| Allora Bildad di Suach rispose e disse: | Then Bildad the Shuhite made answer and said, |
| "Fino a quando terrai tu questi discorsi e saran le parole della tua bocca come un vento impetuoso? | How long will you say these things, and how long will the words of your mouth be like a strong wind? |
| Iddio perverte egli il giudizio? L’Onnipotente perverte egli la giustizia? | Does God give wrong decisions? or is the Ruler of all not upright in his judging? |
| Se i tuoi figliuoli han peccato contro lui, egli li ha dati in balìa del loro misfatto; | If your children have done evil against him, then their punishment is from his hand. |
| ma tu, se ricorri a Dio e implori grazia dall’Onnipotente, | If you will make search for God with care, and put your request before the Ruler of all; |
| se proprio sei puro e integro, certo egli sorgerà in tuo favore, e restaurerà la dimora della tua giustizia. | If you are clean and upright; then he will certainly be moved to take up your cause, and will make clear your righteousness by building up your house again. |
| Così sarà stato piccolo il tuo principio, ma la tua fine sarà grande oltre modo. | And though your start was small, your end will be very great. |
| Interroga le passate generazioni, rifletti sull’esperienza de’ padri; | Put the question now to the past generations, and give attention to what has been searched out by their fathers: |
| giacché noi siam d’ieri e non sappiamo nulla; i nostri giorni sulla terra non son che un’ombra; | (For we are but of yesterday, and have no knowledge, because our days on earth are gone like a shade:) |
| ma quelli certo t’insegneranno, ti parleranno, e dal loro cuore trarranno discorsi. | Will they not give you teaching, and say words of wisdom to you? |
| Può il papiro crescere ove non c’è limo? Il giunco viene egli su senz’acqua? | Will the river-plant come up in its pride without wet earth? will the grass get tall without water? |
| Mentre son verdi ancora, e senza che li si tagli, prima di tutte l’erbe, seccano. | When it is still green, without being cut down, it becomes dry and dead before any other plant. |
| Tale la sorte di tutti quei che dimenticano Dio, e la speranza dell’empio perirà. | So is the end of all who do not keep God in mind; and the hope of the evil-doer comes to nothing: |
| La sua baldanza è troncata, la sua fiducia e come una tela di ragno. | Whose support is cut off, and whose hope is no stronger than a spider's thread. |
| Egli s’appoggia alla sua casa, ma essa non regge; vi s’aggrappa, ma quella non sta salda. | He is looking to his family for support, but it is not there; he puts his hope in it, but it comes to nothing. |
| Egli verdeggia al sole, e i suoi rami si protendono sul suo giardino; | He is full of strength before the sun, and his branches go out over his garden. |
| le sue radici s’intrecciano sul mucchio delle macerie, penetra fra le pietre della casa. | His roots are twisted round the stones, forcing their way in between them. |
| Ma divelto che sia dal suo luogo, questo lo rinnega e gli dice: "Non ti ho mai veduto!" | If he is taken away from his place, then it will say, I have not seen you. |
| Ecco il gaudio che gli procura la sua condotta! E dalla polvere altri dopo lui germoglieranno. | Such is the joy of his way, and out of the dust another comes up to take his place. |
| No, Iddio non rigetta l’uomo integro, ne porge aiuto a quelli che fanno il male. | Truly, God will not give up him who is without sin, and will not take evil-doers by the hand. |
| Egli renderà ancora il sorriso alla tua bocca, e sulle tue labbra metterà canti d’esultanza. | The time will come when your mouth will be full of laughing, and cries of joy will come from your lips. |
| Quelli che t’odiano saran coperti di vergogna, e la tenda degli empi sparirà". | Your haters will be clothed with shame, and the tent of the sinner will not be seen again. |
