| For in those days and in that time, when I let the fate of Judah and Jerusalem be changed, | Poiché ecco, in quei giorni, in quel tempo, quando ricondurrò dalla cattività quei di Giuda e di Gerusalemme, |
| I will get together all the nations, and make them come down into the valley of Jehoshaphat; and there I will take up with them the cause of my people and of my heritage Israel, whom they have sent wandering among the nations, and of my land which has been parted by them. | io radunerò tutte le nazioni, e le farò scendere nella valle di Giosafat; e verrò quivi in giudizio con esse, a proposito del mio popolo e d’Israele, mia eredità, ch’esse hanno disperso fra le nazioni, e del mio paese che hanno spartito fra loro. |
| And they have put the fate of my people to the decision of chance: giving a boy for the price of a loose woman and a girl for a drink of wine. | Han tirato a sorte il mio popolo; han dato un fanciullo in cambio d’una meretrice, han venduto una fanciulla per del vino, e si son messi a bere. |
| And further, what are you to me, O Tyre and Zidon and all the circle of Philistia? will you give me back any payment? and if you do, quickly and suddenly I will send it back on your head, | E anche voi, che pretendete da me, Tiro e Sidone, e voi tutte, regioni di Filistia? Volete voi darmi una retribuzione, o volete far del male contro di me? Tosto, in un attimo, io farò ricadere la vostra retribuzione sul vostro capo, |
| For you have taken my silver and my gold, putting in the houses of your gods my beautiful and pleasing things. | poiché avete preso il mio argento e il mio oro, e avete portato nei vostri templi il meglio delle mie cose preziose, |
| And the children of Judah and the children of Jerusalem you have given for a price to the sons of the Greeks, to send them far away from their land: | e avete venduto ai figliuoli degli Javaniti i figliuoli di Giuda e i figliuoli di Gerusalemme, per allontanarli dai loro confini. |
| See, I will have them moved from the place where you have sent them, and will let what you have done come back on your head; | Ecco, io li farò muovere dal luogo dove voi li avete venduti, e farò ricadere la vostra retribuzione sul vostro capo; |
| I will give your sons and your daughters into the hands of the children of Judah for a price, and they will give them for a price to the men of Sheba, a nation far off: for the Lord has said it. | e venderò i vostri figliuoli e le vostre figliuole ai figliuoli di Giuda, che li venderanno ai Sabei, nazione lontana; poiché l’Eterno ha parlato. |
| Give this out among the nations; make ready for war: get the strong men awake; let all the men of war come near, let them come up. | Proclamate questo fra le nazioni! Preparate la guerra! Fate sorgere i prodi! S’accostino, salgano tutti gli uomini di guerra! |
| Get your plough-blades hammered into swords, and your vine-knives into spears: let the feeble say, I am strong. | Fabbricate spade con i vostri vomeri, e lance con le vostre roncole! Dica il debole: "Son forte!" |
| Come quickly, all you nations round about, and get yourselves together there: make your strong ones come down, O Lord. | Affrettatevi, venite, nazioni d’ogn’intorno, e radunatevi! Là, o Eterno, fa’ scendere i tuoi prodi! |
| Let the nations be awake, and come to the valley of Jehoshaphat: for there I will be seated as judge of all the nations round about. | Si muovano e salgan le nazioni alla valle di Giosafat! Poiché là io mi assiderò a giudicar le nazioni d’ogn’intorno. |
| Put in the blade, for the grain is ready: come, get you down, for the wine-crusher is full, the vessels are overflowing; for great is their evil-doing. | Mettete la falce, poiché la mèsse è matura! Venite, calcate, poiché lo strettoio è pieno, i tini traboccano; poiché grande è la loro malvagità. |
| Masses on masses in the valley of decision! for the day of the Lord is near in the valley of decision. | Moltitudini! moltitudini! Nella valle del Giudizio! Poiché il giorno dell’Eterno è vicino, nella valle del Giudizio. |
| The sun and the moon have become dark, and the stars keep back their shining. | Il sole e la luna s’oscurano, e le stelle ritirano il loro splendore. |
| And the Lord will be thundering from Zion, and his voice will be sounding from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth will be shaking: but the Lord will be a breastplate for his people and a strong place for the children of Israel. | L’Eterno ruggirà da Sion, farà risonar la sua voce da Gerusalemme, e i cieli e la terrà saranno scossi; ma l’Eterno sarà un rifugio per il suo popolo, una fortezza per i figliuoli d’Israele. |
| And you will be certain that I am the Lord your God, living in Zion, my holy mountain: and Jerusalem will be holy, and no strange person will ever again go through her. | E voi saprete che io sono l’Eterno, il vostro Dio, che dimora in Sion, mio monte santo; e Gerusalemme sarà santa, e gli stranieri non vi passeranno più. |
| And it will come about in that day that the mountains will be dropping sweet wine, and the hills will be flowing with milk, and all the streams of Judah will be flowing with water; and a fountain will come out from the house of the Lord, watering the valley of acacia-trees. | E in quel giorno avverrà che i monti stilleranno mosto, il latte scorrerà dai colli, e l’acqua fluirà da tutti i rivi di Giuda; e dalla casa dell’Eterno sgorgherà una fonte, che irrigherà la valle di Sittim. |
| Egypt will be a waste and Edom a land of destruction, because of the evil done to the children of Judah, because they have let blood be drained out in their land without cause. | L’Egitto diventerà una desolazione, e Edom diventerà un desolato deserto a motivo della violenza fatta ai figliuoli di Giuda, sulla terra de’ quali hanno sparso sangue innocente. |
| But Judah will be peopled for ever, and Jerusalem from generation to generation. | Ma Giuda sussisterà per sempre, e Gerusalemme, d’età in età; |
| And I will send punishment for their blood, for which punishment has not been sent, for the Lord is living in Zion. | Io vendicherò il loro sangue, non lo lascerò impunito; e l’Eterno dimorerà in Sion. |
