|
My son, keep my sayings, and let my rules be stored up with you. | HIJO mío, guarda mis razones, Y encierra contigo mis mandamientos. |
Keep my rules and you will have life; let my teaching be to you as the light of your eyes; | Guarda mis mandamientos, y vivirás; Y mi ley como las niñas de tus ojos. |
Let them be fixed to your fingers, and recorded in your heart. | Lígalos á tus dedos; Escríbelos en la tabla de tu corazón. |
Say to wisdom, You are my sister; let knowledge be named your special friend: | Di á la sabiduría: Tú eres mi hermana; Y á la inteligencia llama parienta: |
So that they may keep you from the strange woman, even from her whose words are smooth. | Para que te guarden de la mujer ajena, Y de la extraña que ablanda sus palabras. |
Looking out from my house, and watching through the window, | Porque mirando yo por la ventana de mi casa, Por mi celosía, |
I saw among the young men one without sense, | Vi entre los simples, Consideré entre los jóvenes, Un mancebo falto de entendimiento, |
Walking in the street near the turn of her road, going on the way to her house, | El cual pasaba por la calle, junto á la esquina de aquella, E iba camino de su casa, |
At nightfall, in the evening of the day, in the black dark of the night. | A la tarde del día, ya que oscurecía, En la oscuridad y tiniebla de la noche. |
And the woman came out to him, in the dress of a loose woman, with a designing heart; | Y he aquí, una mujer que le sale al encuentro Con atavío de ramera, astuta de corazón, |
She is full of noise and uncontrolled; her feet keep not in her house. | Alborotadora y rencillosa, Sus pies no pueden estar en casa; |
Now she is in the street, now in the open spaces, waiting at every turning of the road. | Unas veces de fuera, ó bien por las plazas, Acechando por todas las esquinas. |
So she took him by his hand, kissing him, and without a sign of shame she said to him: | Y traba de él, y bésalo; Desvergonzó su rostro, y díjole: |
I have a feast of peace-offerings, for today my oaths have been effected. | Sacrificios de paz había prometido, Hoy he pagado mis votos; |
So I came out in the hope of meeting you, looking for you with care, and now I have you. | Por tanto he salido á encontrarte, Buscando diligentemente tu rostro, y te he hallado. |
My bed is covered with cushions of needlework, with coloured cloths of the cotton thread of Egypt; | Con paramentos he ataviado mi cama, Recamados con cordoncillo de Egipto. |
I have made my bed sweet with perfumes and spices. | He sahumado mi cámara Con mirra, áloes, y cinamomo. |
Come, let us take our pleasure in love till the morning, having joy in love's delights. | Ven, embriaguémonos de amores hasta la mañana; Alegrémonos en amores. |
For the master of the house is away on a long journey: | Porque el marido no está en casa, Hase ido á un largo viaje: |
He has taken a bag of money with him; he is coming back at the full moon. | El saco de dinero llevó en su mano; El día señalado volverá á su casa. |
With her fair words she overcame him, forcing him with her smooth lips. | Rindiólo con la mucha suavidad de sus palabras, Obligóle con la blandura de sus labios. |
The simple man goes after her, like an ox going to its death, like a roe pulled by a cord; | Vase en pos de ella luego, Como va el buey al degolladero, Y como el loco á las prisiones para ser castigado; |
Like a bird falling into a net; with no thought that his life is in danger, till an arrow goes into his side. | Como el ave que se apresura al lazo, Y no sabe que es contra su vida, Hasta que la saeta traspasó su hígado. |
So now, my sons, give ear to me; give attention to the sayings of my mouth; | Ahora pues, hijos, oidme, Y estad atentos á las razones de mi boca. |
Let not your heart be turned to her ways, do not go wandering in her footsteps. | No se aparte á sus caminos tu corazón; No yerres en sus veredas. |
For those wounded and made low by her are great in number; and all those who have come to their death through her are a great army. | Porque á muchos ha hecho caer heridos; Y aun los más fuertes han sido muertos por ella. |
Her house is the way to the underworld, going down to the rooms of death. | Caminos del sepulcro son su casa, Que descienden á las cámaras de la muerte. |
