| Then Zophar the Naamathite made answer and said, | Xô-pha, người Na -a-ma, bèn đáp rằng: |
| For this cause my thoughts are troubling me and driving me on. | Vì cớ ấy tư tưởng tôi chỉ dạy cho tôi lời đáp, Và tại lời đó, tâm thần tôi bị cảm động trong mình tôi. |
| I have to give ear to arguments which put me to shame, and your answers to me are wind without wisdom. | Tôi đã nghe lời trách móc làm hổ thẹn tôi; Trí khôn tôi lấy sự thông minh mà đáp lời. |
| Have you knowledge of this from early times, when man was placed on the earth, | Hãy biết rõ rằng, từ đời xưa, Từ khi loài người được đặt nơi thế gian, |
| That the pride of the sinner is short, and the joy of the evil-doer but for a minute? | Thì sự thắng hơn của kẻ ác không có lâu, Và sự vui mừng của kẻ vô đạo chỉ một lúc mà thôi. |
| Though he is lifted up to the heavens, and his head goes up to the clouds; | Dầu sự kiêu căng nó cất lên đến tận trời, Dầu cho đầu nó đụng chí mây, |
| Like the waste from his body he comes to an end for ever: those who have seen him say, Where is he? | Thì nó sẽ bị tiêu diệt đời đời như phân bón nó; Những người đã thấy nó sẽ hỏi rằng: Nó ở đâu? |
| He is gone like a dream, and is not seen again; he goes in flight like a vision of the night. | Nó bay đi như một cơn chiêm bao, không ai gặp nó lại; Thật, nó sẽ biết mất như dị tượng ban đêm. |
| The eye which saw him sees him no longer; and his place has no more knowledge of him. | Con mắt đã thường xem nó, sẽ không thấy nó lại, Nơi nó ở cũng sẽ chẳng còn nữa. |
| His children are hoping that the poor will be kind to them, and his hands give back his wealth. | Con cái nó sẽ cầu ơn kẻ nghèo, Và tay nó sẽ thường lại tài sản mà sự hung bạo nó đã cướp giựt. |
| His bones are full of young strength, but it will go down with him into the dust. | Tứ chi nó đầy sức lực của buổi đang thì; Nhưng sẽ nằm chung với nó trong bụi đất; |
| Though evil-doing is sweet in his mouth, and he keeps it secretly under his tongue; | Dẫu sự ác lấy làm ngọt ngào cho miệng nó, Dẫu ẩn dưới lưỡi hắn, |
| Though he takes care of it, and does not let it go, but keeps it still in his mouth; | Dẫu hắn tríu mến sự ác, không từ bỏ nó, Nhưng giữ nó lại trong miệng mình, |
| His food becomes bitter in his stomach; the poison of snakes is inside him. | Thì vật thực nó sẽ biến nơi can tràng, Và thành ra mật rắn hổ trong bụng nó. |
| He takes down wealth as food, and sends it up again; it is forced out of his stomach by God. | Nó có nuốt của cải, rồi lại mửa ra; Đức chúa Trời sẽ tống của ấy ra khỏi bụng nó. |
| He takes the poison of snakes into his mouth, the tongue of the snake is the cause of his death. | Nó sẽ mút nọc rắn hổ; Lưỡi của rắn lục sẽ giết nó. |
| Let him not see the rivers of oil, the streams of honey and milk. | Nó sẽ chẳng thấy sông và dòng chảy mật cùng mỡ sữa ra. |
| He is forced to give back the fruit of his work, and may not take it for food; he has no joy in the profit of his trading. | Nó phải trả hoa lợi về công việc mình, không được nuốt nó; Phải thường lãi tùy theo giá nó, Không được hưởng của ấy. |
| Because he has been cruel to the poor, turning away from them in their trouble; because he has taken a house by force which he did not put up; | Vì nó có hà hiếp, bỏ bê kẻ nghèo, Cướp lấy nhà cửa, mà nó không có xây cất. |
| There is no peace for him in his wealth, and no salvation for him in those things in which he took delight. | Bởi vì nó không biết an tịnh trong mình, Nó sẽ chẳng được bảo thủ gì về các điều mình ưa thích hơn hết. |
| He had never enough for his desire; for this cause his well-being will quickly come to an end. | Chẳng chi thoát khỏi sự mê ăn của nó; Cho nên sự may mắn nó chẳng bền lâu. |
| Even when his wealth is great, he is full of care, for the hand of everyone who is in trouble is turned against him. | Đương khi dư dật, nó sẽ bị cùng túng; Các người khốn khổ sẽ tra tay vào mình nó. |
| God gives him his desire, and sends the heat of his wrath on him, making it come down on him like rain. | Đức Chúa Trời sẽ sai thạnh nộ Ngài hãm mình nó, Đặng làm cho lòng nó đầy dẫy, Ngài sẽ giáng cơn giận Ngài trên mình nó, chánh trong lúc nó ăn bữa. |
| He may go in flight from the iron spear, but the arrow from the bow of brass will go through him; | Nó sẽ trốn lánh khỏi khí giới sắt, Còn cây cung đồng sẽ xoi lũng nó. |
| He is pulling it out, and it comes out of his back; and its shining point comes out of his side; he is overcome by fears. | Nó nhổ tên ra khỏi thân nó, Mũi gươm bóng ngời rút ra khỏi gan nó; Các sự kinh khiếp hãm áp nó. |
| All his wealth is stored up for the dark: a fire not made by man sends destruction on him, and on everything in his tent. | Cả sự tối tăm đã dành làm bửu vật cho nó; Lửa người ta không thổi sẽ thiêu đốt nó, Và kẻ còn sót lại trong trại nó sẽ bị tiêu diệt đi. |
| The heavens make clear his sin, and the earth gives witness against him. | Các từng trời sẽ bày tỏ gian ác nó ra, Và đất sẽ dấy lên nghịch cùng nó. |
| The produce of his house is taken away into another country, like things given into the hands of others in the day of wrath. | Hoa lợi của nhà nó sẽ bị đem đi mất, Tài sản nó sẽ bị trôi đi trong ngày thạnh nộ của Chúa. |
| This is the reward of the evil man, and the heritage given to him by God. | Đó là phần mà Đức Chúa Trời dành cho kẻ hung ác, Và ấy là cơ nghiệp mà Ngài định cho nó. |
