| Principio dell’evangelo di Gesù Cristo, Figliuolo di Dio. | The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. |
| Secondo ch’egli è scritto nel profeta Isaia: Ecco, io mando davanti a te il mio messaggero a prepararti la via… | Even as it is written in Isaiah the prophet, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, Who shall prepare thy way. |
| V’è una voce di uno che grida nel deserto: Preparate la via del Signore, addirizzate i suoi sentieri, | The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make ye ready the way of the Lord, Make his paths straight; |
| apparve Giovanni il Battista nel deserto predicando un battesimo di ravvedimento per la remissione dei peccati. | John came, who baptized in the wilderness and preached the baptism of repentance unto remission of sins. |
| E tutto il paese della Giudea e tutti quei di Gerusalemme accorrevano a lui; ed erano da lui battezzati nel fiume Giordano, confessando i loro peccati. | And there went out unto him all the country of Judaea, and all they of Jerusalem; And they were baptized of him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. |
| Or Giovanni era vestito di pel di cammello, con una cintura di cuoio intorno ai fianchi, e si nutriva di locuste e di miele selvatico. | And John was clothed with camel's hair, and [had] a leathern girdle about his loins, and did eat locusts and wild honey. |
| E predicava, dicendo: Dopo di me vien colui che è più forte di me; al quale io non son degno di chinarmi a sciogliere il legaccio dei calzari. | And he preached, saying, There cometh after me he that is mightier than I, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose. |
| Io vi ho battezzati con acqua, ma lui vi battezzerà con lo Spirito Santo. | I baptized you in water; But he shall baptize you in the Holy Spirit. |
| Ed avvenne in que’ giorni che Gesù venne da Nazaret di Galilea e fu battezzato da Giovanni nel Giordano. | And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in the Jordan. |
| E ad un tratto, com’egli saliva fuori dell’acqua, vide fendersi i cieli, e lo Spirito scendere su di lui in somiglianza di colomba. | And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens rent asunder, and the Spirit as a dove descending upon him: |
| E una voce venne dai cieli: Tu sei il mio diletto Figliuolo; in te mi sono compiaciuto. | And a voice came out of the heavens, Thou art my beloved Son, in thee I am well pleased. |
| E subito dopo lo Spirito lo sospinse nel deserto; | And straightway the Spirit driveth him forth into the wilderness. |
| e nel deserto rimase per quaranta giorni, tentato da Satana; e stava tra le fiere e gli angeli lo servivano. | And he was in the wilderness forty days tempted of Satan; And he was with the wild beasts; And the angels ministered unto him. |
| Dopo che Giovanni fu messo in prigione, Gesù si recò in Galilea, predicando l’evangelo di Dio e dicendo: | Now after John was delivered up, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of God, |
| Il tempo è compiuto e il regno di Dio è vicino; ravvedetevi e credete all’evangelo. | and saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe in the gospel. |
| Or passando lungo il mar della Galilea, egli vide Simone e Andrea, il fratello di Simone, che gettavano la rete in mare, perché erano pescatori. E Gesù disse loro: | And passing along by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net in the sea; for they were fishers. |
| Seguitemi, ed io farò di voi dei pescatori d’uomini. | And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men. |
| Ed essi, lasciate subito le reti, lo seguirono. | And straightway they left the nets, and followed him. |
| Poi, spintosi un po’ più oltre, vide Giacomo di Zebedeo e Giovanni suo fratello, che anch’essi in barca rassettavano le reti; | And going on a little further, he saw James the [son] of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the boat mending the nets. |
| e subito li chiamò; ed essi, lasciato Zebedeo loro padre nella barca con gli operai, se n’andarono dietro a lui. | And straightway he called them: and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants, and went after him. |
| E vennero in Capernaum; e subito, il sabato, Gesù, entrato nella sinagoga, insegnava. | And they go into Capernaum; and straightway on the sabbath day he entered into the synagogue and taught. |
| E la gente stupiva della sua dottrina, perch’egli li ammaestrava come avente autorità e non come gli scribi. | And they were astonished at his teaching: For he taught them as having authority, and not as the scribes. |
| In quel mentre, si trovava nella loro sinagoga un uomo posseduto da uno spirito immondo, il quale prese a gridare: | And straightway there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out, |
| Che v’è fra noi e te, o Gesù Nazareno? Se’ tu venuto per perderci? Io so chi tu sei: il Santo di Dio! | saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus thou Nazarene? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God. |
| E Gesù lo sgridò, dicendo: Ammutolisci ed esci da costui! | And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. |
| E lo spirito immondo, straziatolo e gridando forte, uscì da lui. | And the unclean spirit, tearing him and crying with a loud voice, came out of him. |
| E tutti sbigottirono talché si domandavano fra loro: Che cos’è mai questo? E’ una dottrina nuova! Egli comanda con autorità perfino agli spiriti immondi, ed essi gli ubbidiscono! | And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What is this? a new teaching! with authority he commandeth even the unclean spirits, and they obey him. |
| E la sua fama si divulgò subito per ogni dove, in tutta al circostante contrada della Galilea. | And the report of him went out straightway everywhere into all the region of Galilee round about. |
| Ed appena usciti dalla sinagoga, vennero con Giacomo e Giovanni in casa di Simone e d’Andrea. | And straightway, when they were come out of the synagogue, they came into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. |
| Or la suocera di Simone era a letto con la febbre; ed essi subito gliene parlarono; | Now Simon's wife's mother lay sick of a fever; and straightway they tell him of her: |
| ed egli, accostatosi, la prese per la mano e la fece levare; e la febbre la lasciò ed ella si mise a servirli. | and he came and took her by the hand, and raised her up; and the fever left her, and she ministered unto them. |
| Poi, fattosi sera, quando il sole fu tramontato, gli menarono tutti i malati e gl’indemoniati. | And at even, when the sun did set, they brought unto him all that were sick, and them that were possessed with demons. |
| E tutta la città era raunata all’uscio. | And all the city was gathered together at the door. |
| Ed egli ne guarì molti che soffrivan di diverse malattie, e cacciò molti demoni; e non permetteva ai demoni di parlare; poiché sapevano chi egli era. | And he healed many that were sick with divers diseases, and cast out many demons; and he suffered not the demons to speak, because they knew him. |
| Poi, la mattina, essendo ancora molto buio, Gesù, levatosi, uscì e se ne andò in un luogo deserto; e quivi pregava. | And in the morning, a great while before day, he rose up and went out, and departed into a desert place, and there prayed. |
| Simone e quelli ch’eran con lui gli tennero dietro; | And Simon and they that were with him followed after him; |
| e trovatolo, gli dissero: Tutti ti cercano. | and they found him, and say unto him, All are seeking thee. |
| Ed egli disse loro: Andiamo altrove, per i villaggi vicini, ond’io predichi anche là; poiché è per questo che io sono uscito. | And he saith unto them, Let us go elsewhere into the next towns, that I may preach there also; for to this end came I forth. |
| E andò per tutta la Galilea, predicando nelle loro sinagoghe e cacciando i demoni. | And he went into their synagogues throughout all Galilee, preaching and casting out demons. |
| E un lebbroso venne a lui e buttandosi in ginocchio lo pregò dicendo: Se tu vuoi, tu puoi mondarmi! | And there cometh to him a leper, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. |
| E Gesù, mosso a pietà, stese la mano, lo toccò e gli disse: Lo voglio; sii mondato! | And being moved with compassion, he stretched forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou made clean. |
| E subito la lebbra sparì da lui, e fu mondato. | And straightway the leprosy departed from him, and he was made clean. |
| E Gesù, avendogli fatte severe ammonizioni, lo mandò subito via e gli disse: | And he strictly charged him, and straightway sent him out, |
| Guardati dal farne parola ad alcuno; ma va’, mostrati al sacerdote ed offri per la tua purificazione quel che Mosè ha prescritto; e questo serva loro di testimonianza. | and saith unto him, See thou say nothing to any man: but go show thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing the things which Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them. |
| Ma colui, appena partito, si dette a proclamare e a divulgare il fatto; di modo che Gesù non poteva più entrar palesemente in città; ma se ne stava fuori in luoghi deserti, e da ogni parte la gente accorreva a lui. | But he went out, and began to publish it much, and to spread abroad the matter, insomuch that Jesus could no more openly enter into a city, but was without in desert places: and they came to him from every quarter. |
