| The designs of the heart are man's, but the answer of the tongue comes from the Lord. | All’uomo, i disegni del cuore; ma la risposta della lingua vien dall’Eterno. |
| All a man's ways are clean to himself; but the Lord puts men's spirits into his scales. | Tutte le vie dell’uomo a lui sembran pure, ma l’Eterno pesa gli spiriti. |
| Put your works into the hands of the Lord, and your purposes will be made certain. | Rimetti le cose tue nell’Eterno, e i tuoi disegni avran buona riuscita. |
| The Lord has made everything for his purpose, even the sinner for the day of evil. | L’Eterno ha fatto ogni cosa per uno scopo; anche l’empio, per il dì della sventura. |
| Everyone who has pride in his heart is disgusting to the Lord: he will certainly not go free from punishment. | Chi è altero d’animo è in abominio all’Eterno; certo è che non rimarrà impunito. |
| By mercy and good faith evil-doing is taken away: and by the fear of the Lord men are turned away from evil. | Con la bontà e con la fedeltà l’iniquità si espia, e col timor dell’Eterno si evita il male. |
| When a man's ways are pleasing to the Lord, he makes even his haters be at peace with him. | Quando l’Eterno gradisce le vie d’un uomo, riconcilia con lui anche i nemici. |
| Better is a little with righteousness, than great wealth with wrongdoing. | Meglio poco con giustizia, che grandi entrate senza equità. |
| A man may make designs for his way, but the Lord is the guide of his steps. | Il cuor dell’uomo medita la sua via, ma l’Eterno dirige i suoi passi. |
| Decision is in the lips of the king: his mouth will not go wrong in judging. | Sulle labbra del re sta una sentenza divina; quando pronunzia il giudizio la sua bocca non erra. |
| True measures and scales are the Lord's: all the weights of the bag are his work. | La stadera e le bilance giuste appartengono all’Eterno, tutti i pesi del sacchetto son opera sua. |
| Evil-doing is disgusting to kings: for the seat of the ruler is based on righteousness. | I re hanno orrore di fare il male, perché il trono è reso stabile con la giustizia. |
| Lips of righteousness are the delight of kings; and he who says what is upright is dear to him. | Le labbra giuste sono gradite ai re; essi amano chi parla rettamente. |
| The wrath of the king is like those who give news of death, but a wise man will put peace in place of it. | Ira del re vuol dire messaggeri di morte, ma l’uomo savio la placherà. |
| In the light of the king's face there is life; and his approval is like a cloud of spring rain. | La serenità del volto del re dà la vita, e il suo favore è come nube di pioggia primaverile. |
| How much better it is to get wisdom than gold! and to get knowledge is more to be desired than silver. | L’acquisto della sapienza oh quanto è migliore di quello dell’oro, e l’acquisto dell’intelligenza preferibile a quel dell’argento! |
| The highway of the upright is to be turned away from evil: he who takes care of his way will keep his soul. | La strada maestra dell’uomo retto è evitare il male; chi bada alla sua via preserva l’anima sua. |
| Pride goes before destruction, and a stiff spirit before a fall. | La superbia precede la rovina, e l’alterezza dello spirito precede la caduta. |
| Better it is to have a gentle spirit with the poor, than to take part in the rewards of war with men of pride. | Meglio esser umile di spirito coi miseri, che spartir la preda coi superbi. |
| He who gives attention to the law of right will get good; and whoever puts his faith in the Lord is happy. | Chi presta attenzione alla Parola se ne troverà bene, e beato colui che confida nell’Eterno! |
| The wise-hearted will be named men of good sense: and by pleasing words learning is increased. | Il savio di cuore è chiamato intelligente, e la dolcezza delle labbra aumenta il sapere. |
| Wisdom is a fountain of life to him who has it; but the punishment of the foolish is their foolish behaviour. | Il senno, per chi lo possiede, è fonte di vita, ma la stoltezza è il castigo degli stolti. |
| The heart of the wise man is the teacher of his mouth, and gives increased learning to his lips. | Il cuore del savio gli rende assennata la bocca, e aumenta il sapere sulle sue labbra. |
| Pleasing words are like honey, sweet to the soul and new life to the bones. | Le parole soavi sono un favo di miele: dolcezza all’anima, salute al corpo. |
| There is a way which seems straight before a man, but its end is the ways of death. | V’è tal via che all’uomo par diritta, ma finisce col menare alla morte. |
| The desire of the working man is working for him, for his need of food is driving him on. | La fame del lavoratore lavora per lui, perché la sua bocca lo stimola. |
| A good-for-nothing man is a designer of evil, and in his lips there is a burning fire. | L’uomo cattivo va scavando ad altri del male, sulle sue labbra c’è come un fuoco divorante. |
| A man of twisted purposes is a cause of fighting everywhere: and he who says evil secretly makes trouble between friends. | L’uomo perverso semina contese, e il maldicente disunisce gli amici migliori. |
| A violent man puts desire of evil into his neighbour's mind, and makes him go in a way which is not good. | L’uomo violento trascina il compagno, e lo mena per una via non buona. |
| He whose eyes are shut is a man of twisted purposes, and he who keeps his lips shut tight makes evil come about. | Chi chiude gli occhi per macchinar cose perverse, chi si morde le labbra, ha già compiuto il male. |
| The grey head is a crown of glory, if it is seen in the way of righteousness. | I capelli bianchi sono una corona d’onore; la si trova sulla via della giustizia. |
| He who is slow to be angry is better than a man of war, and he who has control over his spirit than he who takes a town. | Chi è lento all’ira val più del prode guerriero; chi padroneggia sé stesso val più di chi espugna città. |
| A thing may be put to the decision of chance, but it comes about through the Lord. | Si gettan le sorti nel grembo, ma ogni decisione vien dall’Eterno. |
