Proverbs 11

La balance fausse est en horreur à l`Éternel, Mais le poids juste lui est agréable. | Scales of deceit are hated by the Lord, but a true weight is his delight. |
Quand vient l`orgueil, vient aussi l`ignominie; Mais la sagesse est avec les humbles. | When pride comes, there comes shame, but wisdom is with the quiet in spirit. |
L`intégrité des hommes droits les dirige, Mais les détours des perfides causent leur ruine. | The righteousness of the upright will be their guide, but the twisted ways of the false will be their destruction. |
Au jour de la colère, la richesse ne sert à rien; Mais la justice délivre de la mort. | Wealth is of no profit in the day of wrath, but righteousness keeps a man safe from death. |
La justice de l`homme intègre aplanit sa voie, Mais le méchant tombe par sa méchanceté. | The righteousness of the good man will make his way straight, but the sin of the evil-doer will be the cause of his fall. |
La justice des hommes droits les délivre, Mais les méchants sont pris par leur malice. | The righteousness of the upright will be their salvation, but the false will themselves be taken in their evil designs. |
A la mort du méchant, son espoir périt, Et l`attente des hommes iniques est anéantie. | At the death of an upright man his hope does not come to an end, but the hope of the evil-doer comes to destruction. |
Le juste est délivré de la détresse, Et le méchant prend sa place. | The upright man is taken out of trouble, and in his place comes the sinner. |
Par sa bouche l`impie perd son prochain, Mais les justes sont délivrés par la science. | With his mouth the evil man sends destruction on his neighbour; but through knowledge the upright are taken out of trouble. |
Quand les justes sont heureux, la ville est dans la joie; Et quand les méchants périssent, on pousse des cris d`allégresse. | When things go well for the upright man, all the town is glad; at the death of sinners, there are cries of joy. |
La ville s`élève par la bénédiction des hommes droits, Mais elle est renversée par la bouche des méchants. | By the blessing of the upright man the town is made great, but it is overturned by the mouth of the evil-doer. |
Celui qui méprise son prochain est dépourvu de sens, Mais l`homme qui a de l`intelligence se tait. | He who has a poor opinion of his neighbour has no sense, but a wise man keeps quiet. |
Celui qui répand la calomnie dévoile les secrets, Mais celui qui a l`esprit fidèle les garde. | He who goes about talking of others makes secrets public, but the true-hearted man keeps things covered. |
Quand la prudence fait défaut, le peuple tombe; Et le salut est dans le grand nombre des conseillers. | When there is no helping suggestion the people will have a fall, but with a number of wise guides they will be safe. |
Celui qui cautionne autrui s`en trouve mal, Mais celui qui craint de s`engager est en sécurité. | He who makes himself responsible for a strange man will undergo much loss; but the hater of such undertakings will be safe. |
Une femme qui a de la grâce obtient la gloire, Et ceux qui ont de la force obtiennent la richesse. | A woman who is full of grace is honoured, but a woman hating righteousness is a seat of shame: those hating work will undergo loss, but the strong keep their wealth. |
L`homme bon fait du bien à son âme, Mais l`homme cruel trouble sa propre chair. | The man who has mercy will be rewarded, but the cruel man is the cause of trouble to himself. |
Le méchant fait un gain trompeur, Mais celui qui sème la justice a un salaire véritable. | The sinner gets the payment of deceit; but his reward is certain who puts in the seed of righteousness. |
Ainsi la justice conduit à la vie, Mais celui qui poursuit le mal trouve la mort. | So righteousness gives life; but he who goes after evil gets death for himself. |
Ceux qui ont le coeur pervers sont en abomination à l`Éternel, Mais ceux dont la voie est intègre lui sont agréables. | The uncontrolled are hated by the Lord, but those whose ways are without error are his delight |
Certes, le méchant ne restera pas impuni, Mais la postérité des justes sera sauvée. | Certainly the evil-doer will not go free from punishment, but the seed of the upright man will be safe. |
Un anneau d`or au nez d`un pourceau, C`est une femme belle et dépourvue de sens. | Like a ring of gold in the nose of a pig, is a beautiful woman who has no sense. |
Le désir des justes, c`est seulement le bien; L`attente des méchants, c`est la fureur. | The desire of the upright man is only for good, but wrath is waiting for the evil-doer. |
Tel, qui donne libéralement, devient plus riche; Et tel, qui épargne à l`excès, ne fait que s`appauvrir. | A man may give freely, and still his wealth will be increased; and another may keep back more than is right, but only comes to be in need. |
L`âme bienfaisante sera rassasiée, Et celui qui arrose sera lui-même arrosé. | He who gives blessing will be made fat, but the curser will himself be cursed. |
Celui qui retient le blé est maudit du peuple, Mais la bénédiction est sur la tête de celui qui le vend. | He who keeps back grain will be cursed by the people; but a blessing will be on the head of him who lets them have it for a price. |
Celui qui recherche le bien s`attire de la faveur, Mais celui qui poursuit le mal en est atteint. | He who, with all his heart, goes after what is good is searching for grace; but he who is looking for trouble will get it. |
Celui qui se confie dans ses richesses tombera, Mais les justes verdiront comme le feuillage. | He who puts his faith in wealth will come to nothing; but the upright man will be full of growth like the green leaf. |
Celui qui trouble sa maison héritera du vent, Et l`insensé sera l`esclave de l`homme sage. | The troubler of his house will have the wind for his heritage, and the foolish will be servant to the wise-hearted. |
Le fruit du juste est un arbre de vie, Et le sage s`empare des âmes. | The fruit of righteousness is a tree of life, but violent behaviour takes away souls. |
Voici, le juste reçoit sur la terre une rétribution; Combien plus le méchant et le pécheur! | If the upright man is rewarded on earth, how much more the evil-doer and the sinner! |
