| Riguardo ai figliuoli di Ammon. Così parla l’Eterno: Israele non ha egli figliuoli? Non ha egli erede? Perché dunque Malcom prend’egli possesso di Gad, e il suo popolo abita nelle città d’esso? | About the children of Ammon. These are the words of the Lord: Has Israel no sons? has he no one to take the heritage? why then has Milcom taken Gad for himself, putting his people in its towns? |
| Perciò, ecco, i giorni vengono, dice l’Eterno, ch’io farò udire il grido di guerra contro Rabbah de’ figliuoli d’Ammon; essa diventerà un mucchio di ruine, le sue città saranno consumate dal fuoco; allora Israele spodesterà quelli che l’aveano spodestato, dice l’Eterno. | Because of this, see, the days are coming when I will have a cry of war sounded against Rabbah, the town of the children of Ammon; it will become a waste of broken walls, and her daughter-towns will be burned with fire: then Israel will take the heritage of those who took his heritage, says the Lord. |
| Urla, o Heshbon, poiché Ai è devastata; gridate, o città di Rabbah, cingetevi di sacchi, date in lamenti, correte qua e là lungo le chiusure, poiché Malcom va in cattività insieme coi suoi sacerdoti e coi suoi capi. | Make sounds of grief, O Heshbon, for Ai is wasted; give loud cries, O daughters of Rabbah, and put haircloth round you: give yourselves to weeping, running here and there and wounding yourselves; for Milcom will be taken prisoner together with his rulers and his priests. |
| Perché ti glori tu delle tue valli, della tua fertile valle, o figliuola infedele, che confidavi nei tuoi tesori e dicevi: "Chi verrà contro di me?" | Why are you lifted up in pride on account of your valleys, your flowing valley, O daughter ever turning away? who puts her faith in her wealth, saying, Who will come against me? |
| Ecco, io ti fo venire addosso da tutti i tuoi dintorni il terrore, dice il Signore, l’Eterno degli eserciti; e voi sarete scacciati, in tutte le direzioni, e non vi sarà chi raduni i fuggiaschi. | See, I will send fear on you, says the Lord, the Lord of armies, from those who are round you on every side; you will be forced out, every man straight before him, and there will be no one to get together the wanderers. |
| Ma, dopo questo, io trarrò dalla cattività i figliuoli di Ammon, dice l’Eterno. | But after these things, I will let the fate of the children of Ammon be changed, says the Lord. |
| Riguardo a Edom. Così parla l’Eterno degli eserciti: Non v’è egli più saviezza in Teman? Gl’intelligenti non sanno essi più consigliare? La loro saviezza è dessa svanita? | About Edom. This is what the Lord of armies has said. Is there no more wisdom in Teman? have wise suggestions come to an end among men of good sense? has their wisdom completely gone? |
| Fuggite, voltate le spalle, nascondetevi profondamente, o abitanti di Dedan! Poiché io fo venire la calamità sopra Esaù, il tempo della sua punizione. | Go in flight, go back, take cover in deep places, you who are living in Dedan; for I will send the fate of Edom on him, even the time of his punishment. |
| Se de’ vendemmiatori venissero a te non lascerebbero essi dei racimoli? Se de’ ladri venissero a te di notte non guasterebbero più di quanto a loro bastasse. | If men came to get your grapes, would they not let some be uncut on the vines? if thieves came by night, would they not make waste till they had enough? |
| Ma io nuderò Esaù, scoprirò i suoi nascondigli, ed ei non si potrà nascondere; la sua prole, i suoi fratelli, i suoi vicini saran distrutti, ed ei non sarà più. | I have had Esau searched out, uncovering his secret places, so that he may not keep himself covered: his seed is wasted and has come to an end, and there is no help from his neighbours. |
| Lascia i tuoi orfani, io li farò vivere, e le tue vedove confidino in me! | Put in my care your children who have no father, and I will keep them safe; and let your widows put their faith in me. |
| Poiché così parla l’Eterno: Ecco, quelli che non eran destinati a bere la coppa, la dovranno bere; e tu andresti del tutto impunito? Non andrai impunito, tu la berrai certamente. | For the Lord has said, Those for whom the cup was not made ready will certainly be forced to take of it; and are you to go without punishment? you will not be without punishment, but will certainly be forced to take from the cup. |
| Poiché io lo giuro per me stesso, dice l’Eterno, Botsra diverrà una desolazione, un obbrobrio, un deserto, una maledizione, e tutte le sue città saranno delle solitudini eterne. | For I have taken an oath by myself, says the Lord, that Bozrah will become a cause of wonder, a name of shame, a waste and a curse; and all its towns will be waste places for ever. |
| Io ho ricevuto un messaggio dall’Eterno, e un messaggero e stato inviato fra le nazioni: "Adunatevi, venite contro di lei, levatevi per la battaglia!" | Word has come to me from the Lord, and a representative has been sent to the nations, to say, Come together and go up against her, and take your places for the fight. |
| Poiché, ecco, io ti rendo piccolo fra le nazioni, e sprezzato fra gli uomini. | For see, I have made you small among the nations, looked down on by men. |
| Lo spavento che ispiravi, l’orgoglio del tuo cuore t’han sedotto, o tu che abiti nelle fessure delle rocce, che occupi il sommo delle colline; ma quand’anche tu facessi il tuo nido tant’alto quanto quello dell’aquila, io ti farò precipitar di lassù, dice l’Eterno. | ... the pride of your heart has been a false hope, O you who are living in the cracks of the rock, keeping your place on the top of the hill: even if you made your living-place as high as the eagle, I would make you come down, says the Lord. |
| E Edom diventerà una desolazione; chiunque passerà presso di lui rimarrà stupito, e si darà a fischiare a motivo di tutte le sue piaghe. | And Edom will become a cause of wonder: everyone who goes by will be overcome with wonder, and make sounds of fear at all her punishments. |
| Come avvenne al sovvertimento di Sodoma di Gomorra e di tutte le città a loro vicine, dice l’Eterno, nessuno più abiterà quivi, non vi dimorerà più alcun figliuol d’uomo. | As at the downfall of Sodom and Gomorrah and their neighbouring towns, says the Lord, no man will be living in it, no son of man will have a resting-place there. |
| Ecco, egli sale come un leone dalle rive lussureggianti del Giordano contro la forte dimora; io ne farò fuggire a un tratto Edom, e stabilirò su di essa colui che io ho scelto. Poiché chi è simile a me? Chi m’ordinerà di comparire in giudizio? Qual è il pastore che possa starmi a fronte? | See, he will come up like a lion from the thick growth of Jordan against the resting-place of Teman: but I will suddenly make him go in flight from her; and I will put over her the man of my selection: for who is like me? and who will put forward his cause against me? and what keeper of sheep will be able to keep his place before me? |
| Perciò, ascoltate il disegno che l’Eterno ha concepito contro Edom, e i pensieri che medita contro gli abitanti di Teman! Certo, saran trascinati via come i più piccoli del gregge, certo, la loro dimora sarà devastata. | For this cause give ear to the decision of the Lord which he has made against Edom, and to his purposes designed against the people of Teman: Truly, they will be pulled away by the smallest of the flock; truly, he will make waste their fields with them. |
| Al rumore della loro caduta trema la terra; s’ode il loro grido fino al mar Rosso. | The earth is shaking with the noise of their fall; their cry is sounding in the Red Sea. |
| Ecco, il nemico sale, fende l’aria, come l’aquila, spiega le sue ali verso Botsra; e il cuore dei prodi d’Edom, in quel giorno, è come il cuore d’una donna in doglie di parto. | See, he will come up like an eagle in flight, stretching out his wings against Bozrah: and the hearts of Edom's men of war on that day will be like the heart of a woman in birth-pains. |
| Riguardo a Damasco. Hamath e Arpad sono confuse, poiché hanno udito una cattiva notizia; vengon meno; è un’agitazione come quella del mare, che non può calmarsi. | About Damascus. Hamath is put to shame, and Arpad; for the word of evil has come to their ears, their heart in its fear is turned to water, it will not be quiet. |
| Damasco divien fiacca, si volta per fuggire, un tremito l’ha còlta; angoscia e dolori si sono impadroniti di lei, come di donna che partorisce. | Damascus has become feeble, she is turned to flight, fear has taken her in its grip: pain and sorrows have come on her, as on a woman in birth-pains. |
| "Come mai non è stata risparmiata la città famosa, la città della mia gioia?" | How has the town of praise been wasted, the place of joy! |
| Così i suoi giovani cadranno nelle sue piazze, e tutti i suoi uomini di guerra periranno in quel giorno, dice l’Eterno degli eserciti. | So her young men will be falling in her streets, and all the men of war will be cut off in that day, says the Lord of armies. |
| Ed io appiccherò il fuoco alle mura di Damasco, ed esso divorerà i palazzi di Ben-Hadad. | And I will have a fire lighted on the wall of Damascus, burning up the great houses of Ben-hadad. |
| Riguardo a Kedar e ai regni di Hatsor, che Nebucadnetsar, re di Babilonia, sconfisse. Così parla l’Eterno: Levatevi, salite contro Kedar, distruggete i figliuoli dell’oriente! | About Kedar and the kingdoms of Hazor, which Nebuchadrezzar, king of Babylon, overcame. This is what the Lord has said: Up! go against Kedar, and make an attack on the children of the east. |
| Le lor tende, i loro greggi saranno presi; saranno portati via i loro padiglioni, tutti i loro bagagli, i loro cammelli; si griderà loro: "Spavento da tutte le parti!" | Their tents and their flocks they will take; they will take away for themselves their curtains and all their vessels and their camels: they will give a cry to them, Fear on every side. |
| Fuggite, dileguatevi ben lungi, nascondetevi profondamente, o abitanti di Hatsor, dice l’Eterno; poiché Nebucadnetsar, re di Babilonia, ha formato un disegno contro di voi, ha concepito un piano contro di voi. | Go in flight, go wandering far off, take cover in deep places, O people of Hazor, says the Lord; for Nebuchadrezzar, king of Babylon, has made a design against you, he has a purpose against you in mind. |
| Levatevi, salite contro una nazione che gode pace ed abita in sicurtà, dice l’Eterno; che non ha né porte né sbarre, e dimora solitaria. | Up! go against a nation which is living in comfort and without fear of danger, says the Lord, without doors or locks, living by themselves. |
| Siano i loro cammelli dati in preda, e la moltitudine del loro bestiame diventi bottino! Io disperderò a tutti i venti quelli che si tagliano i canti della barba, e farò venire la loro calamità da tutte le parti, dice l’Eterno. | And their camels will be taken from them by force, and their great herds will come into the hands of their attackers: those who have the ends of their hair cut I will send in flight to all the winds; and I will send their fate on them from every side, says the Lord. |
| Hatsor diventerà un ricetto di sciacalli una desolazione in perpetuo; nessuno più abiterà quivi, non vi dimorerà più alcun figliuol d’uomo. | And Hazor will be a hole for jackals, a waste for ever: no one will be living in it, and no son of man will have a resting-place there. |
| La parola dell’Eterno che fu rivolta in questi termini al profeta Geremia riguardo ad Elam, al principio del regno di Sedekia, re di Giuda: | The word of the Lord which came to Jeremiah the prophet about Elam, when Zedekiah first became king of Judah, saying, |
| Così parla l’Eterno degli eserciti: Ecco, io spezzo l’arco di Elam, la sua principal forza. | This is what the Lord of armies has said: See, I will have the bow of Elam, their chief strength, broken. |
| Io farò venire contro Elam i quattro venti dalle quattro estremità del cielo; li disperderò a tutti quei venti, e non ci sarà nazione, dove non arrivino de’ fuggiaschi d’Elam. | And I will send on Elam four winds from the four quarters of heaven, driving them out to all those winds; there will be no nation into which the wanderers from Elam do not come. |
| Renderò gli Elamiti spaventati dinanzi ai loro nemici, e dinanzi a quelli che cercan la loro vita; farò piombare su loro la calamità, la mia ira ardente, dice l’Eterno; manderò la spada ad inseguirli, finch’io non li abbia consumati. | And I will let Elam be broken before their haters, and before those who are making designs against their lives: I will send evil on them, even my burning wrath, says the Lord; and I will send the sword after them till I have put an end to them: |
| E metterò il mio trono in Elam, e ne farò perire i re ed i capi, dice l’Eterno. | I will put the seat of my power in Elam, and in Elam I will put an end to kings and rulers, says the Lord. |
| Ma negli ultimi giorni avverrà ch’io trarrò Elam dalla cattività, dice l’Eterno. | But it will come about that, in the last days, I will let the fate of Elam be changed, says the Lord. |
