| Now when it was clear to the Lord that word had come to the ears of the Pharisees that Jesus was making more disciples than John and was giving them baptism | DE manera que como Jesús entendió que los Fariseos habían oído que Jesús hacía y bautizaba más discípulos que Juan, |
| (Though, in fact, it was his disciples who gave baptism, not Jesus himself), | (Aunque Jesús no bautizaba, sino sus discípulos), |
| He went out of Judaea into Galilee again. | Dejó á Judea, y fuése otra vez á Galilea. |
| And it was necessary for him to go through Samaria. | Y era menester que pasase por Samaria. |
| So he came to a town of Samaria which was named Sychar, near to the bit of land which Jacob gave to his son Joseph: | Vino, pues, á una ciudad de Samaria que se llamaba Sichâr, junto á la heredad que Jacob dió á José su hijo. |
| Now Jacob's fountain was there. Jesus, being tired after his journey, was resting by the fountain. It was about the sixth hour. | Y estaba allí la fuente de Jacob. Pues Jesús, cansado del camino, así se sentó á la fuente. Era como la hora de sexta. |
| A woman of Samaria came to get water, and Jesus said to her, Give me some water. | Vino una mujer de Samaria á sacar agua: y Jesús le dice: Dame de beber. |
| For his disciples had gone to the town to get food. | (Porque sus discípulos habían ido á la ciudad á comprar de comer.) |
| The woman of Samaria said to him, Why do you, a Jew, make a request for water to me, a woman of Samaria? She said this because Jews have nothing to do with the people of Samaria. | Y la mujer Samaritana le dice: ¿Cómo tú, siendo Judío, me pides á mí de beber, que soy mujer Samaritana? porque los Judíos no se tratan con los Samaritanos. |
| In answer Jesus said, If you had knowledge of what God gives freely and who it is who says to you, Give me water, you would make your prayer to him, and he would give you living water. | Respondió Jesús y díjole: Si conocieses el don de Dios, y quién es el que te dice: Dame de beber: tú pedirías de él, y él te daría agua viva. |
| The woman said to him, Sir, you have no vessel and the fountain is deep; from where will you get the living water? | La mujer le dice: Señor, no tienes con qué sacar la, y el pozo es hondo: ¿de dónde, pues, tienes el agua viva? |
| Are you greater than our father Jacob who gave us the fountain and took the water of it himself, with his children and his cattle? | ¿Eres tú mayor que nuestro padre Jacob, que nos dió este pozo, del cual él bebió, y sus hijos, y sus ganados? |
| Jesus said to her, Everyone who takes this water will be in need of it again: | Respondió Jesús y díjole: Cualquiera que bebiere de esta agua, volverá á tener sed; |
| But whoever takes the water I give him will never be in need of drink again; for the water I give him will become in him a fountain of eternal life. | Mas el que bebiere del agua que yo le daré, para siempre no tendrá sed: mas el agua que yo le daré, será en él una fuente de agua que salte para vida eterna. |
| The woman said to him, Sir, give me this water, so that I may not be in need again of drink and will not have to come all this way for it. | La mujer le dice: Señor, dame esta agua, para que no tenga sed, ni venga acá á sacar la. |
| Jesus said to her, Go, get your husband and come back here with him. | Jesús le dice: Ve, llama á tu marido, y ven acá. |
| In answer, the woman said, I have no husband. Jesus said to her, You have said rightly, I have no husband: | Respondió la mujer, y dijo: No tengo marido. Dícele Jesús: Bien has dicho, No tengo marido; |
| You have had five husbands, and the man you have now is not your husband: that was truly said. | Porque cinco maridos has tenido: y el que ahora tienes no es tu marido; esto has dicho con verdad. |
| The woman said to him, Sir, I see that you are a prophet. | Dícele la mujer: Señor, paréceme que tú eres profeta. |
| Our fathers gave worship on this mountain, but you Jews say that the right place for worship is in Jerusalem. | Nuestros padres adoraron en este monte, y vosotros decís que en Jerusalem es el lugar donde es necesario adorar. |
| Jesus said to her, Woman, take my word for this; the time is coming when you will not give worship to the Father on this mountain or in Jerusalem. | Dícele Jesús: Mujer, créeme, que la hora viene, cuando ni en este monte, ni en Jerusalem adoraréis al Padre. |
| You give worship, but without knowledge of what you are worshipping: we give worship to what we have knowledge of: for salvation comes from the Jews. | Vosotros adoráis lo que no sabéis; nosotros adoramos lo que sabemos: porque la salud viene de los Judíos. |
| But the time is coming, and is even now here, when the true worshippers will give worship to the Father in the true way of the spirit, for these are the worshippers desired by the Father. | Mas la hora viene, y ahora es, cuando los verdaderos adoradores adorarán al Padre en espíritu y en verdad; porque también el Padre tales adoradores busca que adoren. |
| God is Spirit: then let his worshippers give him worship in the true way of the spirit. | Dios es Espíritu; y los que le adoran, en espíritu y en verdad es necesario que adoren. |
| The woman said to him, I am certain that the Messiah, who is named Christ, is coming; when he comes he will make all things clear to us. | Dícele la mujer: Sé que el Mesías ha de venir, el cual se dice el Cristo: cuando él viniere nos declarará todas las cosas. |
| Jesus said to her, I, who am talking to you, am he. | Dícele Jesús: Yo soy, que hablo contigo. |
| At that point the disciples came back, and they were surprised to see him talking to a woman; but not one of them said to him, What is your purpose? or, Why are you talking to her? | Y en esto vinieron sus discípulos, y maravilláronse de que hablaba con mujer; mas ninguno dijo: ¿Qué preguntas? ó, ¿Qué hablas con ella? |
| Then the woman put down her water-pot and went into the town, and said to the people, | Entonces la mujer dejó su cántaro, y fué á la ciudad, y dijo á aquellos hombres: |
| Come and see a man who has been talking to me of everything I ever did! Is it possible that this is the Christ? | Venid, ved un hombre que me ha dicho todo lo que he hecho: ¿si quizás es éste el Cristo? |
| So they went out of the town and came to him. | Entonces salieron de la ciudad, y vinieron á él. |
| While this was taking place, the disciples were saying to Jesus, Master, take some food. | Entre tanto los discípulos le rogaban, diciendo: Rabbí, come. |
| But he said to them, I have food of which you have no knowledge. | Y él les dijo: Yo tengo una comida que comer, que vosotros no sabéis. |
| So the disciples said one to another, Did anyone give him food? | Entonces los discípulos decían el uno al otro: ¿Si le habrá traído alguien de comer? |
| Jesus said, My food is to do the pleasure of him who sent me and to make his work complete. | Díceles Jesús: Mi comida es que haga la voluntad del que me envió, y que acabe su obra. |
| You would say, Four months from now is the time of the grain-cutting. Take a look, I say to you, at the fields; they are even now white for cutting. | ¿No decís vosotros: Aun hay cuatro meses hasta que llegue la siega? He aquí os digo: Alzad vuestros ojos, y mirad las regiones, porque ya están blancas para la siega. |
| He who does the cutting now has his reward; he is getting together fruit for eternal life, so that he who did the planting and he who gets in the grain may have joy together. | Y el que siega, recibe salario, y allega fruto para vida eterna; para que el que siembra también goce, y el que siega. |
| In this the saying is a true one, One does the planting, and another gets in the grain. | Porque en esto es el dicho verdadero: Que uno es el que siembra, y otro es el que siega. |
| I sent you to get in grain which you had no hand in planting: other men did that work, and you take the reward. | Yo os he enviado á segar lo que vosotros no labrasteis: otros labraron, y vosotros habéis entrado en sus labores. |
| Now a number of the people of that town had faith in him because of the woman's witness: He has been talking to me of everything I ever did. | Y muchos de los Samaritanos de aquella ciudad creyeron en él por la palabra de la mujer, que daba testimonio, diciendo: Que me dijo todo lo que he hecho. |
| So when the people came to him they made request to him to be among them for a time, and he was there two days. | Viniendo pues los Samaritanos á él, rogáronle que se quedase allí: y se quedó allí dos días. |
| And a great number more of them came to have faith in him because of what he himself said. | Y creyeron muchos más por la palabra de él. |
| And they said to the woman, Now we have faith, but not because of your story: we ourselves have given ear to his words, and we are certain that he is truly the Saviour of the world. | Y decían á la mujer: Ya no creemos por tu dicho; porque nosotros mismos hemos oído, y sabemos que verdaderamente éste es el Salvador del mundo, el Cristo. |
| And after the two days he went on from there into Galilee. | Y dos días después, salió de allí, y fuése á Galilea. |
| For Jesus himself said that a prophet has no honour in the country of his birth. | Porque el mismo Jesús dió testimonio de que el profeta en su tierra no tiene honra. |
| So when he came into Galilee, the Galilaeans took him to their hearts because of the things which they had seen him do in Jerusalem at the feast--they themselves having been there at the feast. | Y como vino á Galilea, los Galileos le recibieron, vistas todas las cosas que había hecho en Jerusalem en el día de la fiesta: porque también ellos habían ido á la fiesta. |
| So he came to Cana in Galilee, where he had made the water wine. And there was a certain man of high position whose son was ill at Capernaum. | Vino pues Jesús otra vez á Caná de Galilea, donde había hecho el vino del agua. Y había en Capernaum uno del rey, cuyo hijo estaba enfermo. |
| When it came to his ears that Jesus had come from Judaea into Galilee, he went to him and made a request that he would come down to his son, who was near to death, and make him well. | Este, como oyó que Jesús venía de Judea á Galilea, fué á él, y rogábale que descendiese, y sanase á su hijo, porque se comenzaba á morir. |
| Then Jesus said to him, You will not have faith if you do not see signs and wonders. | Entonces Jesús le dijo: Si no viereis señales y milagros no creeréis. |
| The man said, Sir, come down before my boy is dead. | El del rey le dijo: Señor, desciende antes que mi hijo muera. |
| And Jesus said, Go in peace; your son is living. The man had faith in the word which Jesus said to him and went away. | Dícele Jesús: Ve, tu hijo vive. Y el hombre creyó á la palabra que Jesús le dijo, y se fué. |
| And while he was going down, his servants came to him and said, Your boy is living. | Y cuando ya él descendía, los siervos le salieron á recibir, y le dieron nuevas, diciendo: Tu hijo vive. |
| So he put a question to them as to the hour when he became better; and they said to him, The disease went from him yesterday at the seventh hour. | Entonces él les preguntó á qué hora comenzó á estar mejor. Y dijéronle: Ayer á las siete le dejó la fiebre. |
| It was clear then to the father that this was the very time at which Jesus said to him, Your son is living. And he had faith in Jesus, he and all his family. | El padre entonces entendió, que aquella hora era cuando Jesús le dijo: Tu hijo vive; y creyó él y toda su casa. |
| Now this is the second sign which Jesus did after he had come out of Judaea into Galilee. | Esta segunda señal volvió Jesús á hacer, cuando vino de Judea á Galilea. |
