Giona 1:1 La parola dell’Eterno fu rivolta Giona, figliuolo di Amittai, in questi termini:	Jonah 1:1 And the word of the Lord came to Jonah, the son of Amittai, saying,
Giona 1:2 "Lèvati, va’ a Ninive, la gran città, e predica contro di lei; perché la loro malvagità è salita nel mio cospetto".	Jonah 1:2 Up! go to Nineveh, that great town, and let your voice come to it; for their evil-doing has come up before me.
Giona 1:3 Ma Giona si levò per fuggirsene a Tarsis, lungi dal cospetto dell’Eterno; e scese a Giaffa, dove trovò una nave che andava a Tarsis; e, pagato il prezzo del suo passaggio, s’imbarcò per andare con quei della nave a Tarsis, lungi dal cospetto dell’Eterno.	Jonah 1:3 And Jonah got up to go in flight to Tarshish, away from the Lord; and he went down to Joppa, and saw there a ship going to Tarshish: so he gave them the price of the journey and went down into it to go with them to Tarshish, away from the Lord.
Giona 1:4 Ma l’Eterno scatenò un gran vento sul mare, e vi fu sul mare una forte tempesta, sì che la nave minacciava di sfasciarsi.	Jonah 1:4 And the Lord sent out a great wind on to the sea and there was a violent storm in the sea, so that the ship seemed in danger of being broken.
Giona 1:5 I marinari ebbero paura, e ognuno gridò al suo dio e gettarono a mare le mercanzie ch’erano a bordo, per alleggerire la nave; ma Giona era sceso nel fondo della nave, s’era coricato, e dormiva profondamente.	Jonah 1:5 Then the sailors were full of fear, every man crying to his god; and the goods in the ship were dropped out into the sea to make the weight less. But Jonah had gone down into the inmost part of the ship where he was stretched out in a deep sleep.
Giona 1:6 Il capitano gli si avvicinò, e gli disse: "Che fai tu qui a dormire? Lèvati, invoca il tuo dio! Forse Dio si darà pensiero di noi e non periremo".	Jonah 1:6 And the ship's captain came to him and said to him, What are you doing sleeping? Up! say a prayer to your God, if by chance God will give a thought to us, so that we may not come to destruction.
Giona 1:7 Poi dissero l’uno all’altro: "Venite, tiriamo a sorte, per sapere a cagione di chi ci capita questa disgrazia". Tirarono a sorte, e la sorte cadde su Giona.	Jonah 1:7 And they said to one another, Come, let us put this to the decision of chance and see on whose account this evil has come on us. So they did so, and Jonah was seen to be the man.
Giona 1:8 Allora essi gli dissero: "Dicci dunque a cagione di chi ci capita questa disgrazia! Qual è la tua occupazione? donde vieni? qual è il tuo paese? e a che popolo appartieni?"	Jonah 1:8 Then they said to him, Now make clear to us what is your work, and where you come from? what is your country, and who are your people?
Giona 1:9 Egli rispose loro: "Sono Ebreo, e temo l’Eterno, l’Iddio del cielo, che ha fatto il mare e la terra ferma".	Jonah 1:9 And he said to them, I am a Hebrew, a worshipper of the Lord, the God of heaven, who made the sea and the dry land.
Giona 1:10 Allora quegli uomini furon presi da grande spavento, e gli dissero: "Perché hai fatto questo?" Poiché quegli uomini sapevano ch’egli fuggiva lungi dal cospetto dell’Eterno, giacché egli avea dichiarato loro la cosa.	Jonah 1:10 And the men were in great fear, and they said to him, What is this you have done? For the men had knowledge of his flight from the Lord because he had not kept it from them.
Giona 1:11 E quelli gli dissero: "Che ti dobbiam fare perché il mare si calmi per noi?" Poiché il mare si faceva sempre più tempestoso.	Jonah 1:11 And they said to him, What are we to do to you so that the sea may become calm for us? For the sea was getting rougher and rougher.
Giona 1:12 Egli rispose loro: "Pigliatemi e gettatemi in mare, e il mare si calmerà per voi; perché io so che questa forte tempesta vi piomba addosso per cagion mia".	Jonah 1:12 And he said to them, Take me up and put me into the sea, and the sea will become calm for you: for I am certain that because of me this great storm has come on you.
Giona 1:13 Nondimeno quegli uomini davan forte nei remi per ripigliar terra; ma non potevano, perché il mare si faceva sempre più tempestoso e minaccioso.	Jonah 1:13 And the men were working hard to get back to the land, but they were not able to do so: for the sea got rougher and rougher against them.
Giona 1:14 Allora gridarono all’Eterno, e dissero: "Deh, o Eterno, non lasciar che periamo per risparmiar la vita di quest’uomo, e non ci mettere addosso del sangue innocente; poiché tu, o Eterno, hai fatto quel che ti è piaciuto".	Jonah 1:14 So, crying to the Lord, they said, Give ear to our prayer, O Lord, give ear, and do not let destruction overtake us because of this man's life; do not put on us the sin of taking life without cause: for you, O Lord, have done what seemed good to you.
Giona 1:15 Poi presero Giona e lo gettarono in mare; e la furia del mare si calmò.	Jonah 1:15 So they took Jonah up and put him into the sea: and the sea was no longer angry.
Giona 1:16 E quegli uomini furon presi da un gran timore dell’Eterno; offrirono un sacrifizio all’Eterno, e fecero dei voti.	Jonah 1:16 Then great was the men's fear of the Lord; and they made an offering to the Lord and took oaths to him.
Giona 1:17 E l’Eterno fece venire un gran pesce per inghiottir Giona; e Giona fu nel ventre del pesce tre giorni e tre notti.	Jonah 1:17 And the Lord made ready a great fish to take Jonah into its mouth; and Jonah was inside the fish for three days and three nights.
