| Truly I say to you, He who does not go through the door into the place where the sheep are kept, but gets in by some other way, is a thief and an outlaw. | In verità, in verità io vi dico che chi non entra per la porta nell’ovile delle pecore, ma vi sale da un’altra parte, esso è un ladro e un brigante. |
| He who goes in by the door is the keeper of the sheep. | Ma colui che entra per la porta è pastore delle pecore. |
| The porter lets him in; and the sheep give ear to his voice; he says over the names of the sheep, and takes them out. | A lui apre il portinaio, e le pecore ascoltano la sua voce, ed egli chiama le proprie pecore per nome e le mena fuori. |
| When he has got them all out, he goes before them, and the sheep go after him, for they have knowledge of his voice. | Quando ha messo fuori tutte le sue pecore, va innanzi a loro, e le pecore lo seguono, perché conoscono la sua voce. |
| They will not go after another who is not their keeper, but will go from him in flight, because his voice is strange to them. | Ma un estraneo non lo seguiranno; anzi, fuggiranno via da lui perché non conoscono la voce degli estranei. |
| In this Jesus was teaching them in the form of a story: but what he said was not clear to them. | Questa similitudine disse loro Gesù; ma essi non capirono di che cosa parlasse loro. |
| So Jesus said again, Truly I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. | Onde Gesù di nuovo disse loro: In verità, in verità vi dico: Io sono la porta delle pecore. |
| All who came before me are thieves and outlaws: but the sheep did not give ear to them. | Tutti quelli che son venuti prima di me, sono stati ladri e briganti; ma le pecore non li hanno ascoltati. |
| I am the door: if any man goes in through me he will have salvation, and will go in and go out, and will get food. | Io son la porta; se uno entra per me, sarà salvato, ed entrerà ed uscirà, e troverà pastura. |
| The thief comes only to take the sheep and to put them to death: he comes for their destruction: I have come so that they may have life and have it in greater measure. | Il ladro non viene se non per rubare e ammazzare e distruggere; io son venuto perché abbian la vita e l’abbiano ad esuberanza. |
| I am the good keeper of sheep: the good keeper gives his life for the sheep. | Io sono il buon pastore; il buon pastore mette la sua vita per le pecore. |
| He who is a servant, and not the keeper or the owner of the sheep, sees the wolf coming and goes in flight, away from the sheep; and the wolf comes down on them and sends them in all directions: | Il mercenario, che non è pastore, a cui non appartengono le pecore, vede venire il lupo, abbandona le pecore e si dà alla fuga, e il lupo le rapisce e disperde. |
| Because he is a servant he has no interest in the sheep. | Il mercenario si dà alla fuga perché è mercenario e non si cura delle pecore. |
| I am the good keeper; I have knowledge of my sheep, and they have knowledge of me, | Io sono il buon pastore, e conosco le mie, e le mie mi conoscono, |
| Even as the Father has knowledge of me and I of the Father; and I am giving my life for the sheep. | come il Padre mi conosce ed io conosco il Padre; e metto la mia vita per le pecore. |
| And I have other sheep which are not of this field: I will be their guide in the same way, and they will give ear to my voice, so there will be one flock and one keeper. | Ho anche delle altre pecore, che non son di quest’ovile; anche quelle io devo raccogliere, ed esse ascolteranno la mia voce, e vi sarà un solo gregge, un solo pastore. |
| For this reason am I loved by the Father, because I give up my life so that I may take it again. | Per questo mi ama il Padre; perché io depongo la mia vita, per ripigliarla poi. |
| No one takes it away from me; I give it up of myself. I have power to give it up, and I have power to take it again. These orders I have from my Father. | Nessuno me la toglie, ma la depongo da me. Io ho podestà di deporla e ho podestà di ripigliarla. Quest’ordine ho ricevuto dal Padre mio. |
| There was a division again among the Jews because of these words. | Nacque di nuovo un dissenso fra i Giudei a motivo di queste parole. |
| And a number of them said, He has an evil spirit and is out of his mind; why do you give ear to him? | E molti di loro dicevano: Egli ha un demonio ed è fuori di sé; perché l’ascoltate? |
| Others said, These are not the words of one who has an evil spirit. Is it possible for an evil spirit to make blind people see? | Altri dicevano: Queste non son parole di un indemoniato. Può un demonio aprir gli occhi a’ ciechi? |
| Then came the feast of the opening of the Temple in Jerusalem: it was winter; | In quel tempo ebbe luogo in Gerusalemme la festa della Dedicazione. Era d’inverno, |
| And Jesus was walking in the Temple, in Solomon's covered way. | e Gesù passeggiava nel tempio, sotto il portico di Salomone. |
| Then the Jews came round him, saying, how long are you going to keep us in doubt? If you are the Christ, say so clearly. | I Giudei dunque gli si fecero attorno e gli dissero: fino a quando terrai sospeso l’animo nostro? Se tu sei il Cristo, diccelo apertamente. |
| Jesus said in answer, I have said it and you have no belief: the works which I do in my Father's name, these give witness about me. | Gesù rispose loro: Ve l’ho detto, e non lo credete; le opere che fo nel nome del Padre mio, son quelle che testimoniano di me; |
| But you have no belief because you are not of my sheep. | ma voi non credete, perché non siete delle mie pecore. |
| My sheep give ear to my voice, and I have knowledge of them, and they come after me: | Le mie pecore ascoltano la mia voce, e io le conosco, ed esse mi seguono; |
| And I give them eternal life; they will never come to destruction, and no one will ever take them out of my hand. | e io do loro la vita eterna, e non periranno mai, e nessuno le rapirà dalla mia mano. |
| That which my Father has given to me has more value than all; and no one is able to take anything out of the Father's hand. | Il Padre mio che me le ha date è più grande di tutti; e nessuno può rapirle di mano al Padre. |
| I and my Father are one. | Io ed il Padre siamo uno. |
| Then the Jews took up stones again to send at him. | I Giudei presero di nuovo delle pietre per lapidarlo. |
| Jesus said to them in answer, I have let you see a number of good works from the Father; for which of those works are you stoning me? | Gesù disse loro: Molte buone opere v’ho mostrate da parte del Padre mio; per quale di queste opere mi lapidate voi? |
| This was their answer: We are not stoning you for a good work but for evil words; because being a man you make yourself God. | I Giudei gli risposero: Non ti lapidiamo per una buona opera, ma per bestemmia; e perché tu, che sei uomo, ti fai Dio. |
| In answer, Jesus said, Is there not a saying in your law, I said, You are gods? | Gesù rispose loro: Non è egli scritto nella vostra legge: Io ho detto: Voi siete dèi? |
| If he said they were gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Writings may not be broken), | Se chiama dèi coloro a’ quali la parola di Dio è stata diretta (e la Scrittura non può essere annullata), |
| Do you say of him whom the Father made holy and sent into the world, Your words are evil; because I said, I am God's Son? | come mai dite voi a colui che il Padre ha santificato e mandato nel mondo, che bestemmia, perché ho detto: Son Figliuolo di Dio? |
| If I am not doing the works of my Father, do not have belief in me; | Se non faccio le opere del Padre mio, non mi credete; |
| But if I am doing them, then have belief in the works even if you have no belief in me; so that you may see clearly and be certain that the Father is in me and I am in the Father. | ma se le faccio, anche se non credete a me, credete alle opere, affinché sappiate e riconosciate che il Padre è in me e che io sono nel padre. |
| Then again they made an attempt to take him; but he got away from them. | Essi cercavan di nuovo di pigliarlo; ma egli sfuggì loro dalle mani. |
| And he went again to the other side of the Jordan, to the place where John first gave baptism; and he was there for a time. | E Gesù se ne andò di nuovo al di là del Giordano, nel luogo dove Giovanni da principio stava battezzando; e quivi dimorò. |
| And a great number of people came to him, saying, John did no sign: but everything John said of this man was true. | E molti vennero a lui, e dicevano: Giovanni, è vero, non fece alcun miracolo; ma tutto quello che Giovanni disse di quest’uomo, era vero. |
| And a number came to have faith in him there. | E quivi molti credettero in lui. |
