| Ora, depois destas coisas, no reinado de Artaxerxes, rei da Pérsia, Esdras, filho de Seraías, filho de Azarias, filho de Hilquias, | Now after these things, in the reign of Artaxerxes king of Persia, Ezra the son of Seraiah, the son of Azariah, the son of Hilkiah, |
| filho de Salum, filho de Zadoque, filho de Aitube, | the son of Shallum, the son of Zadok, the son of Ahitub, |
| filho de Amarias, filho de Azarias, filho de Meraiote, | the son of Amariah, the son of Azariah, the son of Meraioth, |
| filho de Zeraías, filho de Uzi, filho de Buqui, | the son of Zerahiah, the son of Uzzi, the son of Bukki, |
| filho de Abisua, filho de Finéias, filho de Eleazar, filho de Arão, o sumo sacerdote - | the son of Abishua, the son of Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the chief priest; |
| este Esdras subiu de Babilônia. E ele era escriba hábil na lei de Moisés, que o Senhor Deus de Israel tinha dado; e segundo a mão de Senhor seu Deus, que estava sobre ele, o rei lhe deu tudo quanto lhe pedira. | this Ezra went up from Babylon: and he was a ready scribe in the law of Moses, which Jehovah, the God of Israel, had given; and the king granted him all his request, according to the hand of Jehovah his God upon him. |
| Também subiram a Jerusalém alguns dos filhos de Israel, dos sacerdotes, dos levitas, dos cantores, dos porteiros e dos netinins, no sétimo ano do rei Artaxerxes. | And there went up some of the children of Israel, and of the priests, and the Levites, and the singers, and the porters, and the Nethinim, unto Jerusalem, in the seventh year of Artaxerxes the king. |
| No quinto mês Esdras chegou a Jerusalém, no sétimo ano deste rei. | And he came to Jerusalem in the fifth month, which was in the seventh year of the king. |
| Pois no primeiro dia do primeiro mês ele partiu de Babilônia e no primeiro dia do quinto mês chegou a Jerusalém, graças à mão benéfica do seu Deus sobre ele. | For upon the first [day] of the first month began he to go up from Babylon; and on the first [day] of the fifth month came he to Jerusalem, according to the good hand of his God upon him. |
| Porque Esdras tinha preparado o seu coração para buscar e cumprir a lei do Senhor, e para ensinar em Israel os seus estatutos e as suas ordenanças. | For Ezra had set his heart to seek the law of Jehovah, and to do it, and to teach in Israel statutes and ordinances. |
| Esta é, pois, a cópia da carta que o rei Artaxerxes deu a Esdras, o sacerdote, o escriba instruído nas palavras dos mandamentos do Senhor e dos seus estatutos para Israel: | Now this is the copy of the letter that the king Artaxerxes gave unto Ezra the priest, the scribe, even the scribe of the words of the commandments of Jehovah, and of his statutes to Israel: |
| Artaxerxes, rei dos reis, ao sacerdote Esdras, escriba da lei do Deus do céu: Saudações. | Artaxerxes, king of kings, unto Ezra the priest, the scribe of the law of the God of heaven, perfect and so forth. |
| Por mim se decreta que no meu reino todo aquele do povo de Israel, e dos seus sacerdotes e levitas, que quiser ir a Jerusalém, vá contigo. | I make a decree, that all they of the people of Israel, and their priests and the Levites, in my realm, that are minded of their own free will to go to Jerusalem, go with thee. |
| Porquanto és enviado da parte do rei e dos seus sete conselheiros para indagares a respeito de Judá e de Jerusalém, conforme a lei do teu Deus, a qual está na tua mão; | Forasmuch as thou art sent of the king and his seven counsellors, to inquire concerning Judah and Jerusalem, according to the law of thy God which is in thy hand, |
| e para levares a prata e o ouro que o rei e os seus conselheiros voluntariamente deram ao Deus de Israel cuja habitação está em Jerusalém, | and to carry the silver and gold, which the king and his counsellors have freely offered unto the God of Israel, whose habitation is in Jerusalem, |
| com toda a prata e o ouro que achares em toda a província de Babilônia, e com as ofertas voluntárias do povo e dos sacerdotes, que voluntariamente as oferecerem para a casa do seu Deus, que está em Jerusalem; | and all the silver and gold that thou shalt find in all the province of Babylon, with the freewill-offering of the people, and of the priests, offering willingly for the house of their God which is in Jerusalem; |
| portanto com toda a diligência comprarás com este dinheiro novilhos, carneiros, e cordeiros, com as suas ofertas de cereais e as suas ofertas de libações, e os oferecerás sobre o altar da casa do vosso Deus, que está em Jerusalém. | therefore thou shalt with all diligence buy with this money bullocks, rams, lambs, with their meal-offerings and their drink-offerings, and shalt offer them upon the altar of the house of your God which is in Jerusalem. |
| Também o que a ti e a teus irmãos parecer bem fazerdes do resto da prata e do ouro, o fareis conforme a vontade do vosso Deus. | And whatsoever shall seem good to thee and to thy brethren to do with the rest of the silver and the gold, that do ye after the will of your God. |
| Os vasos que te foram dados para o serviço da casa do teu Deus, entrega-os todos perante ele, o Deus de Jerusalém. | And the vessels that are given thee for the service of the house of thy God, deliver thou before the God of Jerusalem. |
| E tudo o mais que for necessário para a casa do teu Deus, e que te convenha dar, o darás da casa dos tesouros do rei. | And whatsoever more shall be needful for the house of thy God, which thou shalt have occasion to bestow, bestow it out of the king's treasure-house. |
| E eu, o rei Artaxerxes, decreto a todos os tesoureiros que estão na província dalém do Rio, que tudo quanto vos exigir o sacerdote Esdras, escriba da lei do Deus do céu, prontamente se lhe conceda, | And I, even I Artaxerxes the king, do make a decree to all the treasurers that are beyond the River, that whatsoever Ezra the priest, the scribe of the law of the God of heaven, shall require of you, it be done with all diligence, |
| até cem talentos de prata cem coros de trigo, cem batos de vinho, cem batos de azeite, e sal à vontade. | unto a hundred talents of silver, and to a hundred measures of wheat, and to a hundred baths of wine, and to a hundred baths of oil, and salt without prescribing how much. |
| Tudo quanto for ordenado pelo Deus do céu, isso precisamente se faça para a casa do Deus do céu; pois, por que haveria ira sobre o reino do rei e de seus filhos? | Whatsoever is commanded by the God of heaven, let it be done exactly for the house of the God of heaven; for why should there be wrath against the realm of the king and his sons? |
| Também vos notificamos acerca de todos os sacerdotes e levitas, cantores, porteiros, netinins, e outros servos desta casa de Deus, que não será lícito exigir-lhes nem tributo, nem imposto, nem pedágio. | Also we certify you, that touching any of the priests and Levites, the singers, porters, Nethinim, or servants of this house of God, it shall not be lawful to impose tribute, custom, or toll, upon them. |
| E tu, Esdras, conforme a sabedoria do teu Deus, que possuis, constitui magistrados e juízes, que julguem todo o povo que está na província dalém do Rio, isto é, todos os que conhecem as leis do teu Deus; e ensina-as ao que não as conhece. | And thou, Ezra, after the wisdom of thy God that is in thy hand, appoint magistrates and judges, who may judge all the people that are beyond the River, all such as know the laws of thy God; and teach ye him that knoweth them not. |
| E todo aquele que não observar a lei do teu Deus e a lei do rei, com zelo se lhe execute a justiça: quer seja morte, quer desterro, quer confiscação de bens, quer prisão. | And whosoever will not do the law of thy God, and the law of the king, let judgment be executed upon him with all diligence, whether it be unto death, or to banishment, or to confiscation of goods, or to imprisonment. |
| Bendito seja o Senhor Deus de nossos pais, que pôs no coração do rei este desejo de ornar a casa do Senhor, que está em Jerusalém; | Blessed be Jehovah, the God of our fathers, who hath put such a thing as this in the king's heart, to beautify the house of Jehovah which is in Jerusalem; |
| e que estendeu sobre mim a sua benevolência perante o rei e os seus conselheiros e perante todos os príncipes poderosos do rei. Assim encorajado pela mão do Senhor, meu Deus, que estava sobre mim, ajuntei dentre Israel alguns dos homens principais para subirem comigo. | and hath extended lovingkindness unto me before the king, and his counsellors, and before all the king's mighty princes. And I was strengthened according to the hand of Jehovah my God upon me, and I gathered together out of Israel chief men to go up with me. |
