|
| Dai graças ao Senhor, porque ele é bom; porque a sua benignidade dura para sempre; | O give praise to the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy is unchanging for ever. |
| digam-no os remidos do Senhor, os quais ele remiu da mão do inimigo, | Let those whose cause the Lord has taken up say so, his people whom he has taken out of the hands of their haters; |
| e os que congregou dentre as terras, do Oriente e do Ocidente, do Norte e do Sul. | Making them come together out of all the lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south. |
| Andaram desgarrados pelo deserto, por caminho ermo; não acharam cidade em que habitassem. | They were wandering in the waste places; they saw no way to a resting-place. |
| Andavam famintos e sedentos; desfalecia-lhes a alma. | Their souls became feeble for need of food and drink. |
| E clamaram ao Senhor na sua tribulação, e ele os livrou das suas angústias; | Then they sent up their cry to the Lord in their sorrow, and he gave them salvation out of all their troubles; |
| conduziu-os por um caminho direito, para irem a uma cidade em que habitassem. | Guiding them in the right way, so that they might come into the town of their resting-place. |
| Dêem graças ao Senhor pela sua benignidade, e pelas suas maravilhas para com os filhos dos homens! | Let men give praise to the Lord for his mercy, and for the wonders which he does for the children of men! |
| Pois ele satisfaz a alma sedenta, e enche de bens a alma faminta. | He gives its desire to the unresting soul, so that it is full of good things. |
| Quanto aos que se assentavam nas trevas e sombra da morte, presos em aflição e em ferros, | Those who were in the dark, in the black night, in chains of sorrow and iron; |
| por se haverem rebelado contra as palavras de Deus, e desprezado o conselho do Altíssimo, | Because they went against the words of God, and gave no thought to the laws of the Most High: |
| eis que lhes abateu o coração com trabalho; tropeçaram, e não houve quem os ajudasse. | So that he made their hearts weighted down with grief; they were falling, and had no helper. |
| Então clamaram ao Senhor na sua tribulação, e ele os livrou das suas angústias. | Then they sent up their cry to the Lord in their sorrow, and he gave them salvation out of all their troubles. |
| Tirou-os das trevas e da sombra da morte, e quebrou-lhes as prisões. | He took them out of the dark and the black night, and all their chains were broken. |
| Dêem graças ao Senhor pela sua benignidade, e pelas suas maravilhas para com os filhos dos homens! | Let men give praise to the Lord for his mercy, and for the wonders which he does for the children of men! |
| Pois quebrou as portas de bronze e despedaçou as trancas de ferro. | The doors of brass are broken by his arm, and the bands of iron are cut in two. |
| Os insensatos, por causa do seu caminho de transgressão, e por causa das suas iniqüidades, são afligidos. | Foolish men, because of their sins, and because of their wrongdoing, are troubled; |
| A sua alma aborreceu toda sorte de comida, e eles chegaram até as portas da morte. | They are disgusted by all food, and they come near to the doors of death. |

| Enviou a sua palavra, e os sarou, e os livrou da destruição. | He sent his word and made them well, and kept them safe from the underworld. |

| Ofereçam sacrifícios de louvor, e relatem as suas obras com regozijo! | Let them make offerings of praise, giving news of his works with cries of joy. |
| Os que descem ao mar em navios, os que fazem comércio nas grandes águas, | Those who go down to the sea in ships, who do business in the great waters; |
| esses vêem as obras do Senhor, e as suas maravilhas no abismo. | They see the works of the Lord, and his wonders in the deep. |
| Pois ele manda, e faz levantar o vento tempestuoso, que eleva as ondas do mar. | For at his word comes up the storm-wind, lifting high the waves. |
| Eles sobem ao céu, descem ao abismo; esvaece-lhes a alma de aflição. | The sailors go up to heaven, and down into the deep; their souls are wasted because of their trouble. |
| Balançam e cambaleiam como ébrios, e perdem todo o tino. | They are turned here and there, rolling like a man who is full of wine; and all their wisdom comes to nothing. |
| Então clamam ao Senhor na sua tribulação, e ele os livra das suas angústias. | Then they send up their cry to the Lord in their sorrow, and he gives them salvation out of all their troubles. |
| Faz cessar a tormenta, de modo que se acalmam as ondas. | He makes the storm into a calm, so that the waves are at peace. |
| Então eles se alegram com a bonança; e assim ele os leva ao porto desejado. | Then they are glad, because the sea is quiet, and he takes them to the harbour of their desire. |
| Dêem graças ao Senhor pela sua benignidade, e pelas suas maravilhas para com os filhos dos homens! | Let men give praise to the Lord for his mercy, and for the wonders which he does for the children of men! |
| Exaltem-no na congregação do povo, e louvem-no na assembléia dos anciãos! | Let them give glory to him in the meeting of the people, and praise among the chiefs. |
| Ele converte rios em deserto, e nascentes em terra sedenta; | He makes rivers into waste places, and springs of water into a dry land; |
| a terra frutífera em deserto salgado, por causa da maldade dos que nela habitam. | He makes a fertile country into a salt waste, because of the sins of those who are living there. |
| Converte o deserto em lagos, e a terra seca em nascentes. | He makes a waste land into a place of water, and a dry land into water-springs. |
| E faz habitar ali os famintos, que edificam uma cidade para sua habitação; | And there he gives the poor a resting-place, so that they may make themselves a town; |
| semeiam campos e plantam vinhas, que produzem frutos abundantes. | And put seed in the fields and make vine-gardens, to give them fruit. |
| Ele os abençoa, de modo que se multiplicam sobremaneira; e não permite que o seu gado diminua. | He gives them his blessing so that they are increased greatly, and their cattle do not become less. |
| Quando eles decrescem e são abatidos pela opressão, aflição e tristeza, | And when they are made low, and crushed by trouble and sorrow, |
| ele lança o desprezo sobre os príncipes, e os faz desgarrados pelo deserto, onde não há caminho. | He puts an end to the pride of kings, and sends them wandering in the waste lands where there is no way. |
| Mas levanta da opressão o necessitado para um alto retiro, e dá-lhe famílias como um rebanho. | But he puts the poor man on high from his troubles, and gives him families like a flock. |
| Os retos o vêem e se regozijam, e toda a iniqüidade tapa a sua própria boca. | The upright see it and are glad: the mouth of the sinner is stopped. |
| Quem é sábio observe estas coisas, e considere atentamente as benignidades do Senhor. | Let the wise give thought to these things, and see the mercies of the Lord. |
