| And the Lord came to Sarah as he had said and did to her as he had undertaken. | L’Eterno visitò Sara come avea detto; e l’Eterno fece a Sara come aveva annunziato. |
| And Sarah became with child, and gave Abraham a son when he was old, at the time named by God. | E Sara concepì e partorì un figliuolo ad Abrahamo, quand’egli era vecchio, al tempo che Dio gli avea fissato. |
| And Abraham gave to his son, to whom Sarah had given birth, the name Isaac. | E Abrahamo pose nome Isacco al figliuolo che gli era nato, che Sara gli avea partorito. |
| And when his son Isaac was eight days old, Abraham made him undergo circumcision, as God had said to him. | E Abrahamo circoncise il suo figliuolo Isacco all’età di otto giorni, come Dio gli avea comandato. |
| Now Abraham was a hundred years old when the birth of Isaac took place. | Or Abrahamo aveva cento anni, quando gli nacque il suo figliuolo Isacco. |
| And Sarah said, God has given me cause for laughing, and everyone who has news of it will be laughing with me. | E Sara disse: "Iddio m’ha dato di che ridere; chiunque l’udrà riderà con me". |
| And she said, Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would have a child at her breast? for see, I have given him a son now when he is old. | E aggiunse: "Chi avrebbe mai detto ad Abrahamo che Sara allatterebbe figliuoli? poiché io gli ho partorito un figliuolo nella sua vecchiaia". |
| And when the child was old enough to be taken from the breast, Abraham made a great feast. | Il bambino dunque crebbe e fu divezzato; e nei giorno che Isacco fu divezzato, Abrahamo fece un gran convito. |
| And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian playing with Isaac. | E Sara vide che il figliuolo partorito ad Abrahamo da Agar, l’egiziana, rideva; |
| So she said to Abraham, Send away that woman and her son: for the son of that woman is not to have a part in the heritage with my son Isaac. | allora ella disse ad Abrahamo: "Caccia via questa serva e il suo figliuolo; perché il figliuolo di questa serva non ha da essere erede col mio figliuolo, con Isacco". |
| And this was a great grief to Abraham because of his son. | E la cosa dispiacque fortemente ad Abrahamo, a motivo del suo figliuolo. |
| But God said, Let it not be a grief to you because of the boy and Hagar his mother; give ear to whatever Sarah says to you, because it is from Isaac that your seed will take its name. | Ma Dio disse ad Abrahamo: "Questo non ti dispiaccia, a motivo del fanciullo della tua serva; acconsenti a tutto quello che Sara ti dirà; poiché da Isacco uscirà la progenie che porterà il tuo nome. |
| And I will make a nation of the son of your servant-woman, because he is your seed. | Ma anche del figliuolo di questa serva io farò una nazione, perché e tua progenie". |
| And early in the morning Abraham got up, and gave Hagar some bread and a water-skin, and put the boy on her back, and sent her away: and she went, wandering in the waste land of Beer-sheba. | Abrahamo dunque si levò la mattina di buon’ora, prese del pane e un otre d’acqua, e lo diede ad Agar, mettendoglielo sulle spalle; le diede anche il fanciullo, e la mandò via. Ed essa partì e andò errando per il deserto di Beer-Sceba. |
| And when all the water in the skin was used up, she put the child down under a tree. | E quando l’acqua dell’otre venne meno, essa lasciò cadere il fanciullo sotto un arboscello. |
| And she went some distance away, about an arrow flight, and seating herself on the earth, she gave way to bitter weeping, saying, Let me not see the death of my child. | E se ne andò, e si pose a sedere dirimpetto, a distanza d’un tiro d’arco; perché diceva: "Ch’io non vegga morire il fanciullo!" E sedendo così dirimpetto, alzò la voce e pianse. |
| And the boy's cry came to the ears of God; and the angel of God said to Hagar from heaven, Hagar, why are you weeping? have no fear, for the child's cry has come to the ears of God. | E Dio udì la voce del ragazzo; e l’angelo dì Dio chiamò Agar dal cielo, e le disse: "Che hai, Agar? non temere, poiché Iddio ha udito la voce del fanciullo là dov’è. |
| Come, take your child in your arms, for I will make of him a great nation. | Lèvati, prendi il ragazzo e tienlo per la mano; perché io farò di lui una grande nazione". |
| Then God made her eyes open, and she saw a water-spring, and she got water in the skin and gave the boy a drink. | E Dio le aperse gli occhi, ed ella vide un pozzo d’acqua: e andò, empì d’acqua l’otre, e diè da bere al ragazzo. |
| And God was with the boy, and he became tall and strong, and he became a bowman, living in the waste land. | E Dio fu con lui; ed egli crebbe, abitò nel deserto, e fu tirator d’arco; |
| And while he was in the waste land of Paran, his mother got him a wife from the land of Egypt. | dimorò nel deserto di Paran, e sua madre gli prese per moglie una donna del paese d’Egitto. |
| Now at that time, Abimelech and Phicol, the captain of his army, said to Abraham, I see that God is with you in all you do. | Or avvenne in quel tempo che Abimelec, accompagnato da Picol, capo del suo esercito, parlò ad Abrahamo, dicendo: "Iddio è teco in tutto quello che fai; |
| Now, then, give me your oath, in the name of God, that you will not be false to me or to my sons after me, but that as I have been good to you, so you will be to me and to this land where you have been living. | or dunque giurami qui, nel nome di Dio, che tu non ingannerai né me, né i miei figliuoli, né i miei nipoti; ma che userai verso di me e verso il paese dove hai dimorato come forestiero, la stessa benevolenza che io ho usata verso di te". |
| And Abraham said, I will give you my oath. | E Abrahamo rispose: "Lo giuro". |
| But Abraham made a protest to Abimelech because of a water-hole which Abimelech's servants had taken by force. | E Abrahamo fece delle rimostranze ad Abimelec per cagione di un pozzo d’acqua, di cui i servi di Abimelec s’erano impadroniti per forza. |
| But Abimelech said, I have no idea who has done this thing; you never gave me word of it, and I had no knowledge of it till this day. | E Abimelec disse: "Io non so chi abbia fatto questo; tu stesso non me l’hai fatto sapere, e io non ne ho sentito parlare che oggi". |
| And Abraham took sheep and oxen and gave them to Abimelech, and the two of them made an agreement together. | E Abrahamo prese pecore e buoi e li diede ad Abimelec; e i due fecero alleanza. |
| And Abraham put seven young lambs of the flock on one side by themselves. | Poi Abrahamo mise da parte sette agnelle del gregge. |
| Then Abimelech said, What are these seven lambs which you have put on one side? | E Abimelec disse ad Abrahamo: "Che voglion dire queste sette agnelle che tu hai messe da parte?" |
| And he said, Take these seven lambs from me as a witness that I have made this water-hole. | Abrahamo rispose: "Tu accetterai dalla mia mano queste sette agnelle, affinché questo mi serva di testimonianza che io ho scavato questo pozzo". |
| So he gave that place the name Beer-sheba, because there the two of them had given their oaths. | Perciò egli chiamò quel luogo Beer-Sceba, perché ambedue vi avean fatto giuramento. |
| So they made an agreement at Beer-sheba, and Abimelech and Phicol, the captain of his army, went back to the land of the Philistines. | Così fecero alleanza a Beer-Sceba. Poi Abimelec, con Picol, capo del suo esercito, si levò, e se ne tornarono nel paese dei Filistei. |
| And Abraham, after planting a holy tree in Beer-sheba, gave worship to the name of the Lord, the Eternal God. | E Abrahamo piantò un tamarindo a Beer-Sceba, e invocò quivi il nome dell’Eterno, l’Iddio della eternità. |
| And Abraham went on living in the land of the Philistines as in a strange country. | E Abrahamo dimorò come forestiero molto tempo nel paese de’ Filistei. |
