| Знаешь ли ты время, когда рождаются дикие козы на скалах, и замечал ли роды ланей? | Knowest thou the time when the wild goats of the rock bring forth? [Or] canst thou mark when the hinds do calve? |
| можешь ли расчислить месяцы беременности их? и знаешь ли время родов их? | Canst thou number the months that they fulfil? Or knowest thou the time when they bring forth? |
| Они изгибаются, рождая детей своих, выбрасывая свои ноши; | They bow themselves, they bring forth their young, They cast out their pains. |
| дети их приходят в силу, растут на поле, уходят и не возвращаются к ним. | Their young ones become strong, they grow up in the open field; They go forth, and return not again. |
| Кто пустил дикого осла на свободу, и кто разрешил узы онагру, | Who hath sent out the wild ass free? Or who hath loosed the bonds of the swift ass, |
| которому степь Я назначил домом и солончаки--жилищем? | Whose home I have made the wilderness, And the salt land his dwelling-place? |
| Он посмевается городскому многолюдству и не слышит криков погонщика, | He scorneth the tumult of the city, Neither heareth he the shoutings of the driver. |
| по горам ищет себе пищи и гоняется за всякою зеленью. | The range of the mountains is his pasture, And he searcheth after every green thing. |
| Захочет ли единорог служить тебе и переночует ли у яслей твоих? | Will the wild-ox be content to serve thee? Or will he abide by thy crib? |
| Можешь ли веревкою привязать единорога к борозде, и станет ли он боронить за тобою поле? | Canst thou bind the wild-ox with his band in the furrow? Or will he harrow the valleys after thee? |
| Понадеешься ли на него, потому что у него сила велика, и предоставишь ли ему работу твою? | Wilt thou trust him, because his strength is great? Or wilt thou leave to him thy labor? |
| Поверишь ли ему, что он семена твои возвратит и сложит на гумно твое? | Wilt thou confide in him, that he will bring home thy seed, And gather [the grain] of thy threshing-floor? |
| Ты ли дал красивые крылья павлину и перья и пух страусу? | The wings of the ostrich wave proudly; [But] are they the pinions and plumage of love? |
| Он оставляет яйца свои на земле, и на песке согревает их, | For she leaveth her eggs on the earth, And warmeth them in the dust, |
| и забывает, что нога может раздавить их и полевой зверь может растоптать их; | And forgetteth that the foot may crush them, Or that the wild beast may trample them. |
| он жесток к детям своим, как бы не своим, и не опасается, что труд его будет напрасен; | She dealeth hardly with her young ones, as if they were not hers: Though her labor be in vain, [she is] without fear; |
| потому что Бог не дал ему мудрости и не уделил ему смысла; | Because God hath deprived her of wisdom, Neither hath he imparted to her understanding. |
| а когда поднимется на высоту, посмевается коню и всаднику его. | What time she lifteth up herself on high, She scorneth the horse and his rider. |
| Ты ли дал коню силу и облек шею его гривою? | Hast thou given the horse [his] might? Hast thou clothed his neck with the quivering mane? |
| Можешь ли ты испугать его, как саранчу? Храпение ноздрей его--ужас; | Hast thou made him to leap as a locust? The glory of his snorting is terrible. |
| роет ногою землю и восхищается силою; идет навстречу оружию; | He paweth in the valley, and rejoiceth in his strength: He goeth out to meet the armed men. |
| он смеется над опасностью и не робеет и не отворачивается от меча; | He mocketh at fear, and is not dismayed; Neither turneth he back from the sword. |
| колчан звучит над ним, сверкает копье и дротик; | The quiver rattleth against him, The flashing spear and the javelin. |
| в порыве и ярости он глотает землю и не может стоять при звуке трубы; | He swalloweth the ground with fierceness and rage; Neither believeth he that it is the voice of the trumpet. |
| при трубном звуке он издает голос: гу! гу! и издалека чует битву, громкие голоса вождей и крик. | As oft as the trumpet [soundeth] he saith, Aha! And he smelleth the battle afar off, The thunder of the captains, and the shouting. |
| Твоею ли мудростью летает ястреб и направляет крылья свои на полдень? | Is it by thy wisdom that the hawk soareth, (And) stretcheth her wings toward the south? |
| По твоему ли слову возносится орел и устрояет на высоте гнездо свое? | Is it at thy command that the eagle mounteth up, And maketh her nest on high? |
| Он живет на скале и ночует на зубце утесов и на местах неприступных; | On the cliff she dwelleth, and maketh her home, Upon the point of the cliff, and the stronghold. |
| оттуда высматривает себе пищу: глаза его смотрят далеко; | From thence she spieth out the prey; Her eyes behold it afar off. |
| птенцы его пьют кровь, и где труп, там и он. | Her young ones also suck up blood: And where the slain are, there is she. |
