| In those days again, when there was a great mass of people and they had no food, he made his disciples come to him and said to them, | In que’ giorni, essendo di nuovo la folla grandissima, e non avendo ella da mangiare, Gesù, chiamati a sé i discepoli, disse loro: |
| I have pity for these people because they have been with me now three days, and have no food; | Io ho pietà di questa moltitudine; poiché già da tre giorni sta con me e non ha da mangiare. |
| If I send them away to their houses with no food, they will be overcome by weariness on the way; and some of them have come from far. | E se li rimando a casa digiuni, verranno meno per via; e ve n’hanno alcuni che son venuti da lontano. |
| And his disciples said in answer, How will it be possible to get enough bread for these men here in a waste place? | E i suoi discepoli gli risposero: Come si potrebbe mai saziarli di pane qui, in un deserto? |
| And he put the question, How much bread have you? And they said, Seven cakes. | Ed egli domandò loro: Quanti pani avete? Essi dissero: Sette. |
| And he made the people be seated on the earth: and he took the seven cakes and, having given praise, he gave the broken bread to his disciples to put before them; and they put it before the people. | Ed egli ordinò alla folla di accomodarsi per terra; e prese i sette pani, dopo aver rese grazie, li spezzò e diede ai discepoli perché li ponessero dinanzi alla folla; ed essi li posero. |
| And they had some small fishes; and blessing them he had them put before the people in the same way. | Avevano anche alcuni pochi pescetti ed egli, fatta la benedizione, comandò di porre anche quelli dinanzi a loro. |
| And they took the food, and had enough; and they took up seven baskets full of the broken bits. | E mangiarono e furono saziati; e de’ pezzi avanzati si levarono sette panieri. |
| And there were about four thousand people: and he sent them away. | Or erano circa quattromila persone. Poi Gesù li licenziò; |
| And he got into the boat with his disciples straight away, and came into the country of Dalmanutha. | e subito, montato nella barca co’ suoi discepoli, andò dalle parti di Dalmanuta. |
| And the Pharisees came out and put questions to him, requesting from him a sign from heaven, testing him. | E i Farisei si recarono colà e si misero a disputar con lui, chiedendogli, per metterlo alla prova, un segno dal cielo. |
| And he was very sad in spirit, and said, Why is this generation looking for a sign? truly, I say to you, No sign will be given to this generation. | Ma egli, dopo aver sospirato nel suo spirito, disse: Perché questa generazione chiede un segno? In verità io vi dico: Non sarà dato alcun segno a questa generazione. |
| And he went away from them, and again got into the boat and went across to the other side. | E lasciatili, montò di nuovo nella barca e passò all’altra riva. |
| And they had taken no thought to get bread; and they had only one cake of bread with them in the boat. | Or i discepoli avevano dimenticato di prendere dei pani, e non avevano seco nella barca che un pane solo. |
| And he said to them, Take care to be on the watch against the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod. | Ed egli dava loro de’ precetti dicendo: Badate, guardatevi dal lievito de’ Farisei e dal lievito d’Erode! |
| And they said to one another, We have no bread. | Ed essi si dicevano gli uni agli altri: Egli è perché non abbiam pane. |
| And Jesus, hearing it, said to them, Why are you reasoning among yourselves because you have no bread? do you still not see, and is it still not clear to you? are your hearts so hard? | E Gesù, accortosene, disse loro: Perché ragionate voi del non aver pane? Non riflettete e non capite voi ancora? Avete il cuore indurito? |
| Having eyes, do you not see? and having ears, have you no hearing? and have you no memory? | Avendo occhi non vedete? e avendo orecchie non udite? e non avete memoria alcuna? |
| When I made a division of the five cakes of bread among the five thousand, what number of baskets full of broken bits did you take up? They said to him, Twelve. | Quand’io spezzai i cinque pani per i cinquemila, quante ceste piene di pezzi levaste? Essi dissero: Dodici. |
| And when the seven among the four thousand, what number of baskets full of broken bits did you take up? And they said to him, Seven. | E quando spezzai i sette pani per i quattromila, quanti panieri pieni levaste? |
| And he said to them, Is it still not clear to you? | Ed essi risposero: Sette. E diceva loro: Non capite ancora? |
| And they came to Beth-saida. And they took a blind man to him, requesting him to put his hands on him. | E vennero in Betsaida; e gli fu menato un cieco, e lo pregarono che lo toccasse. |
| And he took the blind man by the hand, and went with him out of the town; and when he had put water from his mouth on his eyes, and put his hands on him, he said, Do you see anything? | Ed egli, preso il cieco per la mano, lo condusse fuor dal villaggio; e sputatogli negli occhi e impostegli le mani, gli domandò: |
| And looking up, he said, I see men; I see them like trees, walking. | Vedi tu qualche cosa? Ed egli, levati gli occhi, disse: Scorgo gli uomini, perché li vedo camminare, e mi paion alberi. |
| Then again he put his hands on his eyes; and looking hard, he was able to see, and saw all things clearly. | Poi Gesù gli mise di nuovo le mani sugli occhi; ed egli riguardò e fu guarito e vedeva ogni cosa chiaramente. |
| And he sent him away to his house, saying, Do not even go into the town. | E Gesù lo rimandò a casa sua e gli disse: Non entrar neppure nel villaggio. |
| And Jesus went out, with his disciples, into the little towns round Caesarea Philippi; and on the way he put a question to his disciples, saying, Who do men say that I am? | Poi Gesù, co’ suoi discepoli, se ne andò verso le borgate di Cesare di Filippo; e cammin facendo domandò ai suoi discepoli: Chi dice la gente ch’io sia? |
| And they made answer, John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; but others, One of the prophets. | Ed essi risposero: Gli uni, Giovanni Battista: altri, Elia; ed altri, uno de’ profeti. |
| And he said to them, But who do you say I am? Peter said in answer, You are the Christ. | Ed egli domandò loro: E voi, chi dite ch’io sia? E Pietro rispose: Tu sei il Cristo. |
| And he put them under orders not to say this of him to anyone. | Ed egli vietò loro severamente di dir ciò di lui ad alcuno. |
| And teaching them, he said that the Son of man would have to undergo much, and be hated by those in authority, and the chief priests, and the scribes, and be put to death, and after three days come back from the dead. | Poi cominciò ad insegnar loro ch’era necessario che il Figliuol dell’uomo soffrisse molte cose, e fosse reietto dagli anziani e dai capi sacerdoti e dagli scribi, e fosse ucciso, e in capo a tre giorni risuscitasse. |
| And he said this openly. And Peter took him, and was protesting. | E diceva queste cose apertamente. E Pietro, trattolo da parte, prese a rimproverarlo. |
| But he, turning about, and seeing his disciples, said sharply to Peter, Get out of my way, Satan: for your mind is not on the things of God, but on the things of men. | Ma egli, rivoltosi e guardati i suoi discepoli, rimproverò Pietro dicendo: Vattene via da me, Satana! Tu non hai il senso delle cose di Dio, ma delle cose degli uomini. |
| And turning to the mass of people with his disciples, he said to them, If any man has the desire to come after me, let him give up all other desires, and take up his cross and come after me. | E chiamata a sé la folla coi suoi discepoli, disse loro: Se uno vuol venire dietro a me, rinunzi a se stesso e prenda la sua croce e mi segua. |
| Whoever has a desire to keep his life, will have it taken from him; and whoever gives up his life because of me and the good news, will keep it. | Perché chi vorrà salvare la sua vita, la perderà; ma chi perderà la sua vita per amor di me e del Vangelo, la salverà. |
| What profit has a man if he gets all the world with the loss of his life? | E che giova egli all’uomo se guadagna tutto il mondo e perde l’anima sua? |
| And what would a man give in exchange for his life? | E infatti, che darebbe l’uomo in cambio dell’anima sua? |
| Whoever has a feeling of shame because of me and my words in this false and evil generation, the Son of man will have a feeling of shame because of him, when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels. | Perché se uno si sarà vergognato di me e delle mie parole in questa generazione adultera e peccatrice, anche il Figliuol dell’uomo si vergognerà di lui quando sarà venuto nella gloria del Padre suo coi santi angeli. |
