| Then Bildad the Shuhite made answer and said, | Da antwortete Bildad von Suah und sprach: |
| How long will you say these things, and how long will the words of your mouth be like a strong wind? | Wie lange willst du solches reden und sollen die Reden deines Mundes so einen stolzen Mut haben? |
| Does God give wrong decisions? or is the Ruler of all not upright in his judging? | Meinst du, daß Gott unrecht richte oder der Allmächtige das Recht verkehre? |
| If your children have done evil against him, then their punishment is from his hand. | Haben deine Söhne vor ihm gesündigt, so hat er sie verstoßen um ihrer Missetat willen. |
| If you will make search for God with care, and put your request before the Ruler of all; | So du aber dich beizeiten zu Gott tust und zu dem Allmächtigen flehst, |
| If you are clean and upright; then he will certainly be moved to take up your cause, and will make clear your righteousness by building up your house again. | und so du rein und fromm bist, so wird er aufwachen zu dir und wird wieder aufrichten deine Wohnung um deiner Gerechtigkeit willen; |
| And though your start was small, your end will be very great. | und was du zuerst wenig gehabt hast, wird hernach gar sehr zunehmen. |
| Put the question now to the past generations, and give attention to what has been searched out by their fathers: | Denn frage die vorigen Geschlechter und merke auf das, was ihr Väter erforscht haben; |
| (For we are but of yesterday, and have no knowledge, because our days on earth are gone like a shade:) | denn wir sind von gestern her und wissen nichts; unser Leben ist ein Schatten auf Erden. |
| Will they not give you teaching, and say words of wisdom to you? | Sie werden dich's lehren und dir sagen und ihre Rede aus ihrem Herzen hervorbringen: |
| Will the river-plant come up in its pride without wet earth? will the grass get tall without water? | "Kann auch ein Rohr aufwachsen, wo es nicht feucht steht? oder Schilf wachsen ohne Wasser? |
| When it is still green, without being cut down, it becomes dry and dead before any other plant. | Sonst wenn's noch in der Blüte ist, ehe es abgehauen wird, verdorrt es vor allem Gras. |
| So is the end of all who do not keep God in mind; and the hope of the evil-doer comes to nothing: | So geht es allen denen, die Gottes vergessen; und die Hoffnung der Heuchler wird verloren sein. |
| Whose support is cut off, and whose hope is no stronger than a spider's thread. | Denn seine Zuversicht vergeht, und seine Hoffnung ist eine Spinnwebe. |
| He is looking to his family for support, but it is not there; he puts his hope in it, but it comes to nothing. | Er verläßt sich auf sein Haus, und wird doch nicht bestehen; er wird sich daran halten, aber doch nicht stehenbleiben. |
| He is full of strength before the sun, and his branches go out over his garden. | Er steht voll Saft im Sonnenschein, und seine Reiser wachsen hervor in seinem Garten. |
| His roots are twisted round the stones, forcing their way in between them. | Seine Saat steht dick bei den Quellen und sein Haus auf Steinen. |
| If he is taken away from his place, then it will say, I have not seen you. | Wenn er ihn aber verschlingt von seiner Stätte, wird sie sich gegen ihn stellen, als kennte sie ihn nicht. |
| Such is the joy of his way, and out of the dust another comes up to take his place. | Siehe, das ist die Freude seines Wesens; und aus dem Staube werden andere wachsen." |
| Truly, God will not give up him who is without sin, and will not take evil-doers by the hand. | Darum siehe, daß Gott nicht verwirft die Frommen und erhält nicht die Hand der Boshaften, |
| The time will come when your mouth will be full of laughing, and cries of joy will come from your lips. | bis daß dein Mund voll Lachens werde und deine Lippen voll Jauchzens. |
| Your haters will be clothed with shame, and the tent of the sinner will not be seen again. | Die dich aber hassen, werden zu Schanden werden, und der Gottlosen Hütte wird nicht bestehen. |
