| L`année de la mort du roi Ozias, je vis le Seigneur assis sur un trône très élevé, et les pans de sa robe remplissaient le temple. | In the year of King Uzziah's death I saw the Lord seated in his place, high and lifted up, and the Temple was full of the wide skirts of his robe. |
| Des séraphins se tenaient au-dessus de lui; ils avaient chacun six ailes; deux dont ils se couvraient la face, deux dont ils se couvraient les pieds, et deux dont ils se servaient pour voler. | Over him were the winged ones: every one had six wings; two for covering his face, two for covering his feed, and two for flight. |
| Ils criaient l`un à l`autre, et disaient: Saint, saint, saint est l`Éternel des armées! toute la terre est pleine de sa gloire! | And one said in a loud voice to another, Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of armies: all the earth is full of his glory. |
| Les portes furent ébranlées dans leurs fondements par la voix qui retentissait, et la maison se remplit de fumée. | And the bases of the door-pillars were shaking at the sound of his cry, and the house was full of smoke. |
| Alors je dis: Malheur à moi! je suis perdu, car je suis un homme dont les lèvres sont impures, j`habite au milieu d`un peuple dont les lèvres sont impures, et mes yeux ont vu le Roi, l`Éternel des armées. | Then I said, The curse is on me, and my fate is destruction; for I am a man of unclean lips, living among a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of armies. |
| Mais l`un des séraphins vola vers moi, tenant à la main une pierre ardente, qu`il avait prise sur l`autel avec des pincettes. | Then a winged one came to me with a burning coal in his hand, which he had taken from off the altar with the fire-spoon. |
| Il en toucha ma bouche, et dit: Ceci a touché tes lèvres; ton iniquité est enlevée, et ton péché est expié. | And after touching my mouth with it, he said, See, your lips have been touched with this; and your evil is taken away, and you are made clean from sin. |
| J`entendis la voix du Seigneur, disant: Qui enverrai-je, et qui marchera pour nous? Je répondis: Me voici, envoie-moi. | And the voice of the Lord came to my ears, saying, Whom am I to send, and who will go for us? Then I said, Here am I, send me. |
| Il dit alors: Va, et dis à ce peuple: Vous entendrez, et vous ne comprendrez point; Vous verrez, et vous ne saisirez point. | And he said, Go, and say to this people, You will go on hearing, but learning nothing; you will go on seeing, but without getting wiser. |
| Rends insensible le coeur de ce peuple, Endurcis ses oreilles, et bouche-lui les yeux, Pour qu`il ne voie point de ses yeux, n`entende point de ses oreilles, Ne comprenne point de son coeur, Ne se convertisse point et ne soit point guéri. | Make the hearts of this people fat, and let their ears be stopped, and their eyes shut; for fear that they may see with their eyes, and be hearing with their ears, and their heart may become wise, and they may be turned to me and made well. |
| Je dis: Jusqu`à quand, Seigneur? Et il répondit: Jusqu`à ce que les villes soient dévastées Et privées d`habitants; Jusqu`à ce qu`il n`y ait personne dans les maisons, Et que le pays soit ravagé par la solitude; | Then I said, Lord, how long? And he said in answer, Till the towns are waste and unpeopled, and the houses have no men, and the land becomes completely waste, |
| Jusqu`à ce que l`Éternel ait éloigné les hommes, Et que le pays devienne un immense désert, | And the Lord has taken men far away, and there are wide waste places in the land. |
| Et s`il y reste encore un dixième des habitants, Ils seront à leur tour anéantis. Mais, comme le térébinthe et le chêne Conservent leur tronc quand ils sont abattus, Une sainte postérité renaîtra de ce peuple. | And even if there is still a tenth part in it, it will again be burned, like a tree of the woods whose broken end is still in the earth after the tree has been cut down (the holy seed is the broken end). |
