|
| Guai a quelli che fanno decreti iniqui e a quelli che redigono in iscritto sentenze ingiuste, | Cursed are those who make evil decisions, and the writers who make the records of their cruel acts: |
| per negare giustizia ai miseri, per spogliare del loro diritto i poveri del mio popolo, per far delle vedove la loro preda e degli orfani il loro bottino! | Who do wrong to the poor in their cause, and take away the right of the crushed among my people, so that they may have the property of widows, and get under their power those who have no father. |
| E che farete nel giorno che Dio vi visiterà, nel giorno che la ruina verrà di lontano? A chi fuggirete in cerca di soccorso? e dove lascerete quel ch’è la vostra gloria? | And what will you do in the day of punishment, and in the destruction which is coming from far? to whom will you go for help, and what will become of your glory? |
| Non rimarrà loro che curvarsi fra i prigionieri o cadere fra gli uccisi. E, con tutto ciò, l’ira sua non si calma, e la sua mano rimane distesa. | ... For all this his wrath is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still. |
| Guai all’Assiria, verga della mia ira! Il bastone che ha in mano, è lo strumento della mia indignazione. | Ho! Assyrian, the rod of my wrath, the instrument of my punishment! |
| Io l’ho mandato contro una nazione empia, gli ho dato, contro il popolo del mio cruccio, l’ordine di darsi al saccheggio, di far bottino, di calpestarlo come il fango delle strade. | I will send him against a nation of wrongdoers, and against the people of my wrath I will give him orders, to take their wealth in war, crushing them down like the dust in the streets. |
| Ma egli non la intende così; non così la pensa in cuor suo; egli ha in cuore di distruggere, di sterminare nazioni in gran numero. | But this is not what is in his mind, and this is not his design; but his purpose is destruction, and the cutting off of more and more nations. |
| Poiché dice: "I miei principi non son eglino tanti re? | For he says, Are not all my captains kings? |
| Non è egli avvenuto di Calno come di Carkemish? Di Hamath come d’Arpad? di Samaria come di Damasco? | Will not the fate of Calno be like that of Carchemish? is not Hamath as Arpad? is not Samaria as Damascus? |
| Come la mia mano è giunta a colpire i regni degl’idoli dove le immagini eran più numerose che a Gerusalemme e a Samaria, | As my hand has come on the kingdoms of the images, whose pictured images were more in number than those of Jerusalem and Samaria; |
| come ho fatto a Samaria e ai suoi idoli, non farò io così a Gerusalemme e alle sue statue?" | So, as I have done to Samaria and her images, I will do to Jerusalem and her images. |
| Ma quando il Signore avrà compiuta tutta l’opera sua sul monte di Sion e a Gerusalemme, io, dice l’Eterno, punirò il re d’Assiria per il frutto della superbia del cuor suo e dell’arroganza de’ suoi sguardi alteri. | For this cause it will be that, when the purpose of the Lord against Mount Zion and Jerusalem is complete, I will send punishment on the pride of the heart of the king of Assyria, and on the glory of his uplifted eyes. |
| Poich’egli dice: "Io l’ho fatto per la forza della mia mano, e per la mia sapienza, perché sono intelligente; ho rimosso i confini de’ popoli, ho predato i loro tesori; e, potente come sono, ho detronizzato dei re, | For he has said, By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my knowledge, for I am wise: and I have taken away the limits of the peoples' lands, and the stores of their wealth have become mine; and I have made towns low in the dust, sending destruction on those living in them; |
| la mia mano ha trovato, come un nido, le ricchezze dei popoli; e come uno raccoglie delle uova abbandonate, così ho io raccolta tutta la terra; e nessuno ha mosso l’ala o aperto il becco o mandato un grido". | And I have put my hands on the wealth of the peoples, as on the place where a bird has put her eggs; and as a man may take the eggs from which a bird has gone, so I have taken all the earth for myself: and not a wing was moved, and not a mouth gave out a sound. |
| La scure si gloria essa contro colui che la maneggia? la sega si magnifica essa contro colui che la mena? Come se la verga facesse muovere colui che l’alza, come se il bastone alzasse colui che non ne è di legno! | Will the axe say high-sounding words against him who is using it, or the blade be full of pride against him who is cutting with it? As if a rod had the power of shaking him who is using it, or as if a stick might take up him who is not wood. |
| Perciò il Signore, l’Eterno degli eserciti, manderà la consunzione tra i suoi più robusti; e sotto la sua gloria accenderà un fuoco, come il fuoco d’un incendio. | For this cause the Lord, the Lord of armies, will make his fat become wasted; and in his inner parts a fire will be lighted like a burning flame. |
| La luce d’Israele diventerà un fuoco, e il suo Santo una fiamma, che arderà e divorerà i suoi rovi ed i suoi pruni in un sol giorno. | And the light of Israel will be for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame: wasting and burning up his thorns in one day. |
| E la gloria della sua foresta e della sua ferace campagna egli la consumerà, anima e corpo; sarà come il deperimento d’un uomo che langue. | And he will put an end to the glory of his woods and of his planted fields, soul and body together; and it will be as when a man is wasted by disease. |
| Il resto degli alberi della sua foresta sarà così minimo che un bambino potrebbe farne il conto. | And the rest of the trees of his wood will be small in number, so that a child may put them down in writing. |
| In quel giorno, il residuo d’Israele e gli scampati della casa di Giacobbe cesseranno d’appoggiarsi su colui che li colpiva, e s’appoggeranno con sincerità sull’Eterno, sul Santo d’Israele. | And it will be in that day that the rest of Israel, and those of Jacob who have come safely through these troubles, will no longer go for help to him whose rod was on their back, but their faith will be in the Lord, the Holy One of Israel. |
| Un residuo, il residuo di Giacobbe, tornerà all’Iddio potente. | The rest, even the rest of Jacob, will come back to the Strong God. |
| Poiché, quand’anche il tuo popolo, o Israele, fosse come la rena del mare, un residuo soltanto ne tornerà; uno sterminio è decretato, che farà traboccare la giustizia. | For though your people, O Israel, are as the sand of the sea, only a small number will come back: for the destruction is fixed, overflowing in righteousness. |
| Poiché lo sterminio, che ha decretato il Signore, l’Eterno degli eserciti, lo effettuerà in mezzo a tutta la terra. | For the Lord, the Lord of armies, is about to make destruction complete in all the land. |
| Così dunque dice il Signore, l’Eterno degli eserciti: O popolo mio, che abiti in Sion, non temere l’Assiro, benché ti batta di verga e alzi su te il bastone, come fece l’Egitto! | For this cause the Lord, the Lord of armies, says, O my people living in Zion, have no fear of the Assyrian, even if his rod comes on your back, and his stick is lifted up as in Egypt. |
| Ancora un breve, brevissimo tempo, e la mia indignazione sarà finita, e l’ira mia si volgerà alla loro distruzione. | For in a very short time my passion will be over, and my wrath will be turned to their destruction. |
| L’Eterno degli eserciti leverà contro di lui la frustra, come quando colpì Madian, alla roccia d’Oreb; e come alzò il suo bastone sul mare, così l’alzerà ancora, come in Egitto. | And the Lord of armies will be shaking a whip against him, as when he overcame Midian at the rock of Oreb: and his rod will be lifted up against them as it was against the Egyptians. |
| E, in quel giorno, il suo carico ti cadrà dalle spalle, e il suo giogo di sul collo; il giogo sarò scosso dalla tua forza rigogliosa. | And in that day the weight which he put on your back will be taken away, and his yoke broken from off your neck. |
| L’Assiro marcia contro Aiath, attraversa Migron, depone i suoi bagagli a Micmash. | He has gone up from Pene-Rimmon, he has come to Aiath; he has gone past Migron, at Michmash he puts his forces in order. |
| Valicano il passo, passano la notte a Gheba, Rama trema, Ghibea di Saul è in fuga. | They have gone across the mountain; Geba will be our resting-place tonight, they say: Ramah is shaking with fear; Gibeah of Saul has gone in flight. |
| Grida forte a tutta voce, o figlia di Gallim! Tendi l’orecchio, o Laish! Povera Anathoth! | Give a loud cry, daughter of Gallim; let Laishah give ear; let Anathoth give answer to her. |
| Madmenah è in fuga precipitosa, gli abitanti di Ghebim cercano un rifugio. | Madmenah has gone; the men of Gebim are putting their goods in a safe place. |
| Oggi stesso sosterà a Nob, agitando il pugno contro il monte della figlia di Sion, contro la collina di Gerusalemme. | This very day he is stopping at Nob; he is shaking his hand against the mountain of the daughter of Zion, the hill of Jerusalem. |
| Ecco, il Signore, l’Eterno degli Eserciti, stronca i rami in modo tremendo; i più alti sono tagliati, i più superbi sono atterrati. | See, the Lord, the Lord of armies, is cutting off his branches with a great noise, and his strong ones are falling and his high ones are coming down. |
| Egli abbatte col ferro il folto della foresta, e il Libano cade sotto i colpi del Potente. | And he is cutting down the thick places of the wood with an axe, and Lebanon with its tall trees is coming down. |
