefegt. |
| It has been made sharp to give death; it is polished so that it may be like a thunder-flame: ... | Es ist geschärft, daß es schlachten soll; es ist gefegt, daß es blinken soll. O wie froh wollten wir sein, wenn er gleich alle Bäume zu Ruten machte über die bösen Kinder! |
| And I have given it to the polisher so that it may be taken in the hand: he has made the sword sharp, he has had it polished, to put it into the hand of him who gives death. | Aber er hat ein Schwert zu fegen gegeben, daß man es fassen soll; es ist geschärft und gefegt, daß man's dem Totschläger in die Hand gebe. |
| Give loud cries and make sounds of grief, O son of man: for it has come on my people, it has come on all the rulers of Israel: fear of the sword has come on my people: for this cause give signs of grief. | Schreie und heule, du Menschenkind; denn es geht über mein Volk und über alle Regenten in Israel, die dem Schwert samt meinem Volk verfallen sind. Darum schlage auf deine Lenden. |
| ... | Denn er hat sie oft gezüchtigt; was hat's geholfen? Es will der bösen Kinder Rute nicht helfen, spricht der HERR HERR. |
| So then, son of man, be a prophet, and put your hands together with a loud sound, and give two blows with the sword, and even three; it is the sword of those who are wounded, even the sword of the wounded; the great sword which goes round about them. | Und du, Menschenkind, weissage und schlage deine Hände zusammen. Denn das Schwert wird zweifach, ja dreifach kommen, ein Würgeschwert, ein Schwert großer Schlacht, das sie auch treffen wird in den Kammern, dahin sie fliehen. |
| In order that hearts may become soft, and the number of those who are falling may be increased, I have sent death by the sword against all their doors: you are made like a flame, you are polished for death. | Ich will das Schwert lassen klingen, daß die Herzen verzagen und viele fallen sollen an allen ihren Toren. Ach, wie glänzt es und haut daher zur Schlacht! |
| Be pointed to the right, to the left, wherever your edge is ordered. | Haue drein, zur Rechten und Linken, was vor dir ist! |
| And I will put my hands together with a loud sound, and I will let my wrath have rest: I the Lord have said it. | Da will ich dann mit meinen Händen darob frohlocken und meinen Zorn gehen lassen. Ich, der HERR, habe es gesagt. |
| And the word of the Lord came to me again, saying, | Und des HERRN Wort geschah zu mir und sprach: |
| And you, son of man, have two ways marked out, so that the sword of the king of Babylon may come; let the two of them come out of one land: and let there be a pillar at the top of the road: | Du Menschenkind, mache zwei Wege, durch welche kommen soll das Schwert des Königs zu Babel; sie sollen aber alle beide aus einem Lande gehen. |
| Put a pillar at the top of the road for the sword to come to Rabbah in the land of the children of Ammon, and to Judah and to Jerusalem in the middle of her. | Und stelle ein Zeichen vorn an den Weg zur Stadt, dahin es weisen soll; und mache den Weg, daß das Schwert komme gen Rabba der Kinder Ammon und nach Juda, zu der festen Stadt Jerusalem. |
| For the king of Babylon took his place at the parting of the ways, at the top of the two roads, to make use of secret arts: shaking the arrows this way and that, he put questions to the images of his gods, he took note of the inner parts of dead beasts. | Denn der König zu Babel wird sich an die Wegscheide stellen, vorn an den zwei Wegen, daß er sich wahrsagen lasse, mit den Pfeilen das Los werfe, seinen Abgott frage und schaue die Leber an. |
| At his right hand was the fate of Jerusalem, to give orders for destruction, to send up the war-cry, to put engines of war against the doors, lifting up earthworks, building walls. | Und die Wahrsagung wird auf die rechte Seite gen Jerusalem deuten, daß er solle Sturmböcke hinanführen lassen und Löcher machen und mit großem Geschrei sie überfalle und morde, und daß er Böcke führen soll wider die Tore und da Wall aufschütte und Bollwerk baue. |
| And this answer given by secret arts will seem false to those who have given their oaths and have let them be broken: but he will keep the memory of evil-doing so that they may be taken. | Aber es wird sie solches Wahrsagen falsch dünken, er schwöre, wie teuer er will. Er aber wird denken an die Missetat, daß er sie gewinne. |
| For this cause the Lord has said: Because you have made your evil-doing come to mind by the uncovering of your wrongdoing, causing your sins to be seen in all your evil-doings; because you have come to mind, you will be taken in them. | Darum spricht der HERR HERR also: Darum daß euer gedacht wird um eure Missetat und euer Ungehorsam offenbart ist, daß man eure Sünden sieht in allem eurem Tun, ja, darum daß euer gedacht wird, werdet ihr mit Gewalt gefangen werden. |
| And you, O evil one, wounded to death, O ruler of Israel, whose day has come in the time of the last punishment; | Und du, Fürst in Israel, der du verdammt und verurteilt bist, dessen Tag daherkommen wird, wenn die Missetat zum Ende gekommen ist, |
| This is what the Lord has said: Take away the holy head-dress, take off the crown: this will not be again: let that which is low be lifted up, and that which is high be made low. | so spricht der HERR HERR: Tue weg den Hut und hebe ab die Krone! Denn es wird weder Hut noch die Krone bleiben; sondern der sich erhöht hat, der soll erniedrigt werden, und der sich erniedrigt, soll erhöht werden. |
| I will let it be overturned, overturned, overturned: this will not be again till he comes whose right it is; and I will give it to him. | Ich will die Krone zunichte, zunichte, zunichte machen, bis der komme, der sie haben soll; dem will ich sie geben. |
| And you, son of man, say as a prophet, This is what the Lord has said about the children of Ammon and about their shame: Say, A sword, even a sword let loose, polished for death, to make it shining so that it may be like a flame: | Und du, Menschenkind, weissage und sprich: So spricht der HERR HERR von den Kindern Ammon und von ihrem Schmähen; und sprich: Das Schwert, das Schwert ist gezückt, daß es schlachten soll; es ist gefegt, daß es würgen soll und soll blinken, |
| Your vision is to no purpose, your use of secret arts gives a false answer, to put it on the necks of evil-doers who are wounded to death, whose day has come, in the time of the last punishment. | darum daß du falsche Gesichte dir sagen läßt und Lügen weissagen, damit du auch hingegeben wirst unter die erschlagenen Gottlosen, welchen ihr Tag kam, da die Missetat zum Ende gekommen war. |
| Go back into your cover. In the place where you were made, in the land from which you were taken, I will be your judge. | Und ob's schon wieder in die Scheide gesteckt würde, so will ich dich doch richten an dem Ort, da du geschaffen, und in dem Lande, da du geboren bist, |
| And I will let loose my burning passion on you, breathing out on you the fire of my wrath: and I will give you up into the hands of men like beasts, trained to destruction. | und will meinen Zorn über dich schütten; ich will das Feuer meines Grimmes über dich aufblasen und will dich Leuten, die brennen und verderben können, überantworten. |
| You will be food for the fire; your blood will be drained out in the land; there will be no more memory of you: for I the Lord have said it. | Du mußt dem Feuer zur Speise werden, und dein Blut muß im Lande vergossen werden, und man wird dein nicht mehr gedenken; denn ich, der HERR, habe es geredet. |
