Giovanni 4:1 Quando dunque il Signore ebbe saputo che i Farisei aveano udito ch’egli faceva e battezzava più discepoli di Giovanni	John 4:1 Now when it was clear to the Lord that word had come to the ears of the Pharisees that Jesus was making more disciples than John and was giving them baptism
Giovanni 4:2 (quantunque non fosse Gesù che battezzava, ma i suoi discepoli),	John 4:2 (Though, in fact, it was his disciples who gave baptism, not Jesus himself),
Giovanni 4:3 lasciò la Giudea e se n’andò di nuovo in Galilea.	John 4:3 He went out of Judaea into Galilee again.
Giovanni 4:4 Or doveva passare per la Samaria.	John 4:4 And it was necessary for him to go through Samaria.
Giovanni 4:5 Giunse dunque a una città della Samaria, chiamata Sichar, vicina al podere che Giacobbe dette a Giuseppe, suo figliuolo;	John 4:5 So he came to a town of Samaria which was named Sychar, near to the bit of land which Jacob gave to his son Joseph:
Giovanni 4:6 e quivi era la fonte di Giacobbe. Gesù dunque, stanco del cammino, stava così a sedere presso la fonte. Era circa l’ora sesta.	John 4:6 Now Jacob's fountain was there. Jesus, being tired after his journey, was resting by the fountain. It was about the sixth hour.
Giovanni 4:7 Una donna samaritana venne ad attinger l’acqua. Gesù le disse: Dammi da bere.	John 4:7 A woman of Samaria came to get water, and Jesus said to her, Give me some water.
Giovanni 4:8 (Giacché i suoi discepoli erano andati in città a comprar da mangiare).	John 4:8 For his disciples had gone to the town to get food.
Giovanni 4:9 Onde la donna samaritana gli disse: Come mai tu che sei giudeo chiedi da bere a me che sono una donna samaritana? Infatti i Giudei non hanno relazioni co’ Samaritani.	John 4:9 The woman of Samaria said to him, Why do you, a Jew, make a request for water to me, a woman of Samaria? She said this because Jews have nothing to do with the people of Samaria.
Giovanni 4:10 Gesù rispose e le disse: Se tu conoscessi il dono di Dio e chi è che ti dice: Dammi da bere, tu stessa gliene avresti chiesto, ed egli t’avrebbe dato dell’acqua viva.	John 4:10 In answer Jesus said, If you had knowledge of what God gives freely and who it is who says to you, Give me water, you would make your prayer to him, and he would give you living water.
Giovanni 4:11 La donna gli disse: Signore, tu non hai nulla per attingere, e il pozzo è profondo; donde hai dunque cotest’acqua viva?	John 4:11 The woman said to him, Sir, you have no vessel and the fountain is deep; from where will you get the living water?
Giovanni 4:12 Sei tu più grande di Giacobbe nostro padre che ci dette questo pozzo e ne bevve egli stesso co’ suoi figliuoli e il suo bestiame?	John 4:12 Are you greater than our father Jacob who gave us the fountain and took the water of it himself, with his children and his cattle?
Giovanni 4:13 Gesù rispose e le disse: Chiunque beve di quest’acqua avrà sete di nuovo;	John 4:13 Jesus said to her, Everyone who takes this water will be in need of it again:
Giovanni 4:14 ma chi beve dell’acqua che io gli darò, non avrà mai più sete; anzi, l’acqua che io gli darò, diventerà in lui una fonte d’acqua che scaturisce in vita eterna.	John 4:14 But whoever takes the water I give him will never be in need of drink again; for the water I give him will become in him a fountain of eternal life.
Giovanni 4:15 La donna gli disse: Signore, dammi di cotest’acqua, affinché io non abbia più sete, e non venga più sin qua ad attingere.	John 4:15 The woman said to him, Sir, give me this water, so that I may not be in need again of drink and will not have to come all this way for it.
Giovanni 4:16 Gesù le disse: Va’ a chiamar tuo marito e vieni qua.	John 4:16 Jesus said to her, Go, get your husband and come back here with him.
Giovanni 4:17 La donna gli rispose: Non ho marito. E Gesù: Hai detto bene: Non ho marito;	John 4:17 In answer, the woman said, I have no husband. Jesus said to her, You have said rightly, I have no husband:
Giovanni 4:18 perché hai avuto cinque mariti; e quello che hai ora, non è tuo marito; in questo hai detto il vero.	John 4:18 You have had five husbands, and the man you have now is not your husband: that was truly said.
Giovanni 4:19 La donna gli disse: Signore, io vedo che tu sei un profeta.	John 4:19 The woman said to him, Sir, I see that you are a prophet.
Giovanni 4:20 I nostri padri hanno adorato su questo monte, e voi dite che a Gerusalemme è il luogo dove bisogna adorare.	John 4:20 Our fathers gave worship on this mountain, but you Jews say that the right place for worship is in Jerusalem.
Giovanni 4:21 Gesù le disse: Donna, credimi; l’ora viene che né su questo monte né a Gerusalemme adorerete il Padre.	John 4:21 Jesus said to her, Woman, take my word for this; the time is coming when you will not give worship to the Father on this mountain or in Jerusalem.
Giovanni 4:22 Voi adorate quel che non conoscete; noi adoriamo quel che conosciamo, perché la salvazione vien da’ Giudei.	John 4:22 You give worship, but without knowledge of what you are worshipping: we give worship to what we have knowledge of: for salvation comes from the Jews.
Giovanni 4:23 Ma l’ora viene, anzi è già venuta, che i veri adoratori adoreranno il Padre in ispirito e verità; poiché tali sono gli adoratori che il Padre richiede.	John 4:23 But the time is coming, and is even now here, when the true worshippers will give worship to the Father in the true way of the spirit, for these are the worshippers desired by the Father.
Giovanni 4:24 Iddio è spirito; e quelli che l’adorano, bisogna che l’adorino in ispirito e verità.	John 4:24 God is Spirit: then let his worshippers give him worship in the true way of the spirit.
Giovanni 4:25 La donna gli disse: Io so che il Messia (ch’è chiamato Cristo) ha da venire; quando sarà venuto, ci annunzierà ogni cosa.	John 4:25 The woman said to him, I am certain that the Messiah, who is named Christ, is coming; when he comes he will make all things clear to us.
Giovanni 4:26 Gesù le disse: Io che ti parlo, son desso.	John 4:26 Jesus said to her, I, who am talking to you, am he.
Giovanni 4:27 In quel mentre giunsero i suoi discepoli, e si maravigliarono ch’egli parlasse con una donna; ma pur nessuno gli chiese: Che cerchi? o: Perché discorri con lei?	John 4:27 At that point the disciples came back, and they were surprised to see him talking to a woman; but not one of them said to him, What is your purpose? or, Why are you talking to her?
Giovanni 4:28 La donna lasciò dunque la sua secchia, se ne andò in città e disse alla gente:	John 4:28 Then the woman put down her water-pot and went into the town, and said to the people,
Giovanni 4:29 Venite a vedere un uomo che m’ha detto tutto quello che ho fatto; non sarebb’egli il Cristo?	John 4:29 Come and see a man who has been talking to me of everything I ever did! Is it possible that this is the Christ?
Giovanni 4:30 La gente uscì dalla città e veniva a lui.	John 4:30 So they went out of the town and came to him.
Giovanni 4:31 Intanto i discepoli lo pregavano, dicendo: Maestro, mangia.	John 4:31 While this was taking place, the disciples were saying to Jesus, Master, take some food.
Giovanni 4:32 Ma egli disse loro: Io ho un cibo da mangiare che voi non sapete.	John 4:32 But he said to them, I have food of which you have no knowledge.
Giovanni 4:33 Perciò i discepoli si dicevano l’uno all’altro: Forse qualcuno gli ha portato da mangiare?	John 4:33 So the disciples said one to another, Did anyone give him food?
Giovanni 4:34 Gesù disse loro: Il mio cibo è di far la volontà di Colui che mi ha mandato, e di compiere l’opera sua.	John 4:34 Jesus said, My food is to do the pleasure of him who sent me and to make his work complete.
Giovanni 4:35 Non dite voi che ci sono ancora quattro mesi e poi vien la mietitura? Ecco, io vi dico: Levate gli occhi e mirate le campagne come già son bianche da mietere.	John 4:35 You would say, Four months from now is the time of the grain-cutting. Take a look, I say to you, at the fields; they are even now white for cutting.
Giovanni 4:36 Il mietitore riceve premio e raccoglie frutto per la vita eterna, affinché il seminatore ed il mietitore si rallegrino assieme.	John 4:36 He who does the cutting now has his reward; he is getting together fruit for eternal life, so that he who did the planting and he who gets in the grain may have joy together.
Giovanni 4:37 Poiché in questo è vero il detto: L’uno semina e l’altro miete.	John 4:37 In this the saying is a true one, One does the planting, and another gets in the grain.
Giovanni 4:38 Io v’ho mandati a mieter quello intorno a cui non avete faticato; altri hanno faticato, e voi siete entrati nella lor fatica.	John 4:38 I sent you to get in grain which you had no hand in planting: other men did that work, and you take the reward.
Giovanni 4:39 Or molti de’ Samaritani di quella città credettero in lui a motivo della testimonianza resa da quella donna: Egli m’ha detto tutte le cose che ho fatte.	John 4:39 Now a number of the people of that town had faith in him because of the woman's witness: He has been talking to me of everything I ever did.
Giovanni 4:40 Quando dunque i Samaritani furono venuti a lui, lo pregarono di trattenersi da loro; ed egli si trattenne quivi due giorni.	John 4:40 So when the people came to him they made request to him to be among them for a time, and he was there two days.
Giovanni 4:41 E più assai credettero a motivo della sua parola;	John 4:41 And a great number more of them came to have faith in him because of what he himself said.
Giovanni 4:42 e dicevano alla donna: Non è più a motivo di quel che tu ci hai detto, che crediamo; perché abbiamo udito da noi, e sappiamo che questi è veramente il Salvator del mondo.	John 4:42 And they said to the woman, Now we have faith, but not because of your story: we ourselves have given ear to his words, and we are certain that he is truly the Saviour of the world.
Giovanni 4:43 Passati que’ due giorni, egli partì di là per andare in Galilea;	John 4:43 And after the two days he went on from there into Galilee.
Giovanni 4:44 poiché Gesù stesso aveva attestato che un profeta non è onorato nella sua propria patria.	John 4:44 For Jesus himself said that a prophet has no honour in the country of his birth.
Giovanni 4:45 Quando dunque fu venuto in Galilea, fu accolto dai Galilei, perché avean vedute tutte le cose ch’egli avea fatte in Gerusalemme alla festa; poiché anch’essi erano andati alla festa.	John 4:45 So when he came into Galilee, the Galilaeans took him to their hearts because of the things which they had seen him do in Jerusalem at the feast--they themselves having been there at the feast.
Giovanni 4:46 Gesù dunque venne di nuovo a Cana di Galilea, dove avea cambiato l’acqua in vino. E v’era un certo ufficial reale, il cui figliuolo era infermo a Capernaum.	John 4:46 So he came to Cana in Galilee, where he had made the water wine. And there was a certain man of high position whose son was ill at Capernaum.
Giovanni 4:47 Come egli ebbe udito che Gesù era venuto dalla Giudea in Galilea, andò a lui e lo pregò che scendesse e guarisse il suo figliuolo, perché stava per morire.	John 4:47 When it came to his ears that Jesus had come from Judaea into Galilee, he went to him and made a request that he would come down to his son, who was near to death, and make him well.
Giovanni 4:48 Perciò Gesù gli disse: Se non vedete segni e miracoli, voi non crederete.	John 4:48 Then Jesus said to him, You will not have faith if you do not see signs and wonders.
Giovanni 4:49 L’ufficial reale gli disse: Signore, scendi prima che il mio bambino muoia.	John 4:49 The man said, Sir, come down before my boy is dead.
Giovanni 4:50 Gesù gli disse: Va’, il tuo figliuolo vive. Quell’uomo credette alla parola che Gesù gli avea detta, e se ne andò.	John 4:50 And Jesus said, Go in peace; your son is living. The man had faith in the word which Jesus said to him and went away.
Giovanni 4:51 E come già stava scendendo, i suoi servitori gli vennero incontro e gli dissero: Il tuo figliuolo vive.	John 4:51 And while he was going down, his servants came to him and said, Your boy is living.
Giovanni 4:52 Allora egli domandò loro a che ora avesse cominciato a star meglio; ed essi gli risposero: Ieri, all’ora settima, la febbre lo lasciò.	John 4:52 So he put a question to them as to the hour when he became better; and they said to him, The disease went from him yesterday at the seventh hour.
Giovanni 4:53 Così il padre conobbe che ciò era avvenuto nell’ora che Gesù gli avea detto: Il tuo figliuolo vive; e credette lui con tutta la sua casa.	John 4:53 It was clear then to the father that this was the very time at which Jesus said to him, Your son is living. And he had faith in Jesus, he and all his family.
Giovanni 4:54 Questo secondo miracolo fece di nuovo Gesù, tornando dalla Giudea in Galilea.	John 4:54 Now this is the second sign which Jesus did after he had come out of Judaea into Galilee.
