| And Abraham took another wife named Keturah. | Ap-ra-ham cưới một người vợ khác, tên là Kê-tu-ra. |
| She became the mother of Zimran and Jokshan and Medan and Midian and Ishbak and Shuah. | Người sanh cho Ap-ra-ham Xim-ram, Giốc-chan, Mê-đan, Ma-đi-an, Dích-bác và Su-ách. |
| And Jokshan became the father of Sheba and Dedan. And from Dedan came the Asshurim and Letushim and Leummim. | Giốc-chan sanh Sê-ba và Đê-đan; con cháu của Đê-đan là họ A-chu-rim, họ Lê-tu-chim và họ Lê-um-mim. |
| And from Midian came Ephah and Epher and Hanoch and Abida and Eldaah. All these were the offspring of Keturah. | Con trai của Ma-đi-an là Ê-pha, Ê-phe, Ha-nóc, A-bi-đa và En-đa. Các người trên đây đều là dòng dõi của Kê-tu-ra. |
| Now Abraham gave all his property to Isaac; | Ap-ra-ham cho Y-sác hết thảy gia tài mình; còn cho các con dòng thứ những tiền của; |
| But to the sons of his other women he gave offerings, and sent them away, while he was still living, into the east country. | rồi, khi còn sống, người sai họ qua đông phương mà ở, cách xa con dòng chánh, là Y-sác. |
| Now the years of Abraham's life were a hundred and seventy-five. | Ap-ra-ham hưởng thọ được một trăm bảy mươi lăm tuổi; |
| And Abraham came to his death, an old man, full of years; and he was put to rest with his people. | người tuổi cao tác lớn và đã thỏa về đời mình, tắt hơi, được qui về nơi tổ tông. |
| And Isaac and Ishmael, his sons, put him to rest in the hollow rock of Machpelah, in the field of Ephron, the son of Zohar the Hittite, near Mamre; | Hai con trai người, Y-sác và Ích-ma-ên, chôn người trong hang đá Mặc-bê-la tại nơi đồng của Ep-rôn, con trai Sô-ha, người Hê-tít, nằm ngang Mam-rê. |
| The same field which Abraham got from the children of Heth: there Abraham was put to rest with Sarah, his wife. | Ay là cái đồng mà lúc trước Ap-ra-ham mua lại của dân họ Hếch; nơi đó họ chôn Ap-ra-ham cùng Sa-ra, vợ người. |
| Now after the death of Abraham, the blessing of God was with Isaac, his son. | Sau khi Ap-ra-ham qua đời, Đức Giê-hô-va ban phước cho Y-sác con trai người. Y-sác ở gần bên cái giếng La-chai-Roi. |
| Now these are the generations of Ishmael, the son of Abraham, whose mother was Hagar the Egyptian, the servant of Sarah: | Đây là dòng dõi của Ích-ma-ên, con trai của Ap-ra-ham, do nơi nàng A-ga, người Ê-díp-tô, con đòi của Sa-ra, đã sanh. |
| These are the names of the sons of Ishmael by their generations: Ishmael's first son was Nebaioth; then Kedar and Adbeel and Mibsam | Và đây là trên các con trai của Ích-ma-ên, sắp thứ tự theo ngày ra đời: Con trưởng nam của Ích-ma-ên là Nê-ba-giốt; kế sau Kê-đa, At-bê-ên, Mi-bô-sam, |
| And Mishma and Dumah and Massa, | Mích-ma, Đu-ma, Ma-sa, |
| Hadad and Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah: | Ha-đa, Thê-ma, Giê-thu, Na-phích, và Kết-ma. |
| These are the sons of Ishmael, and these are their names in their towns and their tent-circles; twelve chiefs with their peoples. | Đó là các con trai của Ích-ma-ên và tên của họ tùy theo làng và nơi đóng trại mà đặt. Ay là mười hai vị công hầu trong dân tộc của họ. |
| And the years of Ishmael's life were a hundred and thirty-seven: and he came to his end, and was put to rest with his people. | Ích-ma-ên hưởng thọ được một trăm ba mươi bảy tuổi, rồi tắt hơi mà qua đời, được qui về nơi tổ tông. |
| And their country was from Havilah to Shur which is east of Egypt: they took their place to the east of all their brothers. | Dòng dõi người ở trước mặt anh em mình, từ Ha-vi-la cho đến Xu-xơ, đối ngang Ê-díp-tô, chạy qua A-si-ri. |
| Now these are the generations of Abraham's son Isaac: | Đây là dòng dõi của Y-sác, con trai Ap-ra-ham. Ap-ra-ham sanh Y-sác. |
| Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah, the daughter of Bethuel the Aramaean of Paddan-aram, and the sister of Laban the Aramaean, to be his wife. | Vả, khi Y-sác được bốn mươi tuổi, thì cưới Rê-be-ca, con gái của Bê-tu-ên và em gái của La-ban, đều là dân A-ram, ở tại xứ Pha-đan -A-ram. |
| Isaac made prayer to the Lord for his wife because she had no children; and the Lord gave ear to his prayer, and Rebekah became with child. | Y-sác khẩn cầu Đức Giê-hô-va cho vợ mình, vì nàng son sẻ. Đức Giê-hô-va cảm động lời khẩn cầu đó, nên cho Rê-be-ca thọ thai. |
| And the children were fighting together inside her, and she said, If it is to be so, why am I like this? So she went to put her question to the Lord. | Nhưng vì thai đôi làm cho đụng nhau trong bụng, thì nàng nói rằng: Nếu quả thật vậy, cớ sao đều nầy xảy đến làm chi? Đoạn nàng đi hỏi Đức Giê-hô-va. |
| And the Lord said to her, Two nations are in your body, and two peoples will come to birth from you: the one will be stronger than the other, and the older will be the servant of the younger. | Đức Giê-hô-va phán rằng: Hai nước hiện ở trong bụng ngươi, và hai thứ dân sẽ do lòng ngươi mà ra; dân nầy mạnh hơn dân kia, và đứa lớn phải phục đứa nhỏ. |
| And when the time came for her to give birth, there were two children in her body. | Đến ngày nàng phải sanh nở, nầy hai đứa sanh đôi trong bụng nàng ra. |
| And the first came out red from head to foot like a robe of hair, and they gave him the name of Esau. | Đứa ra trước đỏ hồng, lông cùng mình như một áo tơi lông; đặt tên là Ê-sau. |
| And after him, his brother came out, gripping Esau's foot; and he was named Jacob: Isaac was sixty years old when she gave birth to them. | Kế em nó lại ra sau, tay nắm lấy gót Ê-sau; nên đặt tên là Gia-cốp. Khi sanh hai đứa con nầy thì Y-sác đã được sáu mươi tuổi. |
| And the boys came to full growth; and Esau became a man of the open country, an expert bowman; but Jacob was a quiet man, living in tents. | Khi hai đứa trai nầy lớn lên, thì Ê-sau trở nên một thợ săn giỏi, thường giong ruổi nơi đồng ruộng; còn Gia-cốp là người hiền lành cứ ở lại trại. |
| Now Isaac's love was for Esau, because Esau's meat was greatly to his taste: but Rebekah had more love for Jacob. | Y-sác yêu Ê-sau, vì người có tánh ưa ăn thịt rừng; nhưng Rê-be-ca lại yêu Gia-cốp. |
| And one day Jacob was cooking some soup when Esau came in from the fields in great need of food; | Một ngày kia, Gia-cốp đương nấu canh, Ê-sau ở ngoài đồng về lấy làm mệt mỏi lắm; |
| And Esau said to Jacob, Give me a full meal of that red soup, for I am overcome with need for food: for this reason he was named Edom. | liền nói cùng Gia-cốp rằng: Em hãy cho anh ăn canh gì đỏ đó với, vì anh mệt mỏi lắm. Bởi cớ ấy, người ta gọi Ê-sau là Ê-đôm. |
| And Jacob said, First of all give me your birthright. | Gia-cốp đáp rằng: Nay anh hãy bán quyền trưởng nam cho tôi đi. |
| And Esau said, Truly, I am at the point of death: what profit is the birthright to me? | Ê-sau đáp rằng: Nầy, anh gần thác, quyền trưởng nam để cho anh dùng làm chi? |
| And Jacob said, First of all give me your oath; and he gave him his oath, handing over his birthright to Jacob. | Gia-cốp đáp lại rằng: Anh hãy thề trước đi. Người bèn thề; vậy, người bán quyền trưởng nam cho Gia-cốp. |
| Then Jacob gave him bread and soup; and he took food and drink and went away, caring little for his birthright. | Rồi, Gia-cốp cho Ê-sau ăn bánh và canh phạn đậu; ăn uống xong, người bèn đứng dậy đi. Vậy, Ê-sau khinh quyền trưởng nam là thế. |
