DEL hombre son las disposiciones del corazón: Mas de Jehová la respuesta de la lengua. | The designs of the heart are man's, but the answer of the tongue comes from the Lord. |
Todos los caminos del hombre son limpios en su opinión: Mas Jehová pesa los espíritus. | All a man's ways are clean to himself; but the Lord puts men's spirits into his scales. |
Encomienda á Jehová tus obras, Y tus pensamientos serán afirmados. | Put your works into the hands of the Lord, and your purposes will be made certain. |
Todas las cosas ha hecho Jehová por sí mismo, Y aun al impío para el día malo. | The Lord has made everything for his purpose, even the sinner for the day of evil. |
Abominación es á Jehová todo altivo de corazón: Aunque esté mano sobre mano, no será reputado inocente. | Everyone who has pride in his heart is disgusting to the Lord: he will certainly not go free from punishment. |
Con misericordia y verdad se corrige el pecado: Y con el temor de Jehová se apartan del mal los hombres. | By mercy and good faith evil-doing is taken away: and by the fear of the Lord men are turned away from evil. |
Cuando los caminos del hombre son agradables á Jehová, Aun á sus enemigos pacificará con él. | When a man's ways are pleasing to the Lord, he makes even his haters be at peace with him. |
Mejor es lo poco con justicia, Que la muchedumbre de frutos sin derecho. | Better is a little with righteousness, than great wealth with wrongdoing. |
El corazón del hombre piensa su camino: Mas Jehová endereza sus pasos. | A man may make designs for his way, but the Lord is the guide of his steps. |
Adivinación está en los labios del rey: En juicio no prevaricará su boca. | Decision is in the lips of the king: his mouth will not go wrong in judging. |
Peso y balanzas justas son de Jehová: Obra suya son todas las pesas de la bolsa. | True measures and scales are the Lord's: all the weights of the bag are his work. |
Abominación es á los reyes hacer impiedad: Porque con justicia será afirmado el trono. | Evil-doing is disgusting to kings: for the seat of the ruler is based on righteousness. |
Los labios justos son el contentamiento de los reyes; Y aman al que habla lo recto. | Lips of righteousness are the delight of kings; and he who says what is upright is dear to him. |
La ira del rey es mensajero de muerte: Mas el hombre sabio la evitará. | The wrath of the king is like those who give news of death, but a wise man will put peace in place of it. |
En la alegría del rostro del rey está la vida; Y su benevolencia es como nube de lluvia tardía. | In the light of the king's face there is life; and his approval is like a cloud of spring rain. |
Mejor es adquirir sabiduría que oro preciado; Y adquirir inteligencia vale más que la plata. | How much better it is to get wisdom than gold! and to get knowledge is more to be desired than silver. |
El camino de los rectos es apartarse del mal: Su alma guarda el que guarda su camino. | The highway of the upright is to be turned away from evil: he who takes care of his way will keep his soul. |
Antes del quebrantamiento es la soberbia; Y antes de la caída la altivez de espíritu. | Pride goes before destruction, and a stiff spirit before a fall. |
Mejor es humillar el espíritu con los humildes, Que partir despojos con los soberbios. | Better it is to have a gentle spirit with the poor, than to take part in the rewards of war with men of pride. |
El entendido en la palabra, hallará el bien: Y el que confía en Jehová, él es bienaventurado. | He who gives attention to the law of right will get good; and whoever puts his faith in the Lord is happy. |
El sabio de corazón es llamado entendido: Y la dulzura de labios aumentará la doctrina. | The wise-hearted will be named men of good sense: and by pleasing words learning is increased. |
Manantial de vida es el entendimiento al que lo posee: Mas la erudición de los necios es necedad. | Wisdom is a fountain of life to him who has it; but the punishment of the foolish is their foolish behaviour. |
El corazón del sabio hace prudente su boca; Y con sus labios aumenta la doctrina. | The heart of the wise man is the teacher of his mouth, and gives increased learning to his lips. |
Panal de miel son los dichos suaves. Suavidad al alma y medicina á los huesos. | Pleasing words are like honey, sweet to the soul and new life to the bones. |
Hay camino que parece derecho al hombre, Mas su salida son caminos de muerte. | There is a way which seems straight before a man, but its end is the ways of death. |
El alma del que trabaja, trabaja para sí; Porque su boca le constriñe. | The desire of the working man is working for him, for his need of food is driving him on. |
El hombre perverso cava el mal; Y en sus labios hay como llama de fuego. | A good-for-nothing man is a designer of evil, and in his lips there is a burning fire. |
El hombre perverso levanta contienda; Y el chismoso aparta los mejores amigos. | A man of twisted purposes is a cause of fighting everywhere: and he who says evil secretly makes trouble between friends. |
El hombre malo lisonjea á su prójimo, Y le hace andar por el camino no bueno: | A violent man puts desire of evil into his neighbour's mind, and makes him go in a way which is not good. |
Cierra sus ojos para pensar perversidades; Mueve sus labios, efectúa el mal. | He whose eyes are shut is a man of twisted purposes, and he who keeps his lips shut tight makes evil come about. |
Corona de honra es la vejez, Que se hallará en el camino de justicia. | The grey head is a crown of glory, if it is seen in the way of righteousness. |
Mejor es el que tarde se aira que el fuerte; Y el que se enseñorea de su espíritu, que el que toma una ciudad. | He who is slow to be angry is better than a man of war, and he who has control over his spirit than he who takes a town. |
La suerte se echa en el seno: Mas de Jehová es el juicio de ella. | A thing may be put to the decision of chance, but it comes about through the Lord. |
