| Now when it came to the ears of Adoni-zedek, king of Jerusalem, that Joshua had taken Ai, and had given it up to the curse (for as he had done to Jericho and its king, so he had done to Ai and its king); and that the people of Gibeon had made peace with Israel and were living among them; | Y Como Adonisedec rey de Jerusalem oyó que Josué había tomado á Hai, y que la habían asolado, (como había hecho á Jericó y á su rey, así hizo á Hai y á su rey;) y que los moradores de Gabaón habían hecho paz con los Israelitas, y que estaban entre ellos; |
| He was in great fear, because Gibeon was a great town, like one of the king's towns, greater than Ai, and all the men in it were men of war. | Tuvieron muy gran temor; porque Gabaón era una gran ciudad, como una de las ciudades reales, y mayor que Hai, y todos sus hombres fuertes. |
| So Adoni-zedek, king of Jerusalem, sent to Hoham, king of Hebron, and to Piram, king of Jarmuth, and to Japhia, king of Lachish, and to Debir, king of Eglon, saying, | Envió pues á decir Adonisedec rey de Jerusalem, á Oham rey de Hebrón, y á Phiream rey de Jerimoth, y á Japhia rey de Lachîs, y á Debir rey de Eglón: |
| Come up to me and give me help, and let us make an attack on Gibeon: for they have made peace with Joshua and the children of Israel. | Subid á mí, y ayudadme, y combatamos á Gabaón: porque ha hecho paz con Josué y con los hijos de Israel. |
| So the five kings of the Amorites, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, and the king of Eglon, were banded together, and went up with all their armies and took up their position before Gibeon and made war against it. | Y cinco reyes de los Amorrheos, el rey de Jerusalem, el rey de Hebrón, el rey de Jerimoth, el rey de Lachîs, el rey de Eglón, se juntaron y subieron, ellos con todos sus ejércitos, y asentaron campo sobre Gabaón, y pelearon contra ella. |
| And the men of Gibeon sent to Joshua to the tent-circle at Gilgal, saying, Be not slow to send help to your servants; come up quickly to our support and keep us safe: for all the kings of the Amorites from the hill-country have come together against us. | Y los moradores de Gabaón enviaron á decir á Josué al campo en Gilgal: No encojas tus manos de tus siervos; sube prestamente á nosotros para guardarnos y ayudarnos: porque todos los reyes de los Amorrheos que habitan en las montañas, se han juntado contra nosotros. |
| So Joshua went up from Gilgal with all his army and all his men of war. | Y subió Josué de Gilgal, él y todo el pueblo de guerra con él, y todos los hombres valientes. |
| And the Lord said to Joshua, Have no fear of them, for I have given them into your hands; they will all give way before you. | Y Jehová dijo á Josué: No tengas temor de ellos: porque yo los he entregado en tu mano, y ninguno de ellos parará delante de ti. |
| So Joshua, having come up from Gilgal all night, made a sudden attack on them. | Y Josué vino á ellos de repente, toda la noche subió desde Gilgal. |
| And the Lord made them full of fear before Israel, and they put great numbers of them to death at Gibeon, and went after them by the way going up to Beth-horon, driving them back to Azekah and Makkedah | Y Jehová los turbó delante de Israel, é hiriólos con gran mortandad en Gabaón: y siguiólos por el camino que sube á Beth-oron, é hiriólos hasta Azeca y Maceda. |
| And in their flight before Israel, on the way down from Beth-horon, the Lord sent down great stones from heaven on them all the way to Azekah, causing their death: those whose death was caused by the stones were more than those whom the children of Israel put to death with the sword. | Y como iban huyendo de los Israelitas, á la bajada de Beth-oron, Jehová echó sobre ellos del cielo grandes piedras hasta Azeca, y murieron: muchos más murieron de las piedras del granizo, que los que los hijos de Israel habían muerto á cuchillo. |
| It was on the day when the Lord gave up the Amorites into the hands of the children of Israel that Joshua said to the Lord, before the eyes of Israel, Sun, be at rest over Gibeon; and you, O moon, in the valley of Aijalon. | Entonces Josué habló á Jehová el día que Jehová entregó al Amorrheo delante de los hijos de Israel, y dijo en presencia de los Israelitas: Sol, detente en Gabaón; Y tú, Luna, en el valle de Ajalón. |
| And the sun was at rest and the moon kept its place till the nation had given punishment to their attackers. (Is it not recorded in the book of Jashar?) So the sun kept its place in the middle of the heavens, and was waiting, and did not go down, for the space of a day. | Y el sol se detuvo y la luna se paró, Hasta tanto que la gente se hubo vengado de sus enemigos. ¿No está aquesto escrito en el libro de Jasher? Y el sol se paró en medio del cielo, y no se apresuró á ponerse casi un día entero. |
| And there was no day like that, before it or after it, when the Lord gave ear to the voice of a man; for the Lord was fighting for Israel. | Y nunca fué tal día antes ni después de aquél, habiendo atendido Jehová á la voz de un hombre: porque Jehová peleaba por Israel. |
| And Joshua, with all Israel, went back to the tent-circle at Gilgal. | Y Josué, y todo Israel con él, volvíase al campo en Gilgal. |
| But these five kings went in flight secretly to a hole in the rock at Makkedah. | Pero los cinco reyes huyeron, y se escondieron en una cueva en Maceda. |
| And word was given to Joshua that the five kings had been taken in a hole in the rock at Makkedah. | Y fué dicho á Josué que los cinco reyes habían sido hallados en una cueva en Maceda. |
| And Joshua said, Let great stones be rolled against the mouth of the hole, and let men keep watch by it: | Entonces Josué dijo: Rodad grandes piedras á la boca de la cueva, y poned hombres junto á ella que los guarden; |
| But do you, without waiting, go after their army, attacking them from the back; do not let them get into their towns, for the Lord your God has given them into your hands. | Y vosotros no os paréis, sino seguid á vuestros enemigos, y heridles la retaguardia, sin dejarles entrar en sus ciudades; porque Jehová vuestro Dios los ha entregado en vuestra mano. |
| Now when Joshua and the children of Israel had come to the end of their war of complete destruction, and had put to death all but a small band who had got safely into the walled towns, | Y aconteció que como Josué y los hijos de Israel hubieron acabado de herirlos con mortandad muy grande, hasta destruirlos, los que quedaron de ellos se metieron en las ciudades fuertes. |
| All the people went back to Joshua to the tent-circle at Makkedah in peace: and no one said a word against the children of Israel. | Y todo el pueblo se volvió salvo al campo á Josué en Maceda; que no hubo quien moviese su lengua contra los hijos de Israel. |
| Then Joshua said, Take away the stones from the mouth of the hole in the rock, and make those five kings come out to me. | Entonces dijo Josué: Abrid la boca de la cueva, y sacadme de ella á estos cinco reyes. |
| And they did so, and made those five kings come out of the hole to him, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, and the king of Eglon. | E hiciéronlo así, y sacáronle de la cueva aquellos cinco reyes: al rey de Jerusalem, al rey de Hebrón, al rey de Jerimoth, al rey de Lachîs, al rey de Eglón. |
| And when they had made those kings come out to Joshua, Joshua sent for all the men of Israel, and said to the chiefs of the men of war who had gone with him, Come near and put your feet on the necks of these kings. So they came near and put their feet on their necks. | Y cuando hubieron sacado estos reyes á Josué, llamó Josué á todos los varones de Israel, y dijo á los principales de la gente de guerra que habían venido con él: Llegad y poned vuestros pies sobre los pescuezos de aquestos reyes. Y ellos se llegaron, y pusieron sus pies sobre los pescuezos de ellos. |
| And Joshua said to them, Have no fear and do not be troubled; be strong and take heart: for so will the Lord do to all against whom you make war. | Y Josué les dijo: No temáis, ni os atemoricéis; sed fuertes y valientes: porque así hará Jehová á todos vuestros enemigos contra los cuales peleáis. |
| Then Joshua had them put to death, hanging them on five trees, where they were till evening. | Y después de esto Josué los hirió y los mató, é hízolos colgar en cinco maderos: y quedaron colgados en los maderos hasta la tarde. |
| And when the sun went down, they were taken down from the trees, by Joshua's orders, and put into the hole where they had gone to be safe; and great stones were placed at the mouth of the hole, where they are to this day. | Y cuando el sol se iba á poner, mandó Josué que los quitasen de los maderos, y los echasen en la cueva donde se habían escondido: y pusieron grandes piedras á la boca de la cueva, hasta hoy. |
| That day Joshua took Makkedah, and put it and its king to the sword; every soul in it he gave up to the curse without mercy: and he did to the king of Makkedah as he had done to the king of Jericho. | En aquel mismo día tomó Josué á Maceda, y la puso á cuchillo, y mató á su rey; á ellos y á todo lo que en ella tenía vida, sin quedar nada: mas al rey de Maceda hizo como había hecho al rey de Jericó. |
| Then Joshua and all Israel with him went on from Makkedah and came to Libnah, and made an attack on it; | Y de Maceda pasó Josué, y todo Israel con él, á Libna; y peleó contra Libna: |
| And again the Lord gave it and its king into the hands of Israel; and he put it and every person in it to the sword, till their destruction was complete; and he did to its king as he had done to the king of Jericho. | Y Jehová la entregó también á ella, y á su rey, en manos de Israel; y metióla á filo de espada, con todo lo que en ella había vivo, sin quedar nada: mas á su rey hizo de la manera que había hecho al rey de Jericó. |
| Then Joshua and all Israel with him went on from Libnah to Lachish, and took up their position against it and made an attack on it, | Y Josué, y todo Israel con él, pasó de Libna á Lachîs, y puso campo contra ella, y combatióla: |
| And the Lord gave Lachish into the hands of Israel, and on the second day he took it, putting it and every person in it to the sword without mercy, as he had done to Libnah. | Y Jehová entregó á Lachîs en mano de Israel, y tomóla al día siguiente, y metióla á cuchillo, con todo lo que en ella había vivo, como había hecho en Libna. |
| Then Horam, king of Gezer, came up to the help of Lachish; and Joshua overcame him and his people, putting all of them to death. | Entonces Horam, rey de Gezer, subió en ayuda de Lachîs; mas á él y á su pueblo hirió Josué, hasta no quedar ninguno de ellos. |
| And Joshua and all Israel with him went on from Lachish to Eglon: and they took up their position against it and made an attack on it; | De Lachîs pasó Josué, y todo Israel con él, á Eglón: y pusieron campo contra ella, y combatiéronla: |
| And that day they took it, putting it and every person in it to the sword, as he had done to Lachish. | Y la tomaron el mismo día, y metiéronla á cuchillo; y aquel día mató á todo lo que en ella había vivo, como había hecho en Lachîs. |
| And Joshua and all Israel with him went up from Eglon to Hebron, and made an attack on it; | Subió luego Josué, y todo Israel con él, de Eglón á Hebrón, y combatiéronla; |
| And took it, overcoming it and putting it and its king and its towns and every person in it to the sword: as he had done to Eglon, he put them all to death, and gave it up to the curse with every person in it. | Y tomándola, la metieron á cuchillo, á su rey y á todas su ciudades, con todo lo que en ella había vivo, sin quedar nada: como habían hecho á Eglón, así la destruyeron con todo lo que en ella había vivo. |
| And Joshua and all Israel with him went on to make an attack on Debir; | Y volviéndose Josué, y todo Israel con él, sobre Debir, combatióla; |
| And he took it, with its king and all its towns: and he put them to the sword, giving every person in it to the curse; all were put to death: as he had done to Hebron, so he did to Debir and its king. | Y tomóla, y á su rey, y á todas sus villas; y metiéronlos á cuchillo, y destruyeron todo lo que allí dentro había vivo, sin quedar nada; como había hecho á Hebrón, así hizo á Debir y á su rey; y como había hecho á Libna y á su rey. |
| So Joshua overcame all the land, the hill-country and the South and the lowland and the mountain slopes, and all their kings; all were put to death: and every living thing he gave up to the curse, as the Lord, the God of Israel, had given him orders. | Hirió pues Josué toda la región de las montañas, y del mediodía, y de los llanos, y de las cuestas, y á todos sus reyes, sin quedar nada; todo lo que tenía vida mató, al modo que Jehová Dios de Israel lo había mandado. |
| Joshua overcame them from Kadesh-barnea to Gaza, and all the land of Goshen as far as Gibeon. | E hiriólos Josué desde Cades-barnea hasta Gaza, y toda la tierra de Gosén hasta Gabaón. |
| And all these kings and their land Joshua took at the same time, because the Lord, the God of Israel, was fighting for Israel. | Todos estos reyes y sus tierras tomó Josué de una vez; porque Jehová el Dios de Israel peleaba por Israel. |
| Then Joshua and all Israel with him went back to their tents at Gilgal. | Y tornóse Josué, y todo Israel con él, al campo en Gilgal. |
